Title: Police Fitness
Post by: Graem Carcer on September 01, 2008, 10:15:59 pm
Well guys,

I told y'all when I was gonna have my interview for the volunteer police which I passed, and now it's time for my fitness test, tomorrow!  :o

Let's see if going to the gym 2 nights a week since March has counter-balanced years of being sat on my arse playing UO  :D

Wish me luck!

Fitness tests, heh.

In Strathclyde they never bothered us specials with that so long as our BMI was acceptable.  I had heard they did test our fitness so I was kind of worried when I turned up having spent a frantic 3 days training.

I believe the fitness test is now (among other things) a 1.5 mile run in 12 minutes.  My cousin is due to attend it in a few days so I'll get more info then.

Even our interview was less than I expected.  A home visit and that was it.

I'm toying with applying for the regulars but I still lack a drivers licence.  I might apply for the MoD police which doesnt require a drivers licence.  On the other hand the fitness is possibly higher, I think you need to be able to pass the Armed Force Officers fitenss which is a but more stringent (1.5 miles in 10.5 minutes).  Still undecided.  The one thing I'm dubious about a police carer is the mounds of paperwork (I work for the police as a civvie full time as well and deal with a lot of their admin) and the fact it 'changes' people.

Good luck matey!

I think that so long as you can walk to the nearest takeaway in less than 10 minutes they pass you! ;)

Nout like that :P It's 5.4 on the bleep test; admittedly quite easy, but you know how us gamers can get ;)

Whahahah! You'll get 5.4 no problem fo'sho. You need to have seriously not moved for the last five years to not get 5.4! And if you've been hitting up the gym twice a week (assuming cardio as well as weights), ya should be fine :)

The world only has (or had) one policeman worth aspiring to.....

Group of 6; the other 5 looked much MUCH fitter than me and I thought "Bum, I'm gonna look a right pillock if I die on the bleep test infront of these five" (I had to wear the bib unstrapped; small sizes, I tell you!

Anyway, much to my surprise someone failed; no names or info given other than:

IT WASN'T ME - I PASSED!!  ;D

Thanks for the congratulations guys, all I have to do now is get my eyes checked out and be checked out by a doctor, and I'll be given my training dates and invitation to join the Special Constabulary!

As for you Mr. Jones, I think my first move may well be to transfer to Bedfordshire, so I can keep an eye on you!  >:(

Good going man!
Fitness can be very deceiving; people can look in good shape but have sod all to back it up.

Ah well. One step closer to Special Constable! And getting those kinky kinky handcuffs.. meow..  8)

I read a post on a Specials forum I posted on that the new non-link cuffs they have are purposefully slightly uncomfortable, and therefor unsuitable for uniformed bedroom roleplay! (No that's not why they're made uncomfortable!  ;D)

...Sorry Rach ;)

Then again, I imagine people wishing to be restrained, ahem, 'during'  ;D, must surely wish to expect a degree of discomfort?  ;)

That said, there's always the baton...  :P

But I doubt the CS spray has much use in the bedroom  :-\

Congrats!

We never had a fitness test in strathclyde but imho we should have.  During our first day of Officer Safety Training (i.e hitting people and avoiding being hit) we had a run outside and people were seriously near collapse during one lap of the complex (about 0.5 miles, the fitness 1.5 miles is 3 laps of the complex).  I was fine thankfully and am much fitter now than I was then.  It's always easier doing a fitness test than training.

The non-link cuffs are indeed pretty impractical for 'recreational' use.  If you decide to 'dabble', double-check you know where the key is beforehand.  :P

Re CS spray, be prepared to have it tested on yourself in controlled circumstances during training.  I made the mistake of  thinking "How bad can this be?" and tried to take a deep breath of the stuff...  not nice.

Or you can always get those nice fluffy handcuffs from Ann Summers :O
