Title: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor - COMPLETE Post by: Gregor Eason on May 06, 2005, 03:35:59 pm Militia Duties: The Training Instructor
Greetings Covian guardsmen. This Militia Duty that is presented before ye is somewhat different to the other Duities on hand. It is an individual Duty that may only be attempted by a Watchman or above; that means nay Recruits! The Duty requires that a single guardsman redoubles the training effort of the Cove Militia. This Duty could take from a week to a month to complete, depending on the guardsman's available time. Tasks * Lead and Organise One Recruit Cadre (Procedure will be explained) - COMPLETED * Lead and Organise Three Militia Training Sessions - COMPLETED * Lead and Organise Two Hunts - COMPLETED * Create, Lead, and Organise a specialist training scenario (e.g., Squad Fighting in Cove, must be approved by Command first). - COMPLETED Conditions * Only ONE guardsman may attempt this Duty. * Duty must be completed within one month. * Training sessions must be at least thirty minutes long, and cover combat, orders, and fitness. * Hunts must be at least forty minutes long, and conducted in challenging domains (i.e. Ilshenar, Dungeons). * All events must involve at least FOUR participants. * Separate reports for the events must be posted by the guardsman on THIS thread. If ye're a Watchman or Junior this shall almost guarantee promotion, as it includes many of the tasks and duties that ye must complete. The first guardsman to reply to this Duty, has the job. Militia Administration Title: Training report: May 8th at 18:00 GMT Post by: Calico on May 09, 2005, 05:15:51 am Training session [/size]Goals: The primary goal was to make sure weapons and armor are being well cared for and to ensure that gear is alwayes battle ready. Physical fitness, and group healing practice were also drilled for a well rounded session. Guardsmen in attendance: - Gregor Eason, Commander - Greif Dryfh Gry, Senior Guardsman - Gimbly, Junior Grenadier - Ryan Greystone, Junior Grenadier - John Dell, Junior Guardsman - Drath Mithar, Junior Guardsman - Gor Blackwell, Junior Guardsman - Kal Shadowhand, Watchman - Hrothgar, Guardsman Recruit - Charon Muriele, Recruit - Michael Wiseman, Recruit - Mikael, Squire Results: It was discovered that a majority of the guardsmen's armor wasn't in proper fighting condition. Most of their gear was at very least in need of a good polish, and in most cases badly dented and in need of a smiths attention. There were a few notable exceptions to this but properly tended armor and weapons should be the norm, not the exception. Reaction time over all to orders was slugish at first, but sharpend up as drilling continued. Healing practice, was above expectations. The only time some one got knock to the dirt was when Eason smacked that person with an illegal mortal blow. Reaction time over all was very sharp, and I belive they handled the frequenly swiching targets well. (http://img120.echo.cx/img120/9504/trainingkate15af.jpg) If the list of names is slightly... or very wrong just let me know, that is all off the top of my head. Some how reporting slipped my mind as I was readying for this. *signed neatly* Calico Kate Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Calico on May 12, 2005, 02:20:51 am Guild Hunt: Deceit [/b]Goals: *Giving the guardsmen a taste of cold weather combat. *Practicing group coordination efforts. *Earning a little extra gold. Guardsmen in attendance: Gimbly, Junior Grenadier Ryan Greystone, Junior Grenadier John Dell, Junior Guardsman Delcarakdur, Watchman Kas Valentine, Watchman Kal Shadowhand, Watchman Fabien, Recruit Griffith, Recruit Mikael, Squire Since Watchman Valentine was along on the hunt we were saved a long frosty boat ride to the Ice Island. Bitterly cold air greeted the group on the other side of the moongate. The guardsmen were suddenly very grateful for the reminder to bring warm cloaks along. While the halls of Deceit were still to cold for comfort, and reeked of death, at least the hunters found themselves out of the wind. The first few halls and passages were relatively empty. Left over candle stubs and tarnished braziers left over from arcane rituals littered the rooms, as well as gore from what looked to have at one point been a correction chamber. At first the monsters in our paths were few, and puny. Down several flights of stairs we encountered swarms of lesser undead. We found swamp filled pits so foul that though who ventured to close found themselves feeling ill, as well as bizarre kinds of funguses and old bone piles. (http://img95.echo.cx/img95/2993/report7pic17uj.gif) There were noises and whispers in the dark lower levels that no one could quite explain. (http://img95.echo.cx/img95/6048/report7pic28ba.jpg) There was a bit of confusion about exactly who was leading the Covian hunt and at times the guardsmen simply wandered off in clumps in two or even three different directions. After a few stern words from the hunt leader things seemed to organize some what. And not a minuet to soon, for they found themselves in a room full of liches. Once we'd given the liches merry hell and then fought our way back out through the upper halls. I was still not fully confident that my orders would be heeded in a rougher situation and decided it would be better to avoid some of the more densely haunted parts of Deceit's halls. Since we found ourselves so close to the Shrine of Honesty I thought it would be a good idea to take the time to visit it. I saw to it that every one disarmed before entering the shrines niche in the frozen mountains, and explained in brief what Honesty was according to the Virtue teachings. Despite my pointing out that actually approaching the shrine was not mandatory and should only be done by one with a heart open to the Virtue and a manta on their lips... all of the guardsmen crowded into the shrine as one at the mention that braziers were kept burning with in and that it might be slightly less cold with in the walls of Honesty. (http://img95.echo.cx/img95/425/report7pic39vz.gif) Next time I think a horde of pissed off Templars would be most welcome to teach them a bit more respect. Back at the barracks the party began to divvy up the spoils. The haul of gold was respectable considering the amount of time spent in the haunted place. Just as the guardsmen were readying to divide the spoils sir Hugo sauntered by, claiming the lions share of the booty for the church of Cove. I was tempted to give it all to him in light of the guards behavior at the shrine. *signed neatly* Calico Kate Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Gregor Eason on May 12, 2005, 07:27:15 am Excellent report, Watchman Kate. I hope those guardsmen whose performance was unsatisfactory in this hunt shall be disciplined well in this weekend's forthcoming training.

After a few basic commands were drilled, and some warm up running the bulk of the training was spent doing skirmishing in two man teams. Guardsmen in attendance: - Ryan Greystone, Jr. Grenadier - Valiro, Jr Guardsman - Feraz, Jr Guardsman - John Dell, Junior Guardsman - Zell Dencht, Recruit - Lance Sanders, Recruit - Cori'Ari Ta, Recruit - Charon Muriele, Recruit Results: The guardsmen adapted very well to the two man skirmish teams that were practiced. Healing went very well, and after the first round and a few pointers their tactics were vastly improved. This exercise is supposed to improve group awareness in a hectic situation as well as showing guards that it is possible to dominate more than one opponent when proper cross healing and timed mana dumps are utilized. Mission accomplished. *signed neatly* Calico Kate Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Gregor Eason on May 20, 2005, 10:52:07 pm Very good, Watchman Kate.
Please include at least one painting, even if only a minor report. Commander Eason, Cove Militia & Baronship Council Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Calico on May 23, 2005, 04:51:25 am Training session [/b]5.22.05 Goals: The primary goal was to improve skirmishing tactics when in two diffrent partys. After a few basic commands were drilled, and some warm up running, and push-ups, the bulk of the training was spent doing skirmishing in two man teams once more. Unfortunatly not enougth guardsmen showed up to give us the numbers needed for the planed drill. Guardsmen in attendance: - Gregor Eason, Comander - Valiro, Jr Guardsman - Kas Valentine, Watchman - Kal ShadowHand, Watchman - Acheron, Recruit - Moon, Recruit Results: Training progressed with mixed results. We basicaly had a re-view of the previous week. The teams seemed to be less on the ball and having a harder time staying with their partners. Focused attacks were better than before however. Hopefuly at least eight men will show at next weeks training, it was a bit hectic trying to watch for mistaks when I had to join in to keep teams even. Ye have completed one part of the Militia Duty, Watchman Kate. Good show. Keep it up! Commander Eason, Cove Militia & Baronship Council Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Calico on May 28, 2005, 02:16:30 am Guild Hunt: Humility Graveyard 5.27.05 Goals: *Slaughtering undead to keep the Humility Shrine clean *Practicing group coordination efforts *Breaking in some new recruits *Earning a little extra gold Guardsmen in attendance: Ryan Greystone, Junior Grenadier Kal Shadowhand, Watchman Kelino, Recruit Senaria Deveiant, Recruit Moon, Recruit Tia, Recruit Marie Le Blanc, Recruit Results: Things started out a bit shaky; only recruits Deveiant and Kelino showed up initially. I had decided to lead the recruits on a light assault of the fringed of the undead encampment. While a total purge might not be possible it could still be a good opportunity to test them and see what there was to work with. I found the two recruits to be in serious need of re-training. While a very capable wytch, Recruit Deveiant did not seem to understand battle tactics very well, and Recruit Kelino needs to be outfitted with much better gear, and lectured on the importance of carrying bandages. After our initial assault was a dismal failure re-enforcements were called for. Grenadier Greystone brought Watchman Shadowhand, Recruit Moon, Recruit Tia and Recruit Le Blanc. Re-grouped and with a few more experienced guardsmen to help keep the recruits in line things went much better. (http://img269.echo.cx/img269/6365/76nn.png) Recruit Le Blanc seemed to be very on the ball as far as healing and a definite power hitter as always, but her aim was a bit off at times. A scuffle broke out between her and Recruit Kelino -who was more than a little dazed- at an inopportune time. Recruit Moon and Recruit Kelino seemed to keep up fairly well, only occasionally darted away from the group, and were always quick to re-form on command. In the midst of the purge we lost track of Tia for a time... (http://img269.echo.cx/img269/1601/63qb.png) ...and after some search managed to bring her back with the hunting party. As the purge continued the groups coordination efforts, and responses to the undead's threats only improved. When we had finally beaten them back to their graves I ordered a fall back to the shelter of the hills, and from there a march back to the Humility Shrine. (http://img269.echo.cx/img269/8383/94gc.png) In all I believe the hunt was a success, the guards were in very high spirits on the trip back home. (http://img269.echo.cx/img269/9595/86am.png) One thing I would recommend would be that Watchman Valentine perhaps be assigned to give Recruits Tia and Deveiant a few lessons in being an effective battle mage. I believe Deveiant is used to fighting with a powerful pet at her side, and the tactics that the guardsmen use are painfully different. Tia could use a few pointers as well. Never really appreciated Watchman Valentine's skills fully till I was stuck with some green magelets... if we get the Recruits worked up we'd have a powerful trio backing the main fighting block. *signed neatly* Calico Kate Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Gregor Eason on May 28, 2005, 12:46:37 pm Excellent report, Watchman Kate.
I always like to understand the strengths and weaknesses of Covian guardsmen, and ye have illustrated them well. Indeed, I concur with the idea of having Watchman Valentine mentor the younger spellcasters. T'would be grand to have a well trained group of mages in the Covian Guards. Recruits in Attendance: Moon Derek Battail Senaria Deviant Becca V. Radunkel Arch Stanton Cecilia Lea Wind Results: The recruits were informed of and drilled on the basic orders, told what sort of gear they should keep ready at all times, as well as lectured on armor and weapon matmence. We went on a brisk patrol of the Covan Shire as well as the road to Altmer out post. There were a few light skirmishes with bandits, and giant spyders along the road. At the Altmer outpost we discovered that a pair of crazed celts seemed to have taken up residence. They were promptly driven off and warned to not return. The culmination of the evening, the six recruits being sworn in before the baron. It is imperative our Recruits get off to a good start. Commander Eason, Covian Guards & Baronship Council Title: Re: Militia Duties: The Training Instructor Post by: Calico on June 04, 2005, 02:17:50 am Special Training: Bunnie Bashing 6.3.05 Goals: After much deliberation I decided that there are some lessons that simply can not be learned in the the training ring. Speed is one of them. Your opponent can only run so far in the ring, and it's hard to get the speed of pursuing a criminal or enemy when you know it's just another guardsman your sparing. Not only do crazed bunnies require hunters to be fleet of foot. When hunting bunnie a guard also has to be able to try and take out a little fuzzy thing with streaking through the ranks, without cutting off the leg of the man next to them. Guardsmen in attendance: Arc, Corporal Hrothgar, Regular Guardsman Ryan Greystone, Grenaider Grief Dryfh Gry, Regular Guardsman Valiro Gryphonclaw, Junior Guardsman Kal Shadowhand, Watchman Kas Valentine, Watchman Anari, Recruit Drachir, Recruit Moon, Recruit Nick, Recruit Senaria Deveiant, Recruit Arch Stanton, Recruit Results: While super bunnies are known to live in the fields south of Skara Brae we were at first unsure of how to get the bunnies out of their holes. Many different tactics were used... (http://img211.echo.cx/img211/1936/bunnywaking4eh.png) ..and in the end good old fashion stomping seemed to be the most workable method. It did look a bit silly, but the results were worth it. Some times three and four at a time the bunnies came running out of their holes. At first blindly attacking who ever was closes before bolting for open ground. The first wave was almost a disaster, one bunnie managed to get far enough away that it could burrow back into the ground. After that the guardsmen re-doubled their efforts. Fast and furious the blows came. Even the crazed super bunnies could not last for long against the onslaught. For a time it seemed as if the hordes of bunnie might win, the guards were tiring with their efforts and mistakes were made, and frustration ran high. (http://img211.echo.cx/img211/4016/bunnyswinning8lq.png) Despite mishap, and many many tiny tooth marks eventual the guardsmen won out. Skara's garden patch is now free of crazed bunnies -they will be eternally grateful to Cove I'm sure- and the guardsmen have some solid practice thinking on their feet. I believe the practice was vastly successful. *signed neatly* Calico Kate Because everyone likes bunnies...
