Title: Stealthing
Post by: Faden on January 27, 2009, 09:48:14 pm
An interesting topic came up tonight:

How to roleplay stealth and the correct line of sight.

I personally believe if you are against a tree or wall you should be able to stealth however if you are south against a north wall (clearly in view) can you stealth. In reality the world wouldn't be 2d so looking at a north facing wall would be no difference from a south (in game your hidden).

I will go with whatever most people feel is acceptable roleplay stealth.

Cheers.

Interesting topic indeed!

I tend to find myself annoyed when I am chasing "people" and they suddenly drop into stealth mode and they get away. There should be some kind of rules for that.

When I play characters that can stealth I only hide out of plain view/line of sight or by "ducking" under tables and such that are in plain sight.

So for me, just being next to a wall doesn't warrant a hiding spot. But being in the shadow of a wall or building or tree or being in a forest does seem a more realistic place to hide.

In my opinion hiding in "plain sight" is not good practice for stealthers. Always try to be under cover, hidden by the LOS of buildings or trees, or physically ducking under tables or behind barrels etc.

Hear Hear Raiden! Agreed. And as we are on the topic, Stealthing inside another persons home is considered Espionage, a crime by covian law. I know some of you out there have been stealthing in peoples personal homes IE not the goblin or barracks. If you are caught stealthing in a persons home they are likley to knock you, and do as they feel pleased to do with you. So in light of a gruesome torture session inside my armoury, watch where ye stealth!

Yeah, bearing in mind the shadow of a wall is on its north side in UO.
