Lead by: Hoagie Attended by: Faden Wildheart --- Faden set off to the Covian barracks knowing he would encounter the experienced sergeant known as Hoagie. He was well known for his duties as former Dragoon squad leader. Upon reaching the Barracks Faden noticed Hoagie just standing around waiting for the next recruit to come along and get a telling off for not shining their boots and tucking in their tunics. Faden approached Hoagie with a lump in his throat and asked him for training, who else would Faden want to train from? The ideally opportunity to learn from the horse master himself! Hoagie quickly agreed and rounded up a horse and met Faden in the Covian fields. Within the fields Faden quickly learnt the basics of handling a horse, how to get it to stay and follow and must importantly what it ate... the freshest of carrots and apples is what the steed likes. Faden was instructed to swing onto the back of the animal which he did with ease. Faden learnt the basics of turning the steed by pulling on the reign a little. Hoagie then gave the go ahead for Faden to apply pressure with his heels to the animals sides to get it moving a little, Faden being Faden pressed a little too hard and the steed shot off bucking around the trees until Hoagie shouted ''Tug on the reigns''. The instructor proceeded to talk about the different types of horses which could be found all the way up to war horses which would as he said it ''Those'll 'ave yer face off''. Next Faden was instructed to trot gentle around the field which he managed to do and kept control over the horse. After a short time Hoagie informed Faden of the days most important lesson which was as he put it, ''Keep your 'orse clear away from Kas, you'll find yer 'orse 'ad an ''accident'' if y'stop payin' attention for too long''. As I am writing this in the Goblin this very eve I heard an almighty bang and ran outside to find a horse had been killed by an explosion! Moments ago Kas entered the Goblin vowing he had nothing to do with it. Back to the report... It was time for Faden to really learn how to control the animal, Hoagie instructed Faden to give the horse a bit o'speed. Faden quite excitingly pressed against the horses sides and held on for his dear life, the breeze wizzing through his hair... this was the life he thought! until he tumbled off landing in the near onion patch. Hoagie ran over quickly to see if he was alright, Faden stumbled to his feet. He dowted that his would be the last time he would fall off. Jumping lessons were next. The sergeant placed a few objects on the ground for Faden to jump over, one was a pink box which Faden crashed in to. After removing the box Faden managed the jump perfectly. Weaving around obstacles was the next challenge, first slowly then at full speed, this was a little challenge but after practice Faden managed it. This will come in handy when racing through the Covian trees. The final lesson now approached, mounted combat! Melee combat on a horse is relatively easy, you just charge at your opponent and stick out a pointy object and hope it hits. Riding a horse, stopping and taking aim would prove to be more of a challenge. Hoagie scared of Fadens bow told Faden to follow him into the Covian wilderness to find some creatures to slay. After awhile of searching the pair noticed a Harpy lurking around an empty bandit camp, they presumed the bandits had been eaten by the Harpy. Hoagie instructed Faden to engage in attacking the bird. This proved little challenge for Faden, he charged passed, stopped took aim and striked, after another run or two the bird fell. Faden leaned off the horse and plucked feathers from the Harpy. Hoagie said ''Ye seem competent enough!'' and he then dismissed Faden saying he would leave him to practice in his own time. Title: Re: Messenger's Trial ~ Faden Wildheart Post by: Kas Valentine on March 03, 2009, 01:26:53 am I love horses, very much, foals especially.
The sergeant is just concerned that such a strength of affection would perhaps startle the creature. I understand. A tiny image of a horse prances around a signature, Company Arcanist Kas Valentine. Title: Re: Messenger's Trial ~ Faden Wildheart Post by: Raiden Morana on March 03, 2009, 08:23:22 am A grand start to your trials Faden.
Heed Sergeant Hoagie. Beware Kas where yer steed is concerned. 'Tis true he loves horses... I dunno if he could eat a full one though. *smirks faintly* *signed* Raiden, Commander. Title: Re: Messenger's Trial ~ Faden Wildheart Post by: Faden on March 08, 2009, 06:58:54 pm Task Two ~ Spread The Word, Far And Wide
Lead by: Faden Wildheart Inspiration Session Attended by: Liphrin Aliryl Trefynwyd Mia Veron Kazuo Shinrai --- The second task was a little more difficult for Faden, he is not a word smith like the flamboyant mouthed Kas so he needed inspiration for the new slogan. Faden gathered up all the local mercenaries and civilians for a brain storming session. The session was hosted in the Goblin, what would be better than ale for releasing tension and getting the minds flowing? The five Covians sat and threw ideas off each other and many phrases were spoken, here are a few: What does Cove mean to you:
Upon ending the meeting we decided on using the new phrase ''Come to Cove and see our style, come once and you'll stay awhile''. Faden travelled the lands spreading this new phrase to all who would listen. Travelling to Papua was interesting and had to be done via the mage shop in Moonglow which lead to Delucia and a cave north of Papua lead to Serpents hold. Sketches below show Fadens vast journey, his steed needed great rest once this was done. --- After reporting to Commander Morana, Faden was instructed to visit the Duke of Trinsic and offer the Companies services against the monstrous hordes which were invading Trinsic. Apparently the Trinsic guardsmen and women have fought off the monsters but additional tasks were required of the Company...
