Post by: Linaeus on March 09, 2009, 06:03:26 pm
You moved into my guest house!? GAH! Who let y-..ABIGAIL!? Th--wha-...Ahem! Ye'd best start earning your keep then, Recruit, or it'll be the streets for ye. Aint' cheap living in the Keres domain. S'see what I can get rid of ye with needs doin'.

Part One: The Desolate Bog
~ Lead a patrol through the bog. You must fight your way through to the far side, then fight your way back.
~ Gather at least 5,000 gold for the coffers (this does not include pay for your squad).

Part Two: Bolstering the Ranks
~ Lay 20 Recruitment banners.
~ Cover all major moongates, towns, and popular dungeons.
~ Each must include a rune and pamphlet -at least-. The more creative the banner, the less yer chances of getting tossed out of my house (who said you could move in, anyway?).

At least two other mercenaries must accompany you for the first part of the task.
A full report must be completed for both parts.
You may do both at once or do them separately.
If you fail, I will evict you.

Date, time: The thirteenth of March at dawn.

Dear Torrak,

In Cove, we live in such magnificent times, I could nay help thinking it is my civic duty to share this abundance with the rest of the world anon. And so, to carry out this thought, I set to work inscribing tomes and marking rocks. Once I had my materials, I journeyed out with the rising sun so that Cove's glorious banners would be seen bathed in sunlight throughout the waking world of Sosaria.

On the evening of March 14th,

I led the Company through the treacherous bog to find clues for the good doctor. The moment we arrived at our marshy destination, I could see the green acidic peat from two hundred paces away. T'was a deposit of dead plants and waste. The water was acidic and I swear I could see it eating away at my boots.

The creatures of the bog were taxing opponents, especially the plague beast lords, but with the Arcanist's paralysis and a little surgery from Raven, Cove came out on top of these abominations.

We fought rhythmically, hacking and fighting our way through the toxic plague that inhabited the marshlands. The more menacing inhabitants included Boggish creatures, Acid Elementals, and Plague Beast Lords. Lizard men, alligators, slime, and serpents  pestered us in great numbers as we tried to bring down the more threatening beasts.

Finally after what seemed like hours we reached the end of the bog. I reminded the company to keep the healing tight and mind their crossfire, lest we end up killing each other rather than the boglings.

We stuck together like glue on the way back. The bog proved less perilous on the return journey, whether that was because of my leadership or happenstance is debatable.

Finally, we were back where we started! We managed to cleanse the bog back into the wetland it should be rather than the poisonous cesspit it hath become. After counting our coins and compiling the clues we found for Doctor Jones, we marched back to Cove double-time!

We rendezvoused back at the Cove barracks where I saluted and thanked all those in swamp plastered coats of mail. “A busy day in the bog indeed!” I thought, as I hauled 6500 gold coins up to the coffers.

I have affixed my last two sketches below.
