Title: Smooth Patrol, Odd Guardsmen
Post by: Veldrin on June 04, 2005, 10:15:40 pm
A resounding round of praise and pats on the back echoed through barracks, moments after the fencing tournament had ended. An underdog - one of the newest recruits - had emerged victorious. Suffice to say, Recruit Deveiant was impressed, though she never got the chance (or perhaps, taken the chance) to congratulate the man herself. Other thoughts meandered through her brain, suggesting this or that: a common effect of boredom.

"Bloody bored," a recruit muttered, seated in a chair nearby. Senaria glanced at him and wrinkled her nose. Then she smiled.

"Could go on patrol," she offered with a shrug. A grand idea, passing the time by protecting Cove and its people. But the Recruit had a more important ulterior motive. Only a few more patrols she had to attend to achieve her quota.

The suggestions continued on, until Junior Guardsman Valiro authorized a patrol. Valiro was unable to join the patrol, so the only members of the patrol would be recruits. Recruit Anari had wanted to lead, at first. Valiro determined that Anari had not enough experience. Trying her hardest not to smirk, Senaria stepped forward. "I've led a patrol before, sir."

Moments later, four recruits stood outside, three of them lined up before Senaria. Nemo, Regdar, and Anari. The patrol was to be lead around Cove, and the surrounding area. The group moved out, eager to get started.

Upon reaching the city of Cove, the patrol split into two groups - Anari and Regdar were to patrol south Cove, while Senaria and Nemo were to explore north Cove. They hardly encountered anything notable - except a wandering troll! Within the walls of Cove! Senaria and Nemo quickly dispatched it, and continued the patrol.

When the time came for the groups to merge together again, it seemed Regdar was missing. Upon questioning Anari, Senaria learned that, apparently, Regdar has been running about, flailing his arms and weapon, shouting at everyone that they were under arrest! Hardly able to contain her laughter, Senaria suggested they look for the missing recruit.

Before they had a chance to take a step, a proud-looking Regdar approached the group, immediately falling in line. Senaria raised her eyebrows, eyeing the fellow recruit. A bit too cocky, hm? Senaria questioned Regdar with  the information Anari had given her. Regdar at first tried to deny it, then eventually accepted responsibility.

Senaria gave a short lecture, pointing out that the duty of the Cove militia was to protect Covians, not scaring them by running about and arresting them. Regdar agreed hesitantly, ashamed of himself.

With the patrol of Cove complete, the group finished an eventless patrol on the surrounding area, then returned to barracks.

Grand report, Recruit Deveiant. Though perhaps tedious at times, the protection of Cove is indeed the Militia's highest priority.
