Title: Grenadier Trials: Tiberius
Post by: Erik Arkay/Evinyatar on June 27, 2006, 07:48:16 am
Oh? Tiberius wants to join the Grenadiers eh? Tis only natural being one of the most experienced and disciplined guardsmen. Besides, he's not getting any younger and those lasses aren't going to keep flocking to him on account of his good looks alone.

Grenadier Trials: Tiberius

Tasks

* To demonstrate your ability to instill Discipline in men you shall hold a most grueling training
* As a sign of Brotherhood you shall lead an expedition into the Dungeon of Ice with only your future Brother Grenadiers
* As a sign of Loyalty to your Baron you will lead an expedition to the Marksman outposts around Trinsic and burn at least one of them

Details

* The training will be attended by at least 6 other guardsmen
* Only Grenadiers may accompany you to the Dungeon of Ice
* In the Ice Dungeon you shall slay at least one white wyrm and one icefiend.
* Make sure that you and any guardsman that accompany you are well disguised. Use cunning and deception before military might and above all, never leave a trail that can lead back to Cove.
* All tasks will be accompanied with reports in this thread

Roit! Taken me awhile ta prepare fer a task o' this magnitude but here it is! I hope ye find it worth the wait.

The heat of the Grenadiers melts the Ice:

In attendance:

Regular Guardsman: Tiberius (Leading)
Grenadier Captain: Erik Arkay
Regular Grenadier: Vlad

The noise of the barracks reconstruction had awoken me this day, and that just put me in a damned murderous mood. I had two choices - to go launch suicidal one man attack on Stonekeep or to rouse some of my soon-to-be brothers to go forth and issue liberal death to all those ice cubes who oppose us in the dungeon of Ice. I choose the more deadly of the two, which of course was the task of killing the legendary ice fiend and its partner in crime, the white wyrm.

I tolled the barracks bell with a cry for Grenadiers, yet only two were brave enough to answer my call! Captain Arkay and Regular Vlad would be my aides in this most deadly mission. I rallied them outside the barracks and we exchanged banter for awhile before our minds cleared and we focused on the task ahead. I asked Captain Arkay to lead the way to the dungeon, seeing as I had no idea where it was and I thought running the wrong way into a heavy forest and being eaten by ogres would be detrimental to our objective.

Our first encounter followed soon thereafter; Altmere Loyalist rebels thought that they could defeat the very right hand of the Baron - the Grenadiers. They were soon proved wrong, as the corpses currently littering the Altmere road prove. I'd advise watching your step.

After what was seemingly an eternal march (a march which almost proved too much for Captain Arkay, Avatar bless him) we reached our destination. Like most dungeons it was cold, dark, damp, and generally not too friendly. And as we entered it soon became apparent the inhabitants of this dungeon were like the ones of every other dungeon, also - unfriendly and downright murderous. Being the civilised and diplomatic people that we are, it was swiftly decided that the best course of action was to hack these miscreants into tiny pieces.

As we probed deeper into the depths of the dungeon, we met the first of our two targets. It was rather disappointingly sized specimen, and despite emitting icy death from its mouth - it was altogether less of a threat once it had the Captain's arrow in its eye, Vlad's mace in its face, and my sword in its gut.

Our final foe presented itself at the mouth of another cave leading further into the abyss that was the dungeon, and despite being smaller than the white wyrm proved to be an altogether different foe. Or should I say foes, as it called many of its brethren to attack our fair expedition. Yet with a hack and a slash and a bit of Covian swagger, we dispatched the brute and its allies and decided 'twas time for a swift march out of the dungeon before we were overwhelmed by angry mourners. I ordered a swift march which Captain Arkay strongly protested against - and with good reason I soon found out as we wytchery, arrows, and swords all liberally hurled at us. Nevertheless, we proved our metal and got out alive...

All in a days work. Though the night shall surely be spent bragging of our deeds and drinking ale!

Here comes ta trainin'!

Ready arms for bronze arms:

In attendance:

Regular Guardsman: Tiberius (Leading)
Officer Cadet (Scout): Olchafa Serpernt
Junior Scout: Edmund Rufus
Junior Dragoon: Hoagie
Junior Guardsman: Mela
Junior Guardsman: Darek Milako II
Guardsman Recruit: Jonathon Fix

Another day, and time for another part of my trials. I awoke to find only a few guardsmen lazily discussing unimportant matters but with my persuasive pigeon methods (releasing several dozen at a time to one person can prove effective, they do peck them so) we rallied the required amount for me to host my training.

The brave few are assembled

I had the men advance in a swift fashion towards the roof and ordered them line up there, I began in the usual way with the sound off and set about teaching them the basics.

Basic orders are issued

After the basics, we began my favourite part of the training; the gruelling physical exercise portion! Being a member of the Covian army is about being the fittest and greatest soldiers that walked the face of Sosaria, and we cannot afford to have lazy fat guardsmen festering our ranks.

Guardsmen savage each other

Having given the guardsmen something to remember this training by (namely pain) I set about ensuring they had the correct kit. I asked to see the light sources and bedrolls of all present, and those without the correct kit were set on straight to the provisioners to buy it!

Those who have their kit are rewarded with a brief respite

To let out any lingering resentment towards myself or others, I rounded off the training in the usual manner; by allowing the guardsman to hack large chunks out of each other in a ritual known as "free-for-all". The eventual winner of this was Olchafa Serpernt.

The survivers are released

Another successful mission!
