Title: Covian Dabloon
Post by: Samuel West on August 05, 2006, 06:45:12 pm
Just an idea about the Dabloon,
It's currently being used by citizens as a means to pay and sell items and to get promoted.

I was thinking that you could give the same concept to the army, get payed each weak a certain amount bassed on rank, and then you can spend it on wears from the citizens.
Could start a whole economy inside BoC!

Thats a great idea Thomas but we'll take one step at a time, if we can somehow find a way to incorporate the army into the doubloon system i'm sure Veldrin will make it happen.

For the time being, Command is swamped with introducing new elements and we'll take things slowly but surely.

I'm bringing this back because I think it's an incredible idea, limit spending even at taverns etc.  That way soldiers will have to conserve they're money.  That seems quite alot more realistic to me.  Just chipping in my two cents.  ;) Kev

We would have to hire someone to keep track of it all!  :o

Wasn't there some sort of doubloon system in T*M? Coppers I think it was, used them to buy... stuff... potions?

Yeah, and it sucked quite frankly  ;D

Sure it sucked, but do you know any Covians who will be spending they're hard earned wages on "Potions!" it would simply make recruits and officers alike spend less at the taverns, and really make money a factor in BoC.  I think it would be a huge step towards more members.

Good idea, but ultimately too hard to manage I think.

Unless we monitored it the way we do, speaking our character as an example.

GRD are using a system like that which seems to work well its looks quite easy to keep track of and makes it more rewarding for yourself

I think it would be a good idea to try to reintroduce it, I dunno about the Grd'ians system, but it could perhaps be used to buy services from the citizens. *Wiggles eyebrows*

Like potions, weapons, clothes, customizing houses, maps, bandages, beer, repairs etc.

People could even rob people for the cash, bandits could steal an x-amount from you depending on rank.

Soldiers get doubloons each week and for hunts, and citizens get them for providing them with different things plus perhaps a wage dependant on their rank.

Just my two pennies (cents are silly)

I always liked the idea.
But I remember back in my Command days how it was struck off immediately simply because a lot of the ex-T*M players (T*M being the Guild that pretty much invented the system) felt that it led to the downfall of the Guild.

Also, the sheer vastness of monitoring and organising the whole system is killer!
But ya know.. Mebbe its time someone gave it a shot.

/sarcam

He is Dutch like me and there for unqualified with such important duties. Not to mention he comes from the southern part wich makes him prone to obesity.

If we split it between me, Delc and perhaps Kazuo it could work?

EDIT: and stop babbling Shadwell! Waited ages to say that. Now I've gotta infect Octiovus with the virus.

score.porgo.nl/score.php

a basic php script (page layout can be included later) with an administrative section that allows us to maintain and organize the count of Citizens' dabloons.

As for dabloon spending, my suggestion would be that we used a standard thread on the citizenboard for that. People can make requests for purchases there. Each sunday (for example) one adminsitrative member checks the thread, makes the changes to the score table and makes sure the goods are distributed in game.

Ofcourse this would mean we need stockpiles (for which dabloons would be distributed each sunday as well) as without stockpiles we cannot sell goods.

I would not mind maintaining this system though, so yeah if you guys want me to be the volunteer to do this then I'll do it. Distributing goods in game though might be slightly more difficult for me as with my very very busy life atm I might not always have time to be in game (afterall I got porn to surf!). But hey, if we appoint some carriers (which would be sensible IC) and give them access to a secure stockpile (perhaps even with keys and locked secure chests so that if someone were to get hold of a key they could actually steal stuff) then distribution can be handled as well.

+2 cents = 20 cents now!

Looks good, and as you say, should be easy to expand. IF you need help, I always have time to kill.
