Title: UO : Kingdom Reborn officially announced!
Post by: Kazuo Shinrai on August 25, 2006, 09:52:38 am
http://www.uo.com/UOKRpressrelease.html

First thing that stood out when I read this article... new race!
Everyone ofcourse knew there would be a new race as after ML they could not go back. Now I just wonder what race they might introduce. I'd say Gargoyle (looking at Ultima's past), but it will probably be eiter gnomes or dwarves. As for the rest of the promises, well we can only wait and see what happens but one thing is for sure. They have the team and the resources to build something great, they have an official EA press release (which is always positive) and now they just need to deliver some quality content!

If they are to introduce shorter humanoids for play like dwarves of gnomes, they would have to re make most of the coding as they armours wouldn't fit. And I think that would be to much work for them. Then again, who says with the new graphic engine that they wont re make the coding. I don't know how the paperdoll would look, but they would have to have seperate armours for the gnomes, which would end in more items being made, as you now have to do not one but two different sizes of the same item. I don't know, I kind of hope they do.

Would be cool if they introduced an evil race to play were your ok in cities that have evil npcs and the other way around.

It will most likely be a Dwarven race, consider in the last one they added elves, to conterdict that, they would add the opposite, dwarves, but I do think it would be great if they would add a type of undead character style, maybe skeletons or liches?

As they've introduced more and more powerful skills, and elves pwn humans... They'll introduce something more powerful than elves... PANDAS!!!

Well, its not just a new graphics engine... They're rebuilding the client from the ground up...

So the dungeons will still be the same?

Most likely more balanced.
It would be good if creatures like dragons posed a threath again!
Additionally, it would be nice if they made training a little more enticing (and nescessary) and artifacts less overpowering.

Now it's like...
"Ohh, I'll make a new char! I always wanted to have a paladin samurai archer!"
*newbie char swallows an advanced character token*
*newbie summons some complimentary skills from a soulstone
*newbie equips full artifact armour and goes to a dungeon*

The result...
*newbie owns everything in sight (and even some beyond)!*

What it -should- be like...
*newbie goes to a dungeon*
*newbie equips loads of artifacts*
*newbie gets owned, azzraped, killed and then owned again*
*newbie lost all his gear*
*newbie decides to train before he goes in the next time*

and then in my Utopia (as it once was for me)...
*newbie has a blast training his character*
*newbie finally progressed to the point where he stands a fair chance in aforementioned dungeon*
*newbie owns a dragon after a long and difficult battle*
*newbie rejoices and actually feels the sensation of being victorious over the mythical beast*
*newbie doesn't quit UO for the next 8 years*

but this will probably be the harsh reality...
*newbie moans about the game being too difficult*
*newbie quits*

*Newbie joins BoC and doesnt quit for 8 years, eventually killing the Baron (irl) and claiming himself Emperor of Sosaria. Then he dies of testicle cancer.

I once had a picture of my char Tyron running around Destard, scared shitless. Remember a friend saying he'd beaten 2 dragons and 3 drakes back in 2k. I was really, really impressed. Now I'd be like... Pffft.

Shagwell, forgot the last "*"
