Title: A small problem
Post by: Vince Valentine on January 25, 2007, 08:28:14 am
Picture the scene.
I've just finished work, I'm all set for a little UO. I start up my PC, icq pops on, and to my utter delight, I find that every last one of my contacts is missing.
I tried rebooting, shaking my monitor etc but to no effect.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
If so, is there any way to get my list back?

Thanks in advance,

Vince

That's happened to me before; it tends to return after awhile. You could try a reinstall if it gets desperate.

Ahh, you've met (another) bug of ICQ...

Hard to say... I don't use ICQ for couple of years (with a small break), but considering people's comments here and there the program is so buggy, that is believed to be able to infest your house with roaches...

The contacts list is kept on the server server. If it disappeared because of server bug, it's likely they will use backup and your contact will return to their place.
On the other hand, if somehow your ICQ "told" the server to flush the whole list, you should better start adding them once again  :-\

Agreed. And MSN doesn't have warsheep or zoopaloola. I'd suggest a re-install.

Yes. Thus the reason I refuse to download that virus attracting program.

If you've been using a relatively recent version of icq then your contacts should be stored online.  A reinstall should suffice.  When I was at my parents in August I downloaded icq onto my Mum's computer and bingo! all my contacts were in the list.
