Title: History and Lore
Post by: Perrin on March 19, 2007, 05:54:44 am
Found this site awhile ago but forgot I had it under my favorites. I read through a little of it just now and it's quite interesting. For anyone who's interested in the history and lore behind UO it's definately worth a look.  :)

It's a good old site.

(She is not to be mixed with the Floria in Grd though.)

Yes, very interesting. Well-written. Especially liked the Ultima timeline.

Seemed quite good. Here's another good one for Europe.

Yeh most people should age their character with the time line, but most people prefer to stay 19 for ten years.  I think it's more fun to develop my character by the chart, because it just makes it more realistic.  I mean.... Who see's a 19 year old holding a high NCO rank in life?  No one that's who!

Yup, and that's a great point. But on the other hand, if going this way, chars should probably die after they got old...

Time Calculation in Ultima Online

    * In 2 Earth hours an entire Britannian day will have passed.
    * Twelve Britannian days makes one Earth day.
    * Britannian years have twelve months which have the same names as the real months (e.g. January, February, etc).
    * Each Britannian month consists of 73 days (this conflicts with Ultima series lore where a month has either 28 or 30 days, depending on the episode)
    * This makes a Britannian year last 876 Britannian days, which is 73 Earth days.
    * One Earth year equals five Britannian years.
    * The release date of Ultima Online was in the Britannian year 314. Stratics incorrectly states 289 on it's date and time page. Based on the fact that 5 Britannian years are 1 real life year, the UO release date is 314, as stated on another stratics page, assuming the current Britannian date displayed by stratics is correct.
    * UO was released on 10/30/1997.

So the year is 361? Someone should make a calender :P

Woo! John joined Cove at the age of 19! And he is now 29! :D

I'm going to age my character this way now I think

I think the 297 is more plausible since the 300th anniversary of Mondain's death was introduced in game sometime after launch.  I think its the current Britannian date that is wrong.

So today the 23th march 2007 is the 57th June in the year 364 right ?

23.03.2007 = 57.06.364

*scratches head*

Nay worries anybody, I'm doing a converter in PHP. I'll let you know when ready :)

Thought of scripting such a converter by my own but there are to much unknown variables to be set yet

like starting year 289 or 314 , exact starting date like both starting on 10/30 (which is possible) or do you set the starting  point to the begin of both years like 01.01.289 and 01.01.1997
the convertion table should be somthing like that

RlMinute   5   1   UOHour
RLHour   1   12   UOHour
RLDay   1   288   UOHour
RLHour   2   1   UODay
RLDay   1   12   UODay
RLMonth   1   365   UODay
Rlyear   1   4380   UODay
Rlyear   1   5   UOYear
UOYear   1   12   UOMonth
UOMonth   1   73   UODay
UOYear   1   876   UODay

Hmm, overall you're right...
Except I would ignore year 289 as it is said to be incorrect.
If someone will know the exact Britannian date of UO release...

Would help alot.

EDIT:
Quote from: http://ultima.floriarama.info
The dates between the years -150 and 0 have been adjusted by +200 years. In the Ultima timeline Ultima II and Ultima III take place in these years. This doesn't happen in UO as UO's own timeline begins right after the destruction of the Gem of Immortality in Ultima I.

But saying the exact britannian date for today is IMO impossible without knowing the date of UO release, becuase using only year 314 you're forced to say that 01.01.314 = 30.10.1997.
Except you will count dates only for UO - so 30.10.1997 = 01.01.01. Then it's easy. Although I'm at work atm so I don't have time to do the calendar maths ;)
