Shadow hued for armor, but I doubt you want to make a custom metal set as a recruit as the results would be crappy anyway. Leather on the other hand knock yourself out, you'll be looking the same anyway from recruit to Hardened. If you are wearing metal armor wait till you're Junior too make a custom armor set. Anyway, I think that the metal should be only shadow iron, valorite in character would be much more expensive, Shadow iron is affordable and we don't get many noble recruits that can afford he luxury of comfort and durability over cheapeness unfortunately :/ So it's not only a look issue, it's a in-character issue! I don't look that much down on it...And I only rarely use my val set.
