As I've heard, there was such topic some time ago, but since there are lots of new people around, maybe it'd be nice to know each person's name "behind the scene", huh?

Here goes I:

All of my character names (as I've mentioned somewhere) came from the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons:

Qom Riyadh - actually it's a name of a Muslim planet, placed among vast universe described in the book. Visited by the main characters in the Endymion part.

Lenar Hoyt (not guilded) - the pope of Pax - the reinvigorated Roman Catholic church. He shares his body with the Cruciform of Paul Dure (the Anti-pope). [read the story to understand. Definitely worth it.]

Jaev Helvig (not guilded) - name of one of Pax marines. My try-everything char.

My main character :
Gandalf - I saw Lord of the Rings and he is a mage too!

Atreyu Illvastar - main char (unguilded)

Atreyu comes from The Neverending story...hes the hero...cool film and book.
Illvastar comes from Baldurs Gate 1...hes a paladin:)

Nicholi Ravnthorn... Nicholi I took from Nicholai... which is slavic meaning "Victory of the people" or "Victorious people" And Ravnthorn I created from a base "Ravi" whish means sun. This is a reference to Nicholi nickname from AD&D where I first created him "The Phoenix" becuase his character type involved him cycling through nature.. rising and falling as different creatures.

Khaelieth - Sounds Elven!

Charles Innes - My first char, he had my name and my clan's surname

Declan Innes - Always loved the name Declan

Lil'alure - Means Dance in Drow

Valandil - Just a name

Caledia Vaniel - Just a name

Tyron - Dunno, just invented it

Kihara - My old drow. Existed VERY briefly

Kushguul - ORC

Faden Wildheart... I went through various names and this one sounded the best. Its from my imagination.

Maldraedior - is a spellcasting blue Dragon for a Card game called Spellfire.

Alpha-Four - is my own creation, made as the 4th clone in the old Judgement city Judges guild.

Rauglothgor - Draco lich from pen & paper RP.

Zu'Guul - My own creation, name for my Goblin character that was in Sharp Tooth Goblins and the Severed Heads Orcs.

Gruzom - My own creation, made on my Orc character that was in the Severed Heads Orcs.

Got some other characters as well that some of you might know me as, but do not wish to reveal all of them.

John Dell was wittely created by me and Nec Mera when we were asked to think up a common name for my character. John was a regular name and Dell seemed like a good last name once we glanced on my mates computer.
Jack is the sinister one on the Jeckel album and so I made Jack Sinist.

Raiden Morana - Raiden is the Japanese thunder god and Morana means death in Slavic.

Amon Jarl - Amon is an Egyptian god known as the hidden one and Jarl means nobleman - Scandanavian i think?

Sallust - A character from Dennis Wheatley novels.

Perun - Slavic again i think - means thunder.

I've got a couple of unguilded chars that you may have seen floating around...

John Trent - I just wanted a char who's nickname could be "JT" after Chelsea's John Terry - a bit sad i know and i don't even like Chelsea :P John of course is about as common a name as you can get and he's an archer and although highly improbable the Robin Hood legend seems to be rooted in Nottingham and the river Trent runs through Nottingham.

Ragnar Vaniir - I wanted a Viking sounding dood! I hope i get this right... Vaniir i think were the red haired norsemen from Robert E Howards Conan and Ragnar is/was a common norse/dane name - dunno what it means but it'll probably be something cool :)

Dyril Morvain- My commoner who you may have seen breifly, I invinted the name while playing The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Marcus Illinius Kobra-Dain, Marcus- Sounded Romanesque, Illinius- Same thing, Kobra- wanted a name that was animal like but not exact... the mis-spelling is intentional (family related type thing) and the "Dain" A suffix wich I do not use in game but was part of the origional character design, the Dain is used to denote an evil or taint of the fmaily name in the society he was from. His Father Mathias Kobra-Dain was an evil Socceror, thus he was refered to as Dain (Dis-Dain).

I have other characters that I have used and made but they havn't eisted in the UO universe so they are irrelevant to this topic I beleive. If you think they arnt irreleant then PM me. Thanks

Darath Mithar - Originally this character started off as a Minotaur char. I thought that this name sounded pretty minotaury.

Mongo - Dont ask! When i joined UD i was pretty new to RP so joined Mongo because i didnt want to delete an old char. Its a decision i regret to this day! Some one told me a year or so later that it means freak in swedish!

Qu'ellis Hawk - My first UO chracter. The name just sounded right to me.

Jorus Freespire - Ive always loved the name Jorus before and though Freespire sounded pretty cool.

Means earl=)

Teagan Trix - Catskills shard (my own char of course), the last name is cos I wanted something to rhyme with The Trickster.

Mela - Its elven for love & she was a love child.. it fitted.

Flina Trix - I just made it up=P

Rose Amara - Rose is my little sisters name.

Dalamar: I am bad figuring out names so I take always a book from shelf and choose one from there.

Vince Valentine -

I'm sure any final fantasy fan knows that Vincent Valentine was one of the characters in final fantasy 7. Originally he wasn't an RP character, but spent most of his time in Tokuno killing dread spiders. I had to shorten the Vincent to Vince because of the maximum letters in a name rule when creating a character. So basically, his name is a kind of tribute to my favourite game of all time.

Sir Brent (Unguilded) -

My first UO character, he was named after David Brent, the boss from 'The office'.
FACT. :P

It's a shortened version for Mongoloid in Sweden, which is an offensive word of or related to Down syndrome.
Mongoloid can also be used as an offensive word in English, so I wouldn't call it freak, seems a bit judgemental if you ask me.

Delcarakdur - Means something in elven that I need the Silmarillion to decipher right now. My first UO char ever too... ;)

Dwral Nahlig - Generated using a dwarven name generator

Vincenzio - I wanted an italian name for my assassin char

Uggrek - Sounds orcish ter me :P

Gambit Heckle: Name of me best friend Irl is Gambit, Heckle cos it sounds awesome :D

Averion: Just made up to sound sorta orcish sorta human :D

Delfonso: Sounds very noble :)

Tango: This character was originally for PvP but I turned her into a brigand from B^F. The idea was when I killed someone I could boast by saying "You've been tango'd" :D

Roight, here goes then.

My first two main characters Ryean (warrior) and Arthan (mage) were names I made up. Jana (my second warrior) was a name I liked.

Kazuo Shinrai
- Kazuo is a name for a firstborn son
- Shinrai (family name) means Honest or Trustworthy

Kasei Senshi
- Basically means "Fireborn Warrior", being a hardened samurai and all (originally bodyguard -fai'da ki- for the daimyo).

Moraine DiGoraz - another name I made up.

I despise people who cannot think up their own names and thus steal names from famous characters from novels, movies or games (like Squall, Teclis, Gandalf or Mithrandir). It's not that hard to think up your own name and if you think it is then let's face it, you won't be all that creative a roleplayer, Taking an existing name or ancient name is alot less bad but I still admire people who can think of their own names the most. Anyway, if you are gonna steal a name then at least pick a cool one, like Runar Thor.

Kyte- Was originally the name of my Halfling Thief in DnD.. (I'm such a geek)

Tyrael- The arch-angel from Diablo II
Styx- The river styx in greek and roman mythology, after you died one must cross the river styx to get into the underworld

Richard Rahl- The main character from the Sword of Truth Novels

Zeddicus- Full name is Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander the grandfather of Richard Rahl

Kurt Alimar - Original character from back when I played on atlantic, anyway I didn't think originality was big back then so I named him Kurt after "ME!"  This was before I RPed and switched to Europa a year later tbh.

Markus Alimar - Just made it up.

Raziel Narlam - Took Raziel from a demons name, Narlam I just heard it somewhere.

Torgan - took from the game for an old orc char.  [Retired]

Garock - Thought it was cool strong Orc name.  [Retired]

Regnier - A demonic general of Orc and Undead from Kingdom Under Fire.

Shardak - Just thought it sounded nice and creepy.

Garret Latham - Dunno how I came up with this one.  [KIA BABY!]

Malkior - Old character on Atl stole from a guy named Malkor.

Gregor Eason.

Mmm. Gregor because it was just a strong, sturdy sounding name.

And Eason was the name of this really kool Corporal I had for Recruit Training with the Army. Thats right! Eason EXISTS! ;d

Jarl means beeing born into richness...not nessesarily noble...but most often so.

Mongo means in scandianavian....Idiot, sick-person and various other synonyms for being stupid^^

Celuvian Haap I just came up with in like 2 secs before creating the character 2 weeks ago or so... Haap means Hope in Norwegian.

No it doesn't Celuvian.. I already wrote what it means.

Thomas Sendrich - Thomas was the name of my best friend as a kid, Sendrich i made up.

Henry Dreat - Henry because it was an adverage name and i didn't want some fancy name for this char, Dreat i made up again.

Richard Reeth - I'll admit that i picked Richard from the Sharpe books, Reeth i stool from the Quicksilver books.

It's slang for someone with Down's syndrome.

Could people please stop posting things that has clearly already been stated more than once in this thread. Or I'll just lock it!

My red archer:- Ketchup, I named her that because she was a red so i thouhgt....hmm, what else is red? =D
