23  Command Boards / Covian Boxing League / Covian Boxing League Information on: May 24, 2007, 11:06:43 pm
CBL - THE COVIAN BOXING LEAGUE

I. The Covian Boxing League - What's that all about?

The Covian Boxing League is an organization within Cove and stands outside the ranks of the Army and Citizenship. The League has its own ranking system and honours.

Boxers all around Sosaria will come to Cove to spread their knowledge and wisdom of the art and are more than willing to share their experience with the younger members of the community. Techniques and tricks are discussed regularly.

Exercises and educational lectures are conducted regularly to increase the vast knowledge that lays within the art of boxing. As a member becomes more knowledgeable in certain arts they will have the merit to pass their knowledge on and thus rising in rank and importance.

If you are a boxer at heart, the boxing league is something for you!

II. The Covian Boxing League - Who can participate?

Anyone, friend or foe, that holds any interest of boxing at all is welcome to participate in the trainings and lectures. Citizens or guardsmen alike are welcome!

Squaded or guilded members does not have to leave their squad or guild to join the League as it is only an organization. Squad loyalty hold no matter as this is above politics and military rankings, which is an especially important to follow, because cross-city tournaments will occur in the future.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR GUILD TO JOIN THE BOXING LEAGUE!

[OOC: If you wish to join or contact the Boxing League in order to join or with questions. You can contact Qom or John Dell, and our numbers are:  (Qom = 38-957-010 and John Dell = 203-911-891). All actions have to occur ingame to be validated!]

III. The Covian Boxing League - What will I get from it?

The Boxing League will give you detailed trainings in the art of boxing as well as how to build the perfect boxing physique. Ability to find weaknesses of opponents, learn about human anatomy, roles of each muscle groups and proper diet, to help develop a strong, healthy body.

The League will train you into a boxing champion! As time processes boxing championship and tournaments will be conducted to seek out the best boxer in Sosaria!

Different badges will be given based on how your skills have increased and how many victories you hold. Once a champion has been established and hold the title for a month he will receive a reward sum.

IV. CBL - What is the league structure?

  • Head coach - one of the League owners, also any other person entitled this way by owners of the League. Maintains the quality of League trainings, analyzes progress of boxers, and, of course, organizes funding and special events, such as tournaments or duels.
  • Personal Coach - Person which takes care about development of a specific boxer (or boxers, if needed). Has a great knowledge of boxer's weaknesses and positive features. Every boxer can become a PC, if he will prove his knowledge in the art of boxing, is skilled enough, and has needed experience to train other boxers on their way to Championship.
  • Boxers - Basically the League is all about them - their development both physical and psychical way.
  • Staff - generally speaking, all persons needed in the background to sustain the activity of the CBL - cleaners, medics, assistants etc

V. CBL - What are the rules?

Fighters use:
  • A kilt (dyed, given to a member upon joining) (during trainings)
  • Blue/Red kilt (during tournaments)
  • Sandals
  • Plain leather boxing gloves
Any other clothing is allowed only before or after the fight for decorative purposes and general show-off. Each boxer will be provided with plain clothes to be used for outdoor training sessions.

The Fight
Each fight, even a training one lasts for 3 rounds, 90 seconds each.
During the break between rounds, no healing is allowed, except for a single use of a lesser healing potion. No magery, nor bandaids - only self recovery!

During the fight there will be 3 judges present to note legal punches and point taking, and unless a KO has been dealt, decide the victor of the match.

[OOC]The judges will judge everything OOC based on role playing ability. So if another boxer power-emotes or avoids punches throughout the match the victor will most obviously be the other boxer. This is ALL about role play and having fun.

A boxing has a bigger chance of winning a fight the more experience points he has. What type of boxers that are facing each other plays a big part as well. A slugger will have a bigger chance of winning against an in-fighter, and the judges will take this into consideration when judging a fight. Judges will also judge more in favour of the one with most experience points.]

Usage of any illegal additives is forbidden, and leads to disqualification from a fight, and can even lead to ban from the CBL!
Illegal additives:
  • Nightshade
  • Petals of Trinsic Rose
  • Strength potions
Before each fight a blood test will take place.

[OOC]It's all about RP fun. You can take such things just before fight, in a place when IC chars can't see you, but the actual players do. Before fight each fighter will roll two dices. If the sum will be below 12, you have failed the test. If you haven't took any 'drugs', outcome of test is always 'clear'.]

VI. CBL - Ranks, Honours, Medals, and Cups

CBL Ranks

Progress depends on training and knowledge. Training is done on training sessions and regular fights. Knowledge is received on classes. Hence such activities are required to reach higher levels in the CBL.

The ranking rules are simple:

Won fight: 1.5pt
Lost fight: 0.25pt
Drawn fight: 0.5pt

Fighting in tournament: extra 3pts
Winning a tournament: extra 6pts

  • Apprentice boxer - 15 points
  • Journeyman boxer - 32 points
  • Master boxer - 67 points + be at least 3rd in a tournament
  • Legendary boxer -  150 points + win a tournament

CBL Ranking System

Points given for a fight are the same as above:
  • Fight WON: 1.5
  • Fight LOST: 0.25
  • Fight DRAWN: 0.5
* points are awarded even for a lost fight, because it also adds to boxer's experience.

25  Command Boards / Covian Boxing League / The Boxing League's Introductory Meeting on: May 14, 2007, 12:54:40 am
Boxing Introduction

Held by: John Dell and Qom Riyadh

Attended:

Dragoon Sergeant Hoagie
Grenadier Corporal Raiden Morana
Senior Guardsman Tiberius Kane
Watchman Faden Wildheart
Watchman Celuvian
Guardsman Recruit Synara Kahn (Left around the middle)
Guardsman Recruit Jakob D'Stoke
Guardsman Recruit Zoie Hayden

With this introductory report we hope to tease the urge to try boxing out, and to show what we talked about in our first meeting!

Our introduction seminar was located in Cove's Academy of Fighting Excellence and as we arrived to the newly set up class room like facility everyone sat down and the lecture could begin. To help those that did not focus on the lecture and to those that chose not to show up we will present what areas we went through and a small recap about them.

What was being brought up:

  • WHAT boxing really is.
  • The two different boxing styles: Brawler and out-fighter.
  • Rock-Paper-Scissors.
  • Boxing outfit.
  • 90 Second Rounds.
  • The Homework.

What is boxing?

Boxing is more than going to a tavern, drinking yourself instable, and then trying to know out each others teeth on the muddy streets. Boxing has rules, honour, and finesse. It's a sport, not a brutal bunch of men longing for violence. Boxing is about being a winner! Training hard and becoming a champion! Boxing is how we can gain glory!

Boxing Styles.

The Slugger, also referred to as the Brawler, or Puncher, is the fighting style fitting the slow and brutish. The Slugger is noted for his raw power and lack of finesse. Due to the slugger's dangerous single-punch power, the slugger has a high knock-out rate. They often lack mobility and have a difficulty pursuing opponents that are fast on their feet. They tend to prefer hard, slower punches like the uppercut and hook and tend to ignore punching combination - which leaves them open for counter-punches.

The Out-Fighter could be explained easily as the opposite of the slugger, although this is not entirely true. The out-fighter is someone who likes to keep a distance between himself and the opponent. Working with swift feet, keeping the opponent at bay with faster and longer punches like the jab.  And because they rely on the weaker punches, like the jab, out-fighters often wins by points rather by knock-outs. They like to control the fight by using long jabs to keep the opponent away, using good and fast footwork to dodge and evade the opponent if he closes in. Some say that they are the best strategists because of their ability to control the pace of the fight, tearing the opponent down and tiring him. An out-fighter shows more finesse than a Slugger.

Swarmer. Mentioned but not explained.

Rock-Paper-Scissors

The different boxing types work as the well known child game rock-paper-scissors. Each boxing type has a weakness which another has as strong point. This might best be explained as follows:

Out-Fighter > Brawler
Brawler > Swarmer
Swarmer > Out-Fighter

The out-fighter that wants to keep a distance has an advantage to the slow brawler who hits slow but hard. Those with a brain might be able to figure out what the swarmer, also called in-fighter, has as strong point and weak point.

Boxing Outfit

The boxing outfit is to consist solely on a pair of sandals, short pants, and boxing gloves. Women will be allowed to wear a shirt.

Rounds & Time

A boxing match will consist of three rounds. Each round being 90 seconds with a 30 seconds pause between each round. After the three rounds have passed and neither of the contestants have been knocked out, the judges rule a winner and the match is over. The match can however be a lot longer than 3 rounds if the judges doesn't agree, and will then go on until a knock out has taken place. Epic rounds are well known for title matches and tournament finals.

Homework!

The Covians that participated were given a home work. If you are interested in coming to the next session feel free to do it! It is important as the next meeting will be based upon what you have gathered.

You were asked to gather as much information on yourself as possible; what you are good at and your weak points. Are you tall and muscular or are you small and agile, or perhaps small but strong with a lot of stamina? We ask that you gather as much information about yourself to present for next time.

Are you interested in the Covian Boxing League and would like to know more, or are you interested in coming to our next session, eventually signing up for the League? Sign below!

Patrolling Cove

Guardsmen in Attendance:

Regular Guardsman John Dell (Led)
Regular Dragoon Thomas Sendrich

We went to a quick patrol to Cove to see if order was kept inside the gates. A town crier has apparently been hired in Cove, surely a sign of prosperity and growth!
Nothing else interesting to report.

Signed,
Thomas Sendrich on behalf of,
John Dell

John walked past the images of the course and stops to glance at them.

"Vince married a man, hihihi" - He said as he walked away giggling to himself.

John walked off towards the tavern away from Eason's ramblings and fart burning ways..

Tiberius sat on the usual bar stool, drinking his life away as John stepped in.

"Tibby sir, I need yer help."
"What? Another ruthless report to write for ye?"
"No sir! An application sir!"
"For what?"
"The navy sir!"

Right after had finished Tiberus squirted out his ale like a geizer all over the tavern keeper, he took a quill and some paper to begin write the application.

*I, John Dell, hereby give my soul and life to serve the seven seas under the ruthless leadership of Sir Gregor Eason.*
