46  In Character Boards / In Character Board / [Report] Fitness training on: October 24, 2018, 04:43:10 am
Leading:
  • Leanne Martin-Melior, Regular Scout

Attending:
  • Raiden Harper-Morana, Captain
  • Garrison Hawke, Watchman
  • Alton Aldwin, Guardsman Recruit
  • Axiana Masteen, Patrician
  • Carolin Kazami, Commoner

I could not help but notice that recruit Aldwin still lacks a couple of trainings to get promoted. As he does not have a mentor yet and I am one of the only Scouts not on foreign duty, I decided to hold one and get them all in shape. I may have gotten a bit of a bigger belly too since my wedding.

After briefly addressing their flaws and thanking Axiana for a king sized bed, I ordered them to run down to the Covian gates and back as a little warm up. Although the Captain was in the lead at the beginning, Carolin was way faster than him.

Next up was a bit of a lifting training. We headed down to the Glenmore Highlands where we attempted to lift some of the rocks. The summary of this training is as followed:

  • I managed to carry them for a brief moment
  • The Captain had to show off and showed that he has beside a fat belly still some muscles in his arms
  • Recruit Aldwin lifted with his back and injured himself
  • Carolin sneakely avoided the training as she had to take care of the recruit
  • Axiana was unable to lift the rocks and needed to team up with Hawke

For our next part, we went to the Covian fields that were still a tad muddy from sunday's Freedom Festival. I ordered them to get down in the dirt and give me ten push ups. Miss Masteen was unaware of the concept of this sort of training, and while I explained her what to do, recruit Aldwin tried once more to avoid the needed numbers given!
But I noticed tho and ordered him to make an extra ten. I think in the end tho, Miss Masteen used this opportunity to not make her push ups...

And then it was time for the grand final! A good old Covian Last Man Standing. As the end part of the fight went on for quite some time, here's another summary.

  • Carolin attacked Raiden and I joined her from the shadows
  • Carolin attacked me, but immediately regret that and got shot down by me
  • Meanwhile, Aldwin and Hawke fought, of which the Watchman came out victorious
  • The Watchman and Captain teamed up versus me and did not ONCE switch targets, keeping me running, but both of them unable to take me down
  • I was once attacked by Carolin, who seemed to think she had to rejoin after she already bit the dust
  • The two shield brothers did not attempt to switch targets, even after I almost took down the Captain, so I ceased the fight after ten minutes

I tried to explain Carolin once that even though this is a Free for all, people of the same squad should try to stick together. Hawke said he'd never turn against the man who signed him up so many years ago. Like that ever stopped me from shooting Keres.

I'm sitting on the porch
Wind blowing through my hair
The ducks are frolicking in the pond
But I just can't seem to care

Life goes on around me
I don't participate
I go through all the motions
But what I really do is wait

I dream about the day
That you'll come "home" to me
Nothing else is important
Why can't people see?

I don't want to go out
I don't want to have fun
I don't want to do a thing
Until all is said & done

They took you in the summer
Now fall is almost finished
Winter will be here very soon
And then the year will have diminished

You have no idea how much I cry
I never let you know
It's so hard out here without you
But I'm not allowed to let it show

I must pretend all is fine
Everyone thinks all's okay
But what I never ever tell them
Is that I cry for you every day

After many years away from Cove, I recently returned to Cove and was shocked to see that the Green Goblin was no more. Instead, there was a new inn, called The Cardinal Feather.

I wrote my old friend Yukina Kazami to hold a tavern night with a little extra for good old sake. Quickly, we decided to hold a boxing tournament for all people of the north.

We started to pour out beverage for all the thirsty citizens first and Khae sure did enjoy himself, before we set up the ring.

Round One

First up was Covian Commander, the bald cannonball himself, versus the Red Menace Rimmeny De Blaze. A quick victory for the Vesperian! I blame the short arms of the Commander for his beating.

Round Two

The most even match in the tournament! Black hair with black heart Sheriam Palmer versus Idon'tfightwomen Rowan Miller of Yew. Both dealed a couple of punches, tho in the end, our black haired lass was victorious.

Round Three

Next up was the drunken noble Khae versus the man in a dress, Justin Xiang. Clearly, poor Khae was intoxicated by too much alcohol before and he hardly did land a punch, only to get pummeled by Justin. He did not back down without showing what he had for dinner tho.

Semi Final

As there was an uneven number before the final, I did Lady Luck choose the one with the immediate entry to the final. It was our very own Black Lady Sheriam Palmer and the tickets were totally not rigged.
The man in a dress and the Red Menace bitterly punched each other, but in the end, Arrow Fist Justin Xiang won over the bearded Redguard.

Final

Black Eye Sheriam Palmer versus Arrow Fist Xiang - it was finally time to see who of the two was the better boxer. And as before, Justin did not go easy on his opponent. Unlike the Yewlander Miller, he did not care his enemy was a woman and that clearly showed, as he rained an avalanche of fists on the poor lass. The Champion of the Night: JUSTIN XIANG OF VESPER!

The three top participants got an engraved trophy with their name for their skills. A truly eventful evening I'd be not able to organize without Yukina Kazami and her aid.

55  Guardsman Boards / Arcanist Board / [Research] The Arcane Path on: October 16, 2018, 11:22:49 am
Leanne woke up at the counter in the Cardinal Feather Inn. Carolin took care of her wound the last night and she only remembered little of it. What she did remember though, was that she used some scrolls to teleport between spaces. Of course, Leanne took advantage of the Recall spell like almost everyone in the army, but other than that, she hardly ever showed much interest in nor skill in any arcane spell.

However, truly it felt amazing to cast some spells, albeit being some very basic. She knew though, that in the long run, she had to actually study the Meaning of the words and reagents she used, or it would go down deep in her pocket to restock scrolls every now and then.

Leanne of course only thought of one teacher that could show her some spells: her very own wife. Granted, Ilyana could teach her the very same things, but that didn't go too well last time, as a matter of fact, Ilyana did try to teach Leanne some basic spells in the past. But the short tempered nature of Ilyana and her lack of patience brought that to and end quickly.

Leanne entered the Arcanist Tower to find Pickles once again reading some lines of a book. "Am I disturbing ye, hun?", Leanne asked sheepishly. Pickles looked up from her book and smiled. You never disturb me, Love."

She sat in front of her, rocking on her chair. "Can I ask ye a favor? Ye know... I was wonderin' if ye could teach me some basic spells..." Pickles arched an eyebrow and asked: "Are ye tryin' to switch squads after all?"
Leanne chuckled and shook her head. "Nah. I just used some scrolls recently, ye know, like the Teleport spell. I must say, it certainly would be nice to have some spells at my disposal."

Pickles smirked. "So, when it comes to teaching a few things to you lots, us Arcanists are good enough, eh?" Leanne looked at her puzzled. "I literally married the Arcanist Corporal. Did I ever leave the impression on ye I disliked the Arcanists in any way?" "Heh, I was just joking with you, Love."

The two women gathered in the basement of the Tower, where Pickles handed Leanne a Beginners Spell Book and a small pouch filled with herbs. "First things first: You know you'll need to get branded if you decide to cast spells, right?" Leanne nodded. "Good. Herbs! You'll need them. The Words of Power are useless if you don't have the herbs to cast a spell. Granted, you don't need them when you use a scroll, but casting a spell with herbs increases its power ten fold. What kind of spells did you actually have in mind to learn?"

Leanne shrugged a bit, but then replied: "I guess the Teleport one seems nice. Also, I'm mostly interested in learning beneficial spells like healing wounds, curing infections or increasing ones agility. Ye know, tha' kind of stuff."
Pickles nodded and produced some garlic, ginseng and spider's silk. "Let's take the basic Healing spell for example. You'll need these three herbs to cast it. Ginseng and garlic are known for their positive effects on your body's health. Now, the spider silk is mostly used for summoning, conjuring or binding. In relation to Healing, this means you'll conjure new skin cells in closing wounds. Understood so far?"

Leanne nodded hastily, checking her own bag of herbs. "Well then. The words of power for this spell are 'In Mani'. 'In' stands for Make, Cause or Create. This brings us back to part of creating new skin cells. 'Mani' means Life or Healing. So the words together literally mean 'Create Healing' or 'Cause Healing'. The opposite of this would be 'An Mani', which means 'Negate Life' or 'Negate Healing'. But this would be harmful to others, and you said that is not up your alley."

Leanne smiled and nodded. "Aye, I'll stick to by bow to cause harm." "That's good. Make sure to understand the Meaning of these words. It is essential for spell casters to understand it or your spells will fizzle. I left some side notes in your book to help you memorize them, as well as a page for all the eight reagents and their effects."

Leanne tried some of the spells in her book herself. While some seemed to be more easy, she already struggled with spells on the Third Circle. Pickles silently stood next to her, while Leanne attempted the spells over and over again.

"You'll learn the spells eventually. Keep on learning, studying and practicing and you'll get the hang of it. Although I don't think you'll be able to cast spells higher than the Fifth Circle without studying for years. And I guess that there is little to no arcane blood in you doesn't help you either."
"Hah, well. There sure was some Arcanist inside of me."
said Leanne with a cheeky grin.

"No distractions! Keep on studying!"

Not too shabby, recruit. It was a total mess of running around, but fun nonetheless!

59  In Character Boards / In Character Board / [Report] Sea Cruise! on: October 14, 2018, 07:57:35 am
Leading Guardsman:
  • Leanne Martin-Melior, Regular Scout

Attending Guardsmen:
  • Gregor Eason, Senior Guardsman
  • Alton Aldwin, Guardsman Recruit

Another evening, another time for duty! My injured hand is still healing so I decided to stick to my word and do some easy duty for now. After good old Senior Eason joined my line, I showed them a map of Britannia and said I wanted to visit a certain place - a tower in water!

We ventured forth to New Haven, where I've sent Aldwin and Eason to talk with some locals, while I spoke to the local shipwright about buying a nutshell to sail the oceans. Lucky for me, the carpenter had one ready for sale and we exchanged goods, while the other two tried to help some kind of drow / elf hybrid finding his lost friend.
If you ask me, that guy was just drunk and imagining his friend...

Once we boarded our new ship, the Elizabeth, we set sail south-west to this stone tower in the water, only to get mildly disappointed by it... While the two men had fun and seemed to enjoy the cruise, I was more interested in what secrets and places we might find!

We continued to sail the southern islands, first starting with as Senior Eason called it: Mongbat Isle. A bunch of nasty wildlife on it and an old man in solitude, who seemed to had been sniffing on too much serpent venom.

Our next stop was just a little south, a place I did not want to find. It was where the Arcanists did open a portal to get Ilyana from another shard something completely normal and nothing like wytchcraft! Eason raised his eyebrow in suspicion, but there was nothing to worry about. Not at all. No. All good!

Our last stop on this cruise was the island of Valoria where we visited the shrine of Valor, which was infested with serpents!
On our way back to the ship, I've seen that it had hit a leak and was about to sink! Eason cut some wood while Aldwin repaired the damaged spots. And I wasn't completely lazy as well! I took a bucket and started to hurl the water inside the boat out.

With a bit of effort we managed to sail over to Jhelom from where we used the moongate to return home.

We returned home safely, although some mindless deadites still roamed the area. A successful trip on water where we discovered many fine locations for eventual colonies! Except the island next to Mongbat Isle. This one should be avoided at all cost. Indeed!
