Patrol of Cove, The Grave Yard, and Altmere

Being the only two in the barracks, who weren't fast asleep, I took Perrin out on a patrol of Cove, the Grave Yard, and then to Altmere. Nothing to report except an ogre or two, which were quickly defeated.

I suppose I owe someone an ale, or five crowns now. I said "I won't be picking up a bow again". Hah - I was wrong!

Soon after finishing the search for Ginger, as ordered by Odenetheus, I asked Erik if he would step aside and speak to me, alone. I quickly got to the point, stating that I'd love to learn the ways of the bow further, and that I also wish to join his Archer Association.

He was delighted to hear this, and took me to the meeting room. It was here that he began to talk further with me, also being quick to point out he could tell untill the last eve, I had never held a bow in my life. He was quite right to think so. Though, I suppose a little dissapointed, he said it mattered non the less and told me to go about the first task for him - acquiring a ranged weapon.



Erik told me to find a Repeating Crossbow from a man in Britain, as well as telling me to listen to the owner's words, and learn from him.

I found him swiftly, in his shop, and asked him to teach me in the ways of archery, not to mention getting a weapon and some bolts. Can't forget the bolts, I do say! No good using it as a club, I might aswell be an ogre!

It wasn't too long (okay, so a LOT of misses) before I learnt to successfully hit the stationary target he set up for me. Though some practise is still needed!



At any rate, I can safely say: I look forward to shooting a Yewish man near you soon!

The training started off fairly simple. Senior Erik asked who is "most like to shoot the ir own foot off then shoot the enemy", most saying they'd shoot their foot!

Afterwards, he told us about the crossbow, before shoving one into our hands. Also explaining further that, we might even progress to shooting our hands as we become better with the weapon, rather than our foot.

Senior Arkay then asked those who were present "what is the most dangerous weapon?". A lot of replies came to that, I suggested a Yewish man (they smell horrible!), but Senior Arkay stated all answers were wrong. Though, Kelly's answer of the sash was deemed close by Erik. After much guess work, He finally gave his answer "A Covian wielding a Crossbow" - I'd rather go with a well crafter blade myself though.

After informing us that we were to wield the most powerful weapon, he then moved to tell us, we should treat our crossbows like we would treat our woman (Which lead to telling everyone about carressing the weapon).
His next point was that, thinking of it in such a way is not enough, we must name it like our wenches are named.

There was a large range of names, going from Boris (Kelly's choice) to Poo II (Dalamar's choice) up to Floorina (my own choice). Seniore Arkay wasn't too impressed with Dal's naming, and he though mine was rather odd, though not as odd as the final name, "Ryan". Chosen ofcourse by our very own Regular Grenadier Gimbly. Arkay seemed a bit dismayed by this choice, stating that Ryan is not a woman, but he still allowed it.

Now we had covered that section, it was time to actually take aim with our new weapons. We were given the order to take aim, some aiming at Erik himself (Accidentally, I should hope) others at rocks that were in the arena.
We were told to "become our target". This was all good in theory, but a few rebelled to act like a filthy Yewish man, as well as one recruit becoming a rock, causing him to forget how to breathe.

Having pleased Senior Arkay, he now deemed us fit to utter his AA chant. It went some thing like: "This is my Crossbow! This is my gun! This is for fighting! And this is for fun!". With that fresh in everyone's mind we were made to parade back and forth repeating the AA chant. Some grumbled, others went straight ahead with it. Never the less, it was completed as asked!

Finally, to round everything up, he called a free for all. This would have been superb, if only he had actually supplied ammunition. Those already with bolts were at a high advantage, shooting us all down to size, whilst the rest had to use the bow as a club.

Battered, and bruised, with bows sticking out of our armour, Senior Arkay called a dismissal. Though, first, he talked about his Archer Guild and progressing through it.
I can't say, myself, I'll be taking up a new profession it was interesting to learn the ways of the Cross bow.

Right, I thought i' was 'bout time t' end this gruellin' task once an' fer all. We can nay 'ave meh watchman ferever now can we? *Grins*

I gathered a few men outside the barracks t' 'elp meh an' lined 'em up before tellin' 'em where off on a patrol o' tha shire.


We walked passed tha grave yard an' cleared a few out for we can nay 'ave these thin's terrorisin' citizens. Bah, so ugly an' so easy t' kill. We made short work o' 'em


We walked further past tha grave yard an' then up t' tha road. Kas thought we needed some singin' so 'e let us 'ear some o' 'is "talent". Tha was a bad day fer ears.


I reached tha road an' looked 'round an' nay matter wha' anyone tells yer, I never got lost. I jus' 'ad a wrong map *Nods*. So i borrowed one o' tha mens maps an' we were back on track.


We walked along tha road an' were greeted by a party o' monsters, tha guardsmen formed on meh an' made 'it tha ground faster than you can say "I like t' eat pies!"


I ordered tha men back t' tha backs on a forced march. I applauded 'em on thar work an' gave 'em a short speech before dismissin' 'em.

Nay anythin' t' report tha was suspicious, but may I suggest stayin' way from Kas when 'e sings.. or yer ears will 'ave an unfortunate time.

After tha' breather tha men (and women) 'ad, they were up an' ready t' get on with some combat trainin'. Wha' better way t' train combat than attack an' defend situations? I asked fer volunteers t' lead tha teams, only a few 'ands went up. I picked Watchmen Edumund Rufus an' dalamar t' lead. I gave Edmund's team a shade o' blue robe an' Dal's team a shade o' brown robe. I asked 'em fer team names an' Kas shouted out team "Booyah!" fer Dal's side. O'course sicne were tha best lookin' side we 'ad t' call our selfs team 'andsome.

First t' attack was Dal's team. I gave them the 'orn signal an' they were on thar way, marchin' t'wards us. They put up a good fight but they were quickly pushed back by the force o' Edmund's team. Most probably 'cause I was on i' *Grins*.

Next i' was our turn t' attack tha strong'old. We waited fer tha sound o' tha 'orn from Kas. an' then we waited some more, an' then some more. They took too long I do say.. Anyway, tha 'orn did come eventually. We slowly marched in our tight formation, edgin' closer t' tha strong'old. Again they put up a good fight, but were nay match fer Team Handsome. We sustained a few blows, includin' meh self when I was knocked unconcious.

I gathered tha tired guards an' sent 'em up stairs t' beh dismissed. Very good work from all o' 'em. Like I said Cove should beh proud o' 'em.

Right! Les' see if we can get these pie eaters fine guards int' shape! I thought we should start with an equipment check so I ordered fer light sources, bedrolls an' bandages t' beh taken out an' shown t' meh. They all 'ad thar thin's except fer Vince who forgot 'is bedroll. I asked 'im where i' was an' 'e said tha wolfs got i'. I sighed an' said yer nay much o' an example t' tha lower ranks, an' shook meh 'ead slowly.

Next came tha orders. I shouted out a whole lot o' orders an' they were followed precisely, even by tha recruits. Cove should beh proud t' 'ave such a fightin' force at i's ready. jus' send 'em Yewish this I say, we'll 'ave 'em in nay time *Nods*.

Right now i' was time fer tha free for all as I decided nay t' bother with 'em push ups, which I now regret 'cause alot o' 'em needed i' badly an' I mean badly.
I looked 'round tha top o' tha strong'old an' then I looked t' tha numbers. thar jus' nay enough room, so I came up with a cunnin' idea. A free fer all through out tha stong'old! This was a most intense fight, arrows flyin' everywhere, barely missin' tha furniture. Swords singin' an' breakin' tha vases. An' nay forget Kas' magic. When tha dust settled I' was 'ard t' tell who tha winner was, so I'm sorry t' tha winner, did nay get a glimpse o' yer face.


I asked 'em if the wanted t' do part two o' tha trainin' an' they all said aye, most eagerly. I let 'em 'ave a breather an' then we would get t' bussiness.

I sat 'round tha barracks lookin' fer somethin' t' do when I noticed tha' I still 'ad money t' collect fer tha coffers. I looked fer some guardsman t' take on a hunt with meh but no one was t' beh found.

I ran t' despise an' fought many a foes, includin' giant walkin' lizards, tha two 'eaded thin's an' 'em movin' rocks. They fell t' meh sword one by one, 'ittin' tha ground 'arder each time.


I took all their riches includin' coins an' jewels, which i sold t' tha store fer coins. Nay injuries sustained an' I think next time I do go thar, tha' all 'em monsters'll beh cryin' fer thar mothers.

We patrolled inside tha gates o' Cove t' start of with, so tha we could kill all tha rats an' make sure we nay 'ave a nasty plague again. Meh an' Sal then 'eaded up t' tha Altmere outpost an' then further up t' tha crossroads. along tha way kill some ugly, ugly monsters an' also found a heap o' bandages!



We collected a good amount o' gold tha' came up t' two thousand two hundred an' ninety three gold crowns. Also we picked up a huge amount o' bandages, one thousand six 'undred t' beh precise.
