4  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Fadding on: September 03, 2009, 12:29:45 am
His vision faded quickly as he and the lectern he clutched toppled over. From some place in the darkness a dark malice filled laugh issued. He lay there on the cold floor of the church starring up at a mural of the birth of Avatar.

"Forgive me Father for I hath sinned! As I doth lie here about to die I realize I am indeed deathly afraid of yonder abyss. I beseech ye Almighty hear my prayers and know I am truly sorry for my sins!"

And so Vandrik  died, in a pool of his own blood. It was not a hero's death, and he had been little more than a Squire but he had served Higher Being. Most important of all he died with an act of contrition on his lips, he died with a smile as the gates of paradise opened before him. He was home.

13  Element boards / The Church / {Report} Investigating Reports of Guardian Worship on: March 16, 2009, 10:43:00 am
*Friar Vandrik, after penning his letter to The Grand Master in Britain; imploring aid, picked up a recent report.*

"What word doth these Mercenary gather? Hrmm let see here. They doth report of 'monks'. No word hath reached me of any missionary work to be done here. Certainly some notice would have come before them. . ."

*He read over the reports, mostly notes and wild ramblings of the injured. A few hospital records; those proved most useful. He read the details of the injuries and whom they concerned.*

"So this female Keres and the elfling hath both been in the hands of these  'monks'. Yet they survive where others do not. Tis certain guardian worshipers hath done harm to them.  I dare wonder what price they paid for their miserable and worthless lives. Their very souls I do not doubt. What deeds mights they commit in the name of the abomination? Higher Being's Lights, they must be questioned, and if need be. . .  Destroyed."

*The Friar soon stood and hefting his crossbow over his shoulder set off into the wood in search of this alter that his reports spoke of. It was not long before he came upon a ruins, dark and grimy. They would appear unused for all but the aware observer. That grime was char, and that mould was old blood. The smell. . . the smell was death, not some animal den and no dwelling of living man. The crusades had tough him the smell of death, and they had removed all fear of mortal men. Only Higher Being could permanently harm him now, not even a liche could have his soul, for it was Higher Being's. Aumen. He lifted his crossbow and slowly crept up to a corner of the ruins. The smell was stronger now. His heart quickened slightly as he took a calming breath. A whispered prayer and around the corner he swung, his weapon leading.

Nothing. No one, and no thing was there. The signs were obvious. The alter was blood smeared and charred of fire. Scraps of torn clothes lay in the corners, the corpses of dead animals, victims of some fell ritual no doubt, also littered the ground. The place had an eerie presence, one which chilled him to his bones and he dared not go any closer to the alter.*

"Per Deus lux lucis , vestri fatum est nox noctis."

*He prayed the Grand Master would send help soon. He and these mercenary would not be equipped enough to handle this foe.*

Friar Vandrik Inspects the Altar.

14  Element boards / The Church / Re: Letter to the Church on: March 02, 2009, 09:33:04 am
*Friar Vandrik approached the strange fortress now on the site of the preceptory he had left so many months ago. The blueish stones reminded him strongly of the church at Stonekeep. He ran a mailed hand along one wall until he had reached the portcullis, on a hunch he took out his old key and put it to the lock. He was soon rewarded with the click of tumblers falling into place. He gave a weary grin; he would sleep on a real bed this night, thank Higher Being he had survived to do so. He moved about the place warily thrusting his torch into the rooms before him. It seemed empty, nearly deserted; yet the smell was not of old stones and mold. Had the Templi abandoned their post, Higher Being forbid such sin! After some wandering, upon intelect alone he discovered the small nearly minuscule prayer room. He dropped upon his knees in this place and gave his thanks to Higher Being. He had survived, he had done Higher Beings Will, his purposes where fullfilled. His prayers would last late into the sanguine night until he would stir a message in his ears. The message of Higher Being; If the Templi were gone, Cove would need his guidance until help might arrive. He must see that the Church still stood and seek out the Clergy.

He stood quickly and slamming the portcullis behind him; trudged quickly off to Cove with sword in hand. He marched past the buildings of Cove, familiar yet foreign. He soon reached the Church. His sigh of relief was quite audible as he looked upon the stone edifice, unmarred and standing after his long absence. He went to the door and pushed his way inside. The candles where unlit and nothing stirred within. It was as he had feared, the Templi had fled or where quite dead and their Clergy with them. This Church had not been tended in some time, no hymnals sung, no sermons read. . .  Higher Being would not be pleased. He stepped within and started as he stepped in mud, the sound and texture surprising him greatly. He looks to the floor, illuminated only by moonlight and saw that it where tracks; tracks leading up to a decrepit message board. He struck tender to a nearby candle and read the message. His eyes narrowing and the grip on his sword tightening. He would have to speak with this Mercenaries leader. Mercenaries? How far had Cove fallen into sin and heathenism? What blasphemes and dark rituals where now practiced in their fields and behind their doors. How many children had gone unbaptised? A talk he would have indeed with whom ever lead this ragtag band of brutes, these mercenaries calling themself "The Company." *
15  In Character Boards / In Character Board / [REPORT] Cleansing Covetous. on: December 06, 2008, 01:53:25 pm
This eve the following faithful hath attempted to cleanse Covetous:

Guardsman Nicholi Ravnthorn
Guardsman Takeamada

Promptly on the hour I didst  ring the barracks bell. The turn out was less than spectacular with only Guardsman Ravnthorn making a prudent show. He soon trotted to the bank. No doubt to recover some important equipment. Whist he was away Guardsman Takeamada arrived. They both quickly mustered and off we trotted to the gapping maw of Covetous.  Upon arrival I ordered the men to bear torches. Ravnthorn carries no light source, either he has some wytch craft about him or he sucks back the black brew. Both shall eventually kill him. Guardsman Takeamada being a marksman of course carried no other weapon and was unable to bear a torch. I passed my torch on to Ravnthorn amidst his general complaint about not having a shield. I would later suffer the thinly consealed insults of Guardsman Takeamada as he compared myself with Guardsman Ravnthorn and the fact that I bore my shield before me. No matter.

We quickly laid waste to the harpy nest within plucking them for feathers and scooping up handfulls of coins as we went.  Turning the bend we came upon those vile, floating, bulbous, foul, wretched, wytchery-spitting, multi-eyed heads! With faith and steel we vanquished them and quickly pushed our way through their nest. The next denizen of this dungeon are those animated vines that whip their vines about at passersby. They posed little threat and we continued on into the mountain pass.

Once outside we discovered some restless soul which spoke in a means coherent. It was apparent this spirit shall need exorcism. With nothing to be done for this lost soul we continued through the pass and into the further reaches of the cave. Within we came upon more of the same as we did inside the other cave.

The monotiny of the task soon lulled our senses and it was that we were taken by surprise by some giant spider possessed of the ability to launch wytchcraft at us. Accompanying this threat where mighty water elementals mockery of hyrdros! These beasts came upon us in a furry but valiantly we fought.  Fight as we might we found ourselves being thrown against walls and knocked to the floor nearly out of our senses. It was obvious that I was vain and prideful in thinking I might succeed with so few men behind me. Higher Being as punished for my transgressions and thus we return to Cove inglorious and defeated.

On a lighter note, we collected 9,381 gold coins.
Guardsman Takeamada donated 1,000 coins to the coffers.
4 thousand coins to the army coffers and 4 thousand for The Church.

We shall do better next time, and bring glory to Higher Being!

In Avatar's name!

Aumen.
