106  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Re: Patrol Rota ~ Calling all Guardsmen/women. on: September 28, 2007, 12:53:54 pm
I'll patrol the Shire Ma'am on Monday at 7pm.

JT - John Trent, Guardsman Recruit.
107  In Character Boards / Character Profiles / Jon Trent on: September 27, 2007, 12:59:10 pm
Name: "JT" Jon Trent. Also known as "Morambath" (panther) to the elf kind.
Race: Human
Age: 23
Height: 6ft
Build: Lithe muscle.
Hair: Dark Brown
Eye: Green
Home Town: Skara Brae
Occupation/Class: Woodsman/Ranger/Archer

Personality: JT, like many of the land's woodsmen, prefers to keep himself to himself. He is not fond of being the centre of attention or being around large groups of people. He prefers the solitude of the forests and shadows and the friendship of the few that he lets get to know him.  Trent has a keen mind, he doesn't say very much but when he does it is often worth the wait.

He often wears a scarf to cover his face. He's embarrassed by his boyish features but also wishes to keep his anonymity and blend into the undergrowth and shadows whenever he can. Dark green, swirling thorn-like tattoos cover his arms, shoulders and chest.

Background: JT was born in Skara Brae. His parents were quite old when he was born and a local Ranger named Martin SureFoot quickly took JT under his wing. Martin taught him the ways of a Ranger, stealth, swiftness, archery, tracking as well as the lore of the forests and animals therein, but JT also worked hard to learn the trade of a lumberjack, his father's profession.

Aged 16, JT along with Martin SureFoot joined the Royal Marksman Regiment as trackers. His parents now infirm JT needed the pay to keep them and it was a chance to see more of the world and learn a little from the elves that dwell around Trinsic. He earned the nickname "Morambath" or "panther" from them due to his swiftness of foot and with a bow along with his ability to blend into the shadows.

Trent saw some action with the Royal Marksman during skirmishes with the rebels, shortly before his mentor disappeared. No sight nor sound could be found of Martin, though rumours and whispers around the elven quarter of Trinsic had him falling foul of the Drow, causing JT to develop an intense dislike of the dark elves.

Not long after JT resigned from the Marksmen and returned home to Skara. Work was scarce though and after two years of endless toil JT decided to try and find work further afield, eventually finding his way to Cove.

Present Day: He never thought he would sign up for the army again, but it was the only way JT could earn enough to keep his parents looked after. The pay in Cove was good and he felt at home in the forests of the Shire and peaks of the surrounding mountains.

He served in the Covian army and also as a mercenary in The Company, during some bleak times, where Cove's harvests failed, the treasure empty and his own personal loss of his parents passing away. He served with distinction during the Vesper Civil War and he rejoined the Covian army when it was reformed, as he had little to go back to in either Skara or Trinsic.

Cove was his home now and even when many left for the colonies abroad, during another harsh time for the town, JT stayed in the shire, always in the shadows. Always watching, always waiting. For his fellows to return once more.
108  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Savage Attack on: September 24, 2007, 12:41:52 pm
Led by: Eve, Grenadier Corporal.

Attended by: JT - Jon Trent, Guardsman Recruit.

I met the Corporal at the barracks where she explained the reason behind so many of my fellow recruits disapperances. She also explained that as no-one else was around it was up to me and her to put a stop to it.

We headed out to Ilshenar and the savage settlement not far from the shrine of Compassion. We covered eachother as we made our way into the camp and started to clear the buildings one after another.

We discovered several corpses of prisoners taken captive by the savages, though we could not tell if they were Covians. We destroyed their crops and continued to exterminate the savage scum at every turn.

The explosions from the corn field heralded savage reinforcements so we started to make good our escape, but not before taking our revenge on the savage shamen.

We made our way safely from the savage camp, again covering eachother with our crossbows as we retreated. Me swapping to my axe when the fighting got close.

A victory for Cove.

We were gathered on the barracks rooftop by Senior Tiberius, me being the lone recruit, the rest of those assembled looked hardened and experienced.

Hardened and experienced though they were none would take the time to pen the report so I volunteered.

The training started off with basic drilling and formation orders, which i think were carried out to the drill masters satisfaction.

Next up was physical exercise. Laps and push up's in alternating groups before a brisk jog to Cove docks for a spot of swimming.

Now I tried to explain to the Senior that I could not swim but he decided to give me a crash course anyway. Grabbing me by the sash he hurled me into the water like I was a rag doll.

After I blustered about for a minute or so trying not to drown Tiberius hauled me back out so I could cough and wretch on the dockside.

Another brisk jog took us into the Glenmore mountains where rock climbing was order of the day. While my fellow guardsmen flapped and floundered on the rock face I climbed nimbly and swiftly to sit upon a ledge where I hummed a happy tune and looked down smugly on the rest.

After a while we were ordered back down and jogged back to the barracks where we had a free for all to finish off.

I did rather better than expected and lasted almost until the end but I was bashed from behind by a huge shield.

I think the chap with the big shield was last to stand but my head was a bit fuzzy so I may be wrong.
