Recruit Trial ~ Faden Wildheart.

Ahhh... Faden. Only recently returned to duty and yet you're in need of your trials already eh!?

Grand, grand. Let's see what you're made of.

Here are your trials...

* * * * *

Task One ~ Replenishing The Ranks.

The Company is in a constant state of renewal. Our fallen brethren and those who rise through the ranks such as you aspire to must be replaced by fresh recruits.

~ Place recruitment banners at all Trammel moongates as well as the portal to Heartwood. Also place banners at the portals in Ilshenar, Malas, Tokuno and the Badlands (Felucca).
~ You may do this in as many trips as you wish.
~ Post a full report below.

* * * * *

Task Two ~ Extreme Combat Conditions.

The Company is fast earning a reputation as a tough, disciplined fighting force in the Vesper Campaign. To test our combat abilities and the following of orders under pressure you will lead a 'naked' hunt to the dungeon Despise.

~ Your group may wear only their boots, kilts, shirts, sashes and helms/headgear.
~ You will do battle against ettins, elementals, trolls, ogres, ogre lords and if your party is tough enough cyclops and titans.
~ Attention to crosshealing and targetting is a must!
~ Fight until your packs are full, then return to barracks. Half the loot to the coffers and half shared between your party.
~ At least 2 other mercs must accompany you on this mission.
~ Post a full report below.

* * * * *

Task Three ~ Survival Training.

Lead an expedition to the frozen wastes of the Lost Lands. Set up a base camp and carry out activities to keep your party alive.

~ Take tools along to forage for the materials you need to construct a base camp.
~ Secure the surrounding area and keep your party from freezing to death. Warm food and exercise should do the trick.
~ At least 2 other mercs must accompany you on this mission.
~ Post a full report below.

Good luck Faden.

Task Two ~ Extreme Combat Conditions

Lead by:
Faden Wildheart

Attended by:
Torrak Keres
Raven

Faden knew that going into a dungeon half naked would be a formidable task so he decided to complete this one first.
After rallying Keres and Raven at the barracks and after a few complaints about stripping down to their kilts the men were ready to begin their challenge. They walked magically travelled to the dark, cold dungeon known as Despise where known ettins, ogre lords and titan roam.

Once the three brave warriors had gathered the courage to enter the dungeon they were swiftly greeted by many ettins. These foul creatures around 12 feet tall were no match for the skilled mercenaries, a bash with Kere's mace, a bolt from Faden and Raven's crossbows... each quickly fell with an all mighty crash.

The warriors needed an opponent which matched their level of skill. They went in search of Ogre Lords, foul fat ugly creatures who eat people when ever they get the chance. Faden had encountered these before and remembered the terrible horrors he once faced. Soon they found the lair, the air was stale and the bones of previous warriors covered the ground. A tactic was quickly deployed which evolved putting out the torches and the three mercenaries equipped their mighty bows, whilst running around the Ogre with haste. After a fair amount of time they managed to take down the beast and the bounty was plentiful.

After clearing the Ogre lair, they set off to find some Titans. Titans are magical giants whom scare even the strongest of warriors. It was not long until the trio encountered their first Titan, a giant covered in shiny armour sparkling with orbs of magic. On occasions each mercenary was knocked down but quickly picked up by their fellow warrior and the giant was slain.

They came upon a crystal ball which looked strangely like something Faden has seen in a vision, Keres was unsure what it was and decided it throw his face at it, it did not even scratch.

A little while later the three came across some green elementals which fired balls of fire and poison. They were no match for the trained warriors.

They filled their bags and pockets until they could barely move and decided to get back to Cove. A grand total of over thirty thousand coins was collected, fifteen thousand were put into the coffers and the rest was distributed evenly amongst the toughened warriors.

Healing and battle training ensured the warriors stayed together, healed each other efficiently and kept each other alive. It shows that armour is not everything when the best armour you have, is the guy standing on your left and right. This is a true display of how the company operates, not as a single individual but as combined force worth more than gold.

Task Three ~ Survival Training

Lead by:
Faden Wildheart

Day 1 - Attended by:
Torrak Keres
Raven
Hoagie

Day 2 - Attended by:
Torrak Keres
Raven
Perrin
Kaitlin

Day 1 - Preparing for the task

Faden knew this task was going to be a large challenge. He gathered as many warriors as he could and planned to set off to the Lost Lands. Faden quickly learned he has not planned this task very well, firstly he did not have a rune to the Lost Lands and he did not know how to get there. A stranger in white appeared and offered a gate to Trinsic, where a cave led the three warriors to the Lost Lands. After looking around the near by fields they found many sheep, goats, cows and bears. Hoagie quickly started abusing the animals. Frankly this scared the other mercenaries. Soon it turned to carnage, the goats, cows, sheep and bears were slaughtered for their hides and meat. Their hides would be used to create warm cloaks and used as insulation in the camps walls. The meat would be cooked to keep the mercenaries fed. The supplies were gathered so they headed back to the barracks to count their resources.

Day 2 - Surviving the wilderness

Day two was the real challenge. A group of fearless warriors were rounded up and told they were going to endure their greatest task yet, a trip to the freezing cold waste lands in the Lost Lands. The Keres, a man with skin as thick as steel and some say he eats baby ice elementals on his cereal, mentioned he was from a cold place so he would be at home.

Faden had scouted a way to the Lost Lands the night before, through the crypts found in Vesper graveyard. These dark crypts are cold and damp but it is quite short to the Lost Lands. It is believed that these tunnels were used in a previous Vesper evacuation but the warriors wern't too sure if they made it.

They quickly travelled through the Lost Lands using a map which Faden had created:

Upon reaching the cliff face Faden searched the area but there was no boats to borrow. (OOC: You can't place boats in T2A, dammit!) They ended up travelling through Ice Dungeon which is a very small journey.

A camp was quickly established consisting of hides and creates. The camp quickly became under attack from Polar Bears, Walruses and Ice Serpents. Keres managed to keep the fire alight and meat was cooked. Faden had brought along music instruments to keep the mercenaries entertained. The noise scared away the wildlife, protecting the camp for awhile.

Faden instructed the warriors to get there face into the snow and give him 10 push ups, he explained they had to keep warm to stay alive.

Shortly after training the mercenaries headed off east clearing all the animals along the way. Perrin managed to get tangled in the trees and bitten by something fury (his flees?) and it wasn't Faden. After reaching the far east mountain they about turned and travelled back to Cove.

Overall this has been an excellent training exercise. Covian warriors should be trained to work in all situations weather hot or cold. Who knows when we'll be commissioned to fight for some Lord in a far away cold place.

Four thousand for the coffers, Perrin donated his One thousand share totalling Five thousand added to the coffers.

Task One ~ Replenishing The Ranks

I travelled far today, placing banners and speaking to local town folk. A few were interested in joining and would seek out Cove. I left leaflets at each moongate. I did not leave any banners at Chaos just in case the monsters they followed us to Cove. However I did take a quick sketch.

And the terrible Badlands...
