Boss,

I have a confession to make.  As you recall, I was given a week to give the Morana child a mild poison, to induce an indigestion that would keep Railen and the Commander awake at nights and fatigued during the days, thusly impaired in their duties and too occupied to interfere in our affairs.  The 'departures' of Lacrima and "Kelban" made this impractical.  Had either of these two gone to the Commander, then any ailments the child suffered would mark us immediately.  So I concocted another plan.

I made contact with an old acquaintance who works under the name of Cowl.  I explained the situation to this Cowl and paid him to make contact with Railen or the Commander.  He failed until tonight to meet Railen.  However, at the end of that first week, he had a letter delivered to the Commander, claiming that the child was at risk.  The letter claimed that a man by the name of Smith sought to kill the child and that in order to save the child, I (unnamed of course) had volunteered to make the child ill instead.  I urged the Commander to convince his wife to publically request a healer to attend to the child, creating the impression I had indeed poisoned it.  I mentioned no one by name other than Smith.

This evening, I finally made contact with Railen, incognito.  I delivered the same warning, pretending to be Cowl, however Railen assured me that her and her husband were well aware of the threat and that Kiran was behind it.   Dismayed that we were thusly undone, I improvised a new story, that Cowl's employer (me, unnamed) worked for you but that you had instructed me to take steps to save the child, that your interest in harming the child was an order by Smith.  Indeed, once it was clear your involvement in this matter was already well-known to the Moranas, I painted a picture that you're under the control of this Smith and this was the only way to save the child.  I also warned her that Smith may grow impatient and send his own people to kill the child, or indeed her.  Hopefully, I have hopefully created the impression that with you and your people out of the way, Smith can move his own people in.

I was forced to reveal more than I wished, including more truth than I was comfortable with, however it seems we have been sold out well and truly.  Had we made a move on the child, we would be dead, imprisoned or on the run by now.

My humble suggestions are:

All the brothers and sisters, if questioned in relation to this, state that Kiran only ordered the attack on the child to convince a new member who at that time we suspected was an agent of Smith's.  After Lacrima and Kelban's exit, and after the exit of this possible agent, Kiran instructed the 'poisoner' to warn the Moranas about the threat anonymously.  That if Smith discovered this, he would kill us and the child.

Further, all brothers and sisters should state that this was well-known to them and that a letter was written to the Commander by a person named Cowl.  This should, I pray, give them doubts that any of us had a genuine desire to hurt the child, that in fact the meeting was a sham to convince a possible agent of Smith's that we intended to carry out his order to inconvenience the child.  Should they ask about the 'agent' (Kadere), we can simply state we are convinced that the man in question wasn't in fact working for Smith.

It may of course be that neither Kelban or Lacrima told Railen and the Commander, that in fact we have another spy in our midst.

I hope my initiative has not displeased you overly, it seemed a prudent way of saving our necks if Kelban or Lacrima decided to tattle.  Cowl's letter was sent some time ago, so they cannot accuse us of cooking up this desire to protect the child only now.  Cowl is unaware of anyone's involvement other than my own.  His letter named none save Smith.  With luck, the Commander's ire will fall on this Smith.  If we ever find his headquarters.

Boss,

I've prepared two posters and distributed them beneath Brother Maccen's.  The first is in support of Aliryl, hinting at her support and involvement in the elf rebellion.  The second is in defiance of her.

At last!

The Elven Liberation Front has a Champion!  All hail Scout Corporal Aliryl Trefenwyd and her bold strike against the elf-hating Baron Octiovus and his vile band of thuggish taxmen!  Already she has had one taxman named, shamed and cast out!  Death to Olchafa "Miller's bane" Serpernt!  Death to Octiovus "Elf-Crusher" Von Richter!  Down with the Church!  Equality for elves!  Arise and join us, arcanist brothers!  No more taxes!  Mourn for King Casca!  Trefenwyd leads and the E.L.F follows!

An elf of the E.L.F

*Second poster*

Von Richter for Victory!  Death and damnation to the elves.  Arise, all good Avatar-fearing men and women, and stand firm against this elven rebellion against lawful taxes.  The elves have taken over the Light Company, throwing out good, honest men in favour of sneaking, deceitful elves.  What do they need large, pointed ears for anyway?  Why, to spy on you and yours!

Do you think you're alone, talking with your wife?  You're not.  Elven eyes and elven ears are watching and listening to all.  Skulking Guardian-spawned faeries looking to steal your hard-earned shillings.  But be not of faint heart, for...

Fathers,

A Grenadier, Officer Cadet Darek Milako of the Church Guardsmen, spoke with me last night.  He spoke of a wytch hunter by the name of Kadere.  It seems my brother wytch hunter was accused of breaking into a home and assaulting someone in a manner suggestive of lustful desires.  Church Guardsman Milako also mentioned that this Kadere works for Kiran and that he may be committing other acts of evil on the orders of this Kiran.  Church Guardsman Milako suspects this Kadere is using the church as a 'front' to make himself look like a 'good man' to hide his activities on behalf of the Guardian.

I await your instructions on this matter.

In Faith,

Guy de Villaret

40  Element boards / Citizen Board / Tavern Night the Third on: October 04, 2009, 02:29:54 am
Master Edward and Mistress Railen,

Freshly enrolled in my new position as Director of Entertainment, I hosted a tavern night.  At first, it was a failure.  No one turned up.  A few hours later and there was a small crowd so I resurrected it.  The quiz was first, with three Guardsmen getting a woeful 4 out of 11 points.  A few tie breakers soon saw Cadet Darek Milako win.

The dice proved unpopular at first, so I went straight to the knife throwing.  Then I managed to convince a few to enter the dicing.

Yours,

Kalam Ravenscar

*The Wanted Parchment is amended*

If caught, re-imprison the heretic.  Shackle her and gag her.  Tell no one but the Church and the Commander of her capture.  A suitable prison shalleth be devised.

Kal ShadowHand, Officer Cadet
Thomas Aylmer, Junior Arcanist
Larinya Angala, Guardsman Recruit
Rita Whalebiter, Junior Guardsman
Ruby Whalebiter, Watchman

My Lord Bishop,

I led a patrol of Guardsmen to the orc fort with the intention of killing these guardian spawn.  We succeeded in slaying many, including two Brutes.  We recovered 18656 gold coins from the corpses and the Guardsmen piously agreed to donate this sum to the Church.  Most praiseworthy.  We had one wytch  arcanist present.  I must report he survived, alas.

45  OOC Boards / OOC Board / Re: (RTR) Army Discipline on: October 03, 2009, 08:39:30 pm
If this has caused offence, then I apologise.  This isn't singled at anyone in particular, this has been a persistant problem for some time now and is by no means an isolated event.  You can RP your characters as you wish.  But if the Army Command deem it unbecoming of a position or rank, then your characters can expect to hear about it.

I put this on the OOC board (and Announcements) so there is no confusion over it (which didn't quite work out).  Senior characters have been trying to instil a sense of discipline in-game for months with limited success so I'm not sure an IC post would prove more successful.
