Report:

We were stood about discussing the latest in Covian gossip when the Sergeant showed up and brought us all into a line. Apparently there had been disturbing reports up near Altmere of some deadite activity. I hadn't seen any personally, nothing major since Gar's passing, but I had heard there were sightings by other Covians. Just our luck really, for this to crop up so soon after we celebrate peace with Vesper.

We all force marched it to Altmere and started building our sentry. Yet another sentry this week, by this time my hatchet was looking ten years old but I only had it made a couple of weeks ago. The Captain joined us just as night fell, there was an ominous mood in the air, almost too quiet as we worked on our sentry. Where were the birds, the animals sounds? I heard a howl but it was no wolf howl.

Saerandir and I were out trying to gather hides when the first one struck. It was in a brown robe and leaped at me out of the dark, poisoned kryss at the fore. I quickly got in a lucky parry and a good return swipe with my broadsword. Upon hearing the noise Saerandir came running, at the sight of two of us the deadite hissed and ran off. We fell back to the sentry and formed up on the Sergeant.

Four more of the creatures came out of the night, chanting evil hymns. One had flames licking from their fingers, one hovered in the air on black wings. Finally their leader showed, mounted on some nightmarish steed, alone as tall as a man. As they approached I kneeled and lit my torch, holding it high and slotted it in the closest wall of the sentry. If we were to survive this night we would need the Avatar's light to drive back the darkness.

They came at us in waves, poison, magic and gargoyles all. After numerous attacks they backed off and gave us a moments respite. On the next wave they were joined by a huge red demon, controlled by their necromancer. But they met a wall of Covian steel, no soldier broke ranks and ran off, each kept the square and banished the demon back to the hell it came from. After the demon fell they relented and ran off in the direction of Cove town. We paused but a moment before chasing them down.

Cove town was chaos as we entered, the mounted deadite riding around chasing civilians. Again we formed up back to back in the centre of the square and again they came at us, wave after wave. This time they focused on Saerandir but we managed to keep the elf on his feet. This angered Ava and when the gargoyle came in for the next swoop she planted a war axe right in its eye socket.  Stunned, and unable to fly away, Covian steel plunged in from all angles and made sure it would not rise again.

The mounted leader heard the screams of the gargoyle and came in too close to help it. Someone reached up and pulled them off their nightmare steed and finally ended its chants. Once it was silenced the other deadites scarpered off into the night. Right on cue the sun rose over the horizon and Cove's night of horror was over. We dispersed in groups and did a final search of the town, but all trace of the deadites were gone.

Cove would stand another day. Tonight the deadites learned that brave Avatarian's watched over this land.

Report:

Recently a number of orcs and strange evil beings had been sighted within the borders of Cove.  As most of the regulars seemed to still be hungover from the Captain's stag night, Leanne thought it best to spend our afternoon securing the outer towers. The call went out for assistance and we were joined by Tingleith, an elven recruit and a helpful civilian. Leanne started the line up with one of her famous jokes, I forget exactly what it was about but it called Vesperians ugly so we all liked it.

The first destination was the Scouts Tower in Altmare. Ting and myself were sent to gather wood, Charas hides and the rest stayed behind to build the sentry. Once the sentry was built we were sent to secure the area from incoming monsters. We sought out a couple but that seemed to anger the sea and waves upon waves of elementals and sea serpents started attacking the sentry!

The sentry was well built and withstood the waves of enemies with ease. After this Leanne asked if Charas wanted to join the scouts and took her off for a 'Secret Meeting'. It seems every division apart from the main bloc has 'Secret Meetings', although someone pointed out maybe the main bloc has 'Secret Meetings' but they are just so secret they dont invite me to them...

Next we travelled down to the Arcanist Tower to the South. This was my first time visiting the tower, it was in quite a nice secluded area with no invading water elementals and serpents, so I could definitely see the appeal. This sentry building went much smoother with no interruptions. Apparently the arcanists complained however due to all the building noise this early in the morning, but it was past lunchtime!

Following this we went on a recruitment drive to New Haven and Luna. By the time we were finished the town was thoroughly plastered in banners and we even talked a potential arcanist into joining.

It was a productive afternoon! By the time we returned I think I heard one of the Senior Guardsmen waking from their slumber...

Name- Sheriam Palmer
Age- Twenty
Eye Color- Brown
Hair Color- Black
Race- Human
Place of Birth- Yew
Height- 5'4"

Appearance: Sheriam's dark hair is tied back in a smart ponytail. She has a soft face with no visible scars or marks but has the look of someone who has travelled a lot from an early age. While she usually has a kind look on her face, it takes on a grim determination when in battle or matters of faith are discussed. When out of uniform she is usually seen wearing an ankh necklace.

History: Sheriam was born in Yew to Joanna Palmer, a retired mercenary turned landowner. She still does not know the identity of her father. At age 16 took up with a wandering Knight Templar, Vlad, to train for entrance into the holy order. Sheriam travelled as a squire for four years, learning the ways of the paladin, training in both swordsmanship and the holy words. On their travels they sought out numerous demons and undead, upholding the virtues wherever they went. They often visited the old site of Templewood, where the history of the Knights Templar is held alongside with copies of the Oaths they took.

Sheriam does not remember exactly what happened, but nearly a year ago she was separated from her mentor while camping outside Despise dungeon. All she remembers is waking up with just her armour, sword, and holy book. For several months she roamed the lands, asking for Vlad's whereabouts but he had disappeared and she never found a trace.

After a time she ended up reuniting with a family friend, Ahmed Al Maktoum. However despite his taking her in she still seemed without direction as she was unable to find Vlad or any of the other Knights Templar. He suggested that she seek employment in the Baron's service in Cove, as they had treated him well over the years. Shortly afterwards she set out for Cove, wondering what awaited her in the remote coastal town.

Report [Written with a very shaky hand]

Not long after the First Covian Hamsmaster finished, Scout Leanne put the call out for some 'special training'. I was the first to show up for the assembled line to find Leanne wearing just her kilt, shirt and a fashionable 'hat'. She immediately informed me that I was over dressed for such an occasion and ordered all armour off! This didn't seem too out of the ordinary until my boots were ordered off also, then things started going down hill.

An older Grenadier called Hrothgar showed up also who I have not met before. He took the news of getting all his kit off better than I did so maybe this type of thing is normal in Cove and I'm just still learning. Leanne told us our destination - we were to attend cold weather training by hunting through Ice dungeon, wearing just our kilts and shirts. After all these Nujelm fights in the heat this would be quite the shock. We even dragged along a poor unsuspecting civilian with us.

Corporal Pickles took us to Ice dungeon after some convincing, I think she shared some of my reservations. Once inside she suggested we stick to the path, as beyond that was most definitely very very very cold ice. At one point we found some huge pillars of ice just off the main path. Leanne immediately went over and hugged one of them, inviting us all to do the same. I think only the untrusted followed suit - the rest of us stayed on the relatively 'warm' path.

Following this we went deeper into the dungeon. We came across some white dragons which I had never seen before. We did manage to bring them down without armour although the untrusted took a blow to the head. Eventually we came to a bridge, before anyone said anything the untrusted jumped off into the cold, dark river. Thankfully for the rest of us Leanne only ordered we stick our feet in for a bit. I think if Miss Pickles hadn't been keeping us warm with her flame walls every now and then I would have not made it past this point.

The final act involved rolling around in the snow, just incase we had warmed up too much after putting our feet in the freezing river.

Thankfully then Miss Pickles put up another flame wall outside to dry us all off before bringing us back home. Regretfully I have been back in the infirmary an hour and I still cant feel my toes...

Around 11,000 gold was collected, all but the untrusted donated theirs to the coffers.

Recruitment Report:

When I first showed up at the barracks two of the local politicians were harassing a new recruit. Apparently he was nobility - but just about anyone seems to be calling themselves a Lord or a Lady these days!

After they were done and left the recruit alone they rushed away to some election going on in Yew. To no ones surprise Watchman Tingleith also bunked off recruitment duty to join them.

Leanne took us to New Haven first. There were a few potential recruits around, but we avoided the gargoyles.  Unfortunately we found the older areas of Old Haven and the Mine to be deserted.  Following this we moved on to set up a recruitment stall in Luna and Britain.

Luna was certainly busy and some of the local lunatics stopped by. They were eventually distracted though by the dragon - beetle - magic battle happening within the bank. I also discovered that Sergio was not appreciative of my terrible recruiting puns, everyone's a critic!

Tavern Night Report:

I arranged with Miss Carolin for food and drink to be provided for the evening held at the Cardinal Feather Inn. Then I put the word out to gather at the inn for eight and started working on some game ideas to make the evening interesting, and even bought a prize!

Once the time came some Greandiers started trickling in, some arrived before even I did! Miss Carolin put out a fine spread and enough booze to last an army a week. She helped also by laying out some dice and board games for people. Before long a whole host of people arrived, digging right into the food and booze. I even met another Eason, but no relation apparently. Some other lad turned up and apparently had a grudge against Tingleith, to no ones surprise, they started demanding things off each other and frankly im surprised her clothes stayed on all evening.

I was just about to start making preparations for the riddle game I had prepared when a fist fight broke out over something or other. Before  I knew it four people were involved and the tavern was in chaos. By the time that settled down people were demanding things from behind the bar so I had to step in as bartender. I quickly discovered that I dont know much about booze, apparently Skara wine isnt any good? Anyway, thankfully though Tingleith rescued me and attended the bar after that. At this point there was no chance we were going to be doing some of the games I had prepared so I gave her the prize as a thank you.

Shortly after that I recall being hit by a high speed pear, apparently out of a crossbow, and I'm afraid the rest of the night is a blur.

While it was mostly chaos I think most people enjoyed it ma'am.

Dear Miss Melior,

I wish to bring it to your attention that while out on the ships this evening at Vesper the Yew folk with us pointed out that one of their Waywatchers was in Vesper colours. They said it was the one who attacked and murdered a Covian Watchman, Gar, and had turned traitor.

I had a glance at the person of interest and have done a rough sketch of her appearance.

I hope the scouts find this information useful.

Centaur Hunting / Arrow Gathering:

During the week I had asked around for the best places to gather the required arrows for my duty. A couple of places came up but the best seemed to be hunting Centaurs at the Serpentine Passage in Ilshenar.

A line up assembled and we even invited two armoured civilians along. One, an elf, bowed out but Mischief kindly volunteered to help us on our hunt. She pointed out that were we were headed any of bad character might be targeted by 'pixies'. I did a check but it seems everyone in the line up was of good character, but of course in Cove!

Various people in the patrol got lost on the way there but after some back tracking we found them again, those jungles can be very disorientating. Following a map I had purchased of Ilshenar we travelled beyond the town of Mistas and into the valley beyond.  There we found some strange pixies, snake like dragons and the centaur we were after. To my surprise these beasts were holding between 60 and 80 arrows apiece! Just who were they planning on using all those arrows on? With the asembled squad we made quick work of the centaurs, and brought back a cool 1,300 arrows for the stores.

Given the speed at which we collected the arrows and our proximity to a dungeon I gave Watchman Sally the line for one of his patrols.

Hunt to Destard:

The task was very clear: 500 barbed leather, and that is no small amount! I asked around the barracks for ideas about where to get such a haul and Destard was the unanimous answer. Later that evening put the call out for a hunt for Destard and made sure all my gear was in good shape for a tough trip.

We were slightly delayed setting off, and for good reason! Two more recruits took on the badge this evening. One of them even joined us right away for hunting dragons.

An impressive line up gathered outside the barracks, both Covians and Yew folk arrived for the hunt. A large number of veterans showed up too so I was confident that if we all kept ranks and healing tight we would see the night through. We also had a good mix of mages, shields and archers to boot.

On the first level we encountered all sorts of drakes, dragons, wyverns and even some golden dragons. We also ran into some huge snakes! Thankfully I was able to hide behind the others when it came to the snakes though, I dont think anyone noticed. The hunt was very disciplined and we dispatched all who stood in our path. The dragons seemed to focus on Recruit Elliot but he held his ground bravely and we were all able to keep him on his feet - mostly. Still, he didn't let a little knock diminish his enthusiasm.

On the second level we encountered a large number of demons and shadow drakes. We did have a scary moment when I was carrying too much leather and could not keep up with the team! Everyone came back to dig me out of the pile of corpses we had felled though, thankfully.

On the third level we found the lair of the mighty ancient wyrm. We had a couple of scary moments and im sure Recruit Elliot was nearly swallowed whole! But like all others we faced in Destard we took the beast down and skinned their hides. We lost sight of Corporal Sanderson at one point as well, I think we may have left her somewhere but she soon returned to us. She said she fell in a ditch but she was probably single handedly slaying demons without us!

After clearing out the third level I ordered the hunt to return to the entrance and head for home, many thanks to Mrs Drachen for the gates back and forth, they saved us a whole load of time. I am glad to say that good discipline and the protection of the Avatar saw us all return safely back to Cove to count our loot.

30,807 Gold and 473 Barbed Leather was handed in to the treasury.

Running Recruits:

Corporal Sanderson had said we were all developing bad habits, too many tavern nights and feasts and not enough physical training!

I called a training for this evening but we had a little wait for the fourth person to arrive. Recruit Elliot tried his best and recruited a pet rabbit, but given the first task involved placing a wine bottle on your back I decided to stay waiting for a fourth 'human or equivalent size' attendee. Thankfully a Keres turned up and we were away!

First Task: Balance

This activity involved placing a bottle of wine on their backs as they performed ten push ups. Slow and steady wins the race! As elves are unfairly talented in this area I placed the bottle of wine on Sally's head instead of his back, just to make it even. Calin Keres put out a strong performance and won this one handily.

Second Task: Team Sprints

In this activity the guardsmen had to run to the edge of the barracks and back, then tag in their team mate for their lap. In this event the teams were very evenly matched and I had no choice but to declare a draw.

Third Task: Strategic Boxing

The teams were split into a runner and a boxer. The runner had to complete five laps from one edge of the arena to the other. The boxers were given five crates each and had to use them to try and get in the way of the runners. The runners were not allowed to touch the boxes, their team mate had to move them to let them out if they were trapped.

The runners were neck and neck until Sally realised he had counted from 1 to 3, missing number 2. Team Tingleith and Elliot ended up winning that event by a whole lap.

Fourth Task: Trap The 'Giant'

In this task both members of the team were able to use their coloured boxes. I humbly took on the role of 'Large Stompy Giant' who would slowly walk around the arena. The teams had to place boxes around the 'Large Stompy Giant' untill they could no longer move. The team that placed the last box would win.

It did not take long until the arena was largely covered in boxes. When the 'Large Stompy Giant' was very close to escaping the red team managed to close off the exit and win the round.

In the end Calin Keres had won enough points and won a stunning bundle of flowers!

I could tell everyone wanted to have a final rumble so we finished off with a free for all, which Calin Keres also won. It was a good day for the Grenadiers.

After we were done I informed everyone that this was all just a warm up and we would shortly be departing for a Destard hunt for some dragons. Strangely enough only Recruit Elliot was still around for said hunt!

Team Morana Report!

Attending:
Commander Raiden Morana
Watchman Saerandir
Watchman Sheriam Palmer

Corporal Sanderson got us all in a line and had some well thought out tasks for us to 'take care of Cove'.

Ilyana Duty

For the first duty we were to take care of Miss Drachen who was still tied up in the Church foregrounds. One of us was tasked with water, the other tend to her wounds and one to give her some food. She seemed to really appreciate the help but after all the attention was very tired and we left her in peace.

Resources Duty

For the second duty we were to collect some resources of any nature. We discussed as a team and thought it would be more interesting to go bash some orcs and take their resources.

While we were there though we did run a large group of strange 'monks for peace'. Captain Morana scared them all off though and they ran for the hills.

Cleaning Duty

For the third duty we were to clean up in the Town Hall. I started off dusting the downstairs and slowly worked upwards. There was a grand buffet on display but some of it seemed to be missing??

Corporal Sanderson joined us to celebrate the Captain's Betrothal, I think he seemed to enjoy the attention but ran off to do some cleaning on his own.

Sentry Duty

For the last duty we were to build and man a sentry at Cove Bank. Myself and the Captain chopped the wood and gathered some skins. Sally did all the hard work though by making the crates and putting the wall together.

Escort Duty

Earlier this week I took a quiet opportunity to help some of those pestering locals over in Cove Town. Apparently they all wanted to go someplace that wasnt here, whats wrong with Cove I say?!

The first was to Minoc, some peasant lady who had never even heard of the Avatar?? I made sure to take the left turn at the Vesper crossroads.

The second was to Trinsic, I took the noble through Britain and it was a relatively quiet journey.

The third was to Yew. A much busier route up through the mountains this time. We passed through Stonekeep but the guardsman I saw there seemed to be sleeping on duty.

The fourth was to Minoc again. Some sort of bride in a wedding dress! I asked her if she was going to a wedding but she gave me silence in reply.

The fifth was to Britain. We encountered some lizard men type creatures right on the British border, those guards obviously are slacking on duty I say.

2,500 gold were given to the treasury.
