Serj came off the stage completely infused. His performance as Barry in ‘The Rage of Raaz’ had been absorbed by the audience. Roses were being thrown forward as the cheers beckoned an encore from the cast. Serj took a deep breath and was about to step back into the limelight when he was stopped by his director.
“No. Always leave them wanting more,” voiced Hoagie Grayner. Serj nodded, somewhat disappointed but also considerate of Hoagie’s wisdom. He returned to the nearby dressing room on a high.
Weeks passed. Hoagie had not written another piece of drama and the fabulous ‘Hoagie Theatrics’ had become a distant memory to the people of Cove. One eve, Serj approached Hoagie to have a frank discussion.
“When will we return to the stage? Our fans demand another performance!” Hoagie shrugged at Serj.
“Look around. Trade is down. Guardsmen aren’t showing up for duty. Sorry, kid. My focus is elsewhere at the moment.” Hoagie spoke genuinely, but his tone did not appease the young bard.
“Commander. Now is the time.. when we must look to the arts more than ever to provide an outlet for our people! A lack of prosperity should not be reason for the lack of culture in our community. We must produce art!” Serj tightened his fists as he became overwhelmed with this concern.
“You’re a good kid, Serj. But not now..” Hoagie spoke solemnly, and then walked away. Serj shook his head.
“Art is our hope.” He said to himself.Serj Eason
