It was a good session and I'm extremely proud of the recruits who attended. They all trained well and took the lessons to heart. All three of them will show us great things in the future!

Good report and thank for not mentioning how nervous I was!
Just to clear it up though, I offered a Parade Drill, not a Cadre.

It is part of your duty to list all the guardsmen present in your report Recruit.

I was there and took part in the sentry.

124  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Hides for Sunset on: May 28, 2007, 08:22:06 pm
28th of May, Afternoon

Initiated by:
-Sunset, Commoner

Led by:

-Zoie Hayden, Watchman

Attended by:

-Kelly Valentine, Officer Cadet
-Kas Valentine, Regular Guardsman
-Falconheart, Watchman
-Lucas, Yewian Prisoner

As I was enjoying the fountain in front of the town hall, and a fleeting moment of peace, Miss Sunset appeared and gleefully greeted me. We'd only spoken a few times before, but it is always good to see a happy citizen of Cove around the compound. We spoke for a while before she let out that she wanted to replenish the guild's waning leather stock, but needed an escort. I was all too happy to offer myself as her fighting arm.

As we set up Doofy (her pack horse), we were joined by other guardsmen who wanted to help out as well; especially since we would be spilling blood. Since other guardsmen were now involved, Sunset charged me with leading the rabble and ensuring our Hides to Guardsmen Casualty ratio stayed within acceptable limits. Since there were no expendable recruits along for the journey, it was a heavy responsibility. I lined everyone up, and had Regular Valentine open a moongate to swift us to Despise as it was the closest camp of Lizardmen.

As we came out of the moongate, we ran smack-dab into the face of a lone Yewian soldier! From his markings, we identified him as a Marksman, and quickly formed around him. On Cadet Kelly's order, we took him prisoner and she took the responsibility of hanging on to him during our gathering mission. With the Yewian in tow, we entered the dungeon and proceeded upstairs to the Lizardmen hovels. With much bloodshed, we slaughtered them and Sunset followed behind taking their vile, slimy skins.

We continued doing so for about 30 minutes when I decided it was time to head home. Besides, I was tired of hearing the Yewian soldier's babblings about his life in his army. He was a pretty nice guy otherwise and didn't seem like he'd fit in very well with the riff-raff he was aligned with...

Anyway, we headed out and Kas took us home via moongate. Once we returned home, Kelly tossed the prisoner into a cell, and after we piled the gold, I dismissed everyone with a job well done. Sunset had more hides than she knew what to do with, we had no casualties, and captured an enemy of Cove. Not bad if I say so myself.

After dividing the gold, I stored 2500 gold pieces in the Baron's coffers.

126  In Character Boards / Old Events / 28th of May, 9pm GMT - Guardsman Training (Recruits)/Parade Drill on: May 27, 2007, 05:19:51 pm
When: Monday, 28th of May, 9pm GMT
Where: Barracks Rooftop
Who: Everyone who missed Corporal Raiden's training session earlier in the night is invited, especially Recruits!

I'd like to offer another training/sparring session for those who didn't or couldn't attend the Corporal's session earlier in the evening (though if you'd like to attend both, that is fine). We will be going over the same topics that the Corporal went over in terms of training as well as a Parade Drill; and finishing that, I will hold a sparring session to hone our combat skills.

I want to see lots of recruits there, especially those needing more training in their combat skills!

127  In Character Boards / In Character Board / [Event report] Expedition to Despise on: May 26, 2007, 11:48:24 pm
26th of May, Evening

Led by:
-Zoie Hayden

Attended by:
-Hoagie, Dragoon Sergeant
-Thomas Sandrich, Regular Dragoon
-Jack Sinist, Regular Guardsman
-Kerri, Guardsman Recruit
-James Covium, Guardsman Recruit
-Sadi, Guardsman Recruit
-Ronas Xerad, Guardsman Recruit
-Jakob D'Stoke, Guardsman Recruit
-Talos, Guardsman Recruit

Following my uneasyness the last time I'd stepped foot into Despise, I called for a larger exploratory expedition into the dank cave-like dungeon. I just couldn't shake the feeling that something was happening in there somewhere and I couldn't rest until I found out exactly what.
So I called together everyone who was around and ended up with mostly recruits, but two Dragoons and Regular Jack attending guaranteed success! So after some waiting for everyone to get ready, we set out to Despise!

We entered the dungeon with torches blazing and encountered little resistance save for scattered pockets of Ettins and Earth Elementals. As we made our way through, I tried to remember the area that had piqued my interest from before; a narrow crossroads that was teeming with enemies intent on driving us out. After a time, I found the spot. And just as before, we were immediately attacked on all sides by a great number of ferocious Ettins. This breed of Ettin are much more aggressive and seem more intelligent than any others I have dealt with before.

Anyway, we managed to shut down their attack by slaying a great many of them which gave me time to look over the surroundings. What I'd missed before the last time we were in there was a narrow passage leading West into another large cave. We all shimmied through the passage single file and instantly upon coming into the cave, our torches revealed a very old, yet still sound staircase heading down. I knew it! A hidden staircase leading into the greater depths of the dungeon!

My heart raced as I ordered everyone down the stairs. We came into another large network of caverns, and I decided to head North. We encountered almost no resistance to our presence there and it was clear the monsters, or whoever was controlling them, never thought anyone would venture this deep. We must have walked for miles around twisting caverns and numerous forks. But eventually we started encountering monsters again; this time trolls and ogres! After a short time, we entered a huge cavern with a natural lake. We didn't think anything of the feature until we stumbled across a man-made wooden bridge! I couldn't believe it! A bridge this deep inside Despise? Clearly there were more than just braindead Ettins and trolls down here.

We crossed the mysterious bridge carefully and found ourselves on a small island in the center of the lake. At first, we didn't find much on the island except a strange man on a horse riding around in circles. But before we could all get across the bridge, we were suddenly attack by great hulking ogres! They must be the chieftains or lords of the ogres as they were quite difficult to bring down. Even so, Regular Jack used the fight as a show of Covian power to the stranger and tried to recruit him!

After the ogres were defeated, I ordered a general search of the strange island to look for any clues. For a little while, we didn't find a thing, and as my heart sank, I heard Recruit James shouting that he'd found something! I ran to him and he pointed out a rolled up document sticking out between two rocks. I pulled it out and began to unroll it when we were again attacked my large ogres. I quickly stashed the document in my main belt pouch and joined the fight.

We started to become overwhelmed and as I was anxious to study the document, I ordered a withdrawl back across the bridge. Once we'd made it across and found a peaceful corner, I asked the troops if they'd prefer to go home, or carry on cleaning out this level of the dungeon. The decision was almost unanimous in favour of a cold pint of ale and time to relax. Hoping that we had the clue we came for, I asked Regular Jack to open a moongate back to the Baronship before the monsters had a chance to assemble and ambush us. So he did, and we all made it back alive and well.

We managed to make it out of there with a decent stack of gold which I divided evenly. Everyone present received 1,000 gold pieces for their service and a job well done. After I dismissed the troops, I went upstairs to study the document.

I have left the document on the first table on the top floor of the barracks for anyone who wishes to see it; and for Command to judge the next course of action based on it. After viewing it myself, I dare say that Sosaria, and the Baronship have a new enemy in the making...

It was great fun and though I managed to buy almost everything Axiana was selling, I managed to sell some of my decorative weapons and make a small profit!

131  In Character Boards / Old Events / May 26 - 8:30pm GMT - Exploratory mission to Despise on: May 25, 2007, 07:47:06 pm
I wish to lead a mission into the deepest depths of the Dungeon of Despise to try to get a clue about the increased activity there. The last time I was there, leading a hunt, it seemed very clear that there were greater numbers of monsters, and that they were protecting something.

They succeeded in driving us out last time because there were only 4 of us, but this time I want to get to the heart of what is happening there! My intuition is rarely wrong and I think it in Cove's best interest to suss out any potential power growing within Despise given our proximity to it.

Any and all are welcome to join me in this task!

I have a sneaking suspicion that many of us UO veterans are going to hate KR...

Thank God it's optional.

I was wondering this as well. We are attackable by a great number of guilds, and newcomers to BoC don't have any idea of who is really our enemy!
