OOC Boards / OOC Board / Re: The Future of BoC

The problem I see with that is ... as far as I can tell... there's no one person or place that keeps track of shillings at the moment. Either there would need to be a Shilling Watchdog, OR... we would have to find an actual "thing" to use as shillings, an actual currency. It'd have to be something unique that someone in the guild has control over. The first thing that comes to my mind is a player crafted item with a maker's mark on it. But like you said, this could get too complicated

In Character Boards / In Character Board / Report: Failed Pilgrimage [By Swinsweg]
|
on: October 31, 2005, 10:27:05 pm
|
Report by Swinsweg Palmer Attendees: Odenetheus - Leader Erik Arkay Valiro Etherus Seamus Raiden Morana Swinsweg Palmer The Father wished for us Guards to go on a long pilgrimage to the Shrine of Sacrifice (how ironic this would turn out to be!). Having little choice, and never having seen it before myself, we headed out. We smote a few sewer rats on the way, but Father Odenetheus got quite excited when we came across a foul Priest of Mondain. We slew him in goodly fashion as well. The un-Avatarian Priest had a good amount of coins on him, which we quickly scooped up for extra tithe upon our arrival at the Shrine. Along the way, Erik had the cunning plan to take off his boots. The blighter! Anyway, we were forced to march the rest of the way to Vesper not only with no hats on, but BAREFOOT, thank you very much, which Father Odenetheus took much too pleasure in our pained groaning in my humble opinion! My sore feet were the least of the Company's problems as it would turn out. We arrived in fashionable time to Vesper and walked her comely streets, past a crowd of natives, and attempted to cross the next bridge. And if I thought her cobblestone streets were painful, Vesper's citizens were even more so! They threatened us, belittled us, wore the most hideous color schemes, and generally were not nearly as pleasant as any common Covian. Father Odentheus attempted to make good with the rude folk of Vesper only to be treated with the most disrespect I have seen any person give a figure of the Church! We had immediately disarmed ourselves upon the Father's command once we were surrounded on the bridge. One of the Vesperians took it upon himself to lunge upon our Churchman in a split second, and in the next split second, it was all over!! We ALL fell to Vesper weapons! We collected our boots, our pride and ourselves and limped back to the crosswords 'tween Cove and befouled Vesper. We thought we heard a commotion behind us through the woods as we reached peaceful Cove, and were beside ourselves wondering what to do at the great slight that had been dealt us by the roguish Vesperians. We needn't ponder a solution long before, 'lo, the Avatar did smile upon us beleagued Covians, for a troupe from Trinsic showed upon the Barrack stairs and bid us quite the warm welcome. Dressed in fine silver and blue, the men told us that THEY had dispatched the Vesperian forces! HUZZAH! Not only that, but they invited us kindly to a wonderful sounding market in Trinsic, to be held on the second day of November at 8 o'the'clock.

Report by DanichtaIt were the day of tha Market good Mister Banedon were to put forth in Cove. Litl did me an Smedly knows that it had been cancelleded. I were might sad and decide since busi boise business were being slow up in the City Hall shop of mine, I would do a "mini" market belows and hock my maps and fish stakes. I haded advist advertised the Market in many of strange place, so several strange non-Covians did show upon to our City Hall. I sold many maps and even more fish to the friendly peoples. One of them even was wanting to have helped put the market into place. I think it helped make Cove better known to these peoples and also promoted the new City Hall and my wares! My thanks to Mister Grief for the new City Hall, it is a wonder and a tust taste testement to the glory of the Avatar. With a purse full of gold, Danichta

OOC Boards / OOC Board / Church going bye-bye?
|
on: October 23, 2005, 04:23:19 pm

I thought Hugo's cloudy "demise" was part of a plot line but when I logged in this morning for Mass was told that the Church is possibly closing. Is this true? That'd be quite sad, I think, Mass was (believe it or not) my favorite weekly event! If it's a case of not enough input/activity I'd be more than happy to step up and help out however I can. Please if anybody knows what's going on with the Church let me know, thanks

In Character Boards / In Character Board / Swinsweg arrives at Cove
|
on: October 10, 2005, 05:15:59 am
|
“Swinny run, run! Don’t look back!” her cheeks were rivers of tears as she looked up at him with adoration and dread. There was physical pain in trying to pull himself away from her and Swinsweg could feel his heart pounding with torment inside his chest. “Please Swinny, you must!” and the young lass pushed him away with all her strength, out the back door of the musty tavern and into the night. Swinsweg wasn’t aware of his leg pounding the dirt road as he ran from the tavern, his focus was on the shouts of town guards in the background harassing and questioning. Kiramas would be all right, she was out of danger now thanks to Swinsweg.
Dew blanketed his hair and clothing, causing the Bard to wake suddenly from nightmare filled sleep. He blinked wearily into the dawn and slowly got to a sitting position. The previous days events unwound in his mind and Swinsweg blinked back tears, realizing he’d have to go into hiding…. For a long time.
It had all started a few months prior when Swinsweg had begun singing and performing regularly at the little tavern. As always he was ridiculed for his effeminate nature, but the local drunks had come to appreciate his clever songs and ability to drink with the best of them. It didn’t take many drinks before the gossip of the town, as it always did, reached the Bard’s ears. This time it was different, however, the stories were darker and the characters all too real.
“The tales you spin are too brutal to be true!” Swinsweg argued one night with a regular bar patron.
“They’s true I tells ye, ye daft dandy! Why any one nay afraid o’ tha’ wicked Vicar’ll tell the’s true! Aye? Aye?!” the drunkard pleaded with his friends who suddenly had found their mugs fascinating.
“Aye, ‘tis true, Swinny. It ‘appened t’ me,” came the soft voice of Kiramas, one of several wenches employed at the tavern. A hush fell over everyone and only the rain could be heard on the roof.
Swinsweg felt his mind sober as he realized the implication of her confession. She continued bravely though in a hushed tone.
“Th’ Vicar an’ his men come te’ yer house loike. They ‘ccuses yer family o’ wytchcraft an worse. While th’ Vicar damns all yer family te the realm o’ the Guardian an back, ‘is men scour yer ‘ouse an loot everythin’ ye dinnay ‘ave nailed down. Fam’ly heirlooms nay e’en safe loike!” This caused a murmur of dismay from the crowd. Swinsweg’s throat had gone dry and his lute was sliding from his lap. He had grown fond of Kiramas and was saddened at her misfortune.
“An tha’ ain’t e’en tha’ half o’ it. Then…” she trailed off for a moment and looked down at her calloused hands, “Then they takes yer youngin’s away, lad an’ lass aloike… an perform unspeakable thin’s t’em. B’lieve me… I know.” Again a silence fell over the tavern. Swinsweg felt a lump in his throat and tried to fight it back.
About a week passed after Kiramas shared her story, there was little mention of it in the tavern but neither was there the usual merriment. On a cold night Swinsweg was stretched out on one of the back tables tuning his lute when the front door burst open to reveal the Vicar himself, with three burly churchmen behind him like goons worthy of Buccaneer’s Den. Swinsweg sat up immediately and looked them over with dread.
The Vicar had walked with a humble and demure aura up to the tavern bar. “A water for myself, in a clean glass if it isn’t too much trouble” he ordered the barkeep before surveying the tavern’s occupants. His eyes landed on Kiramas and there was a twitch of a smile on the old Vicar’s lips that spoke of memory, and the blush to Kiramas’s usually proud features sealed the suspicion into fact.
Swinsweg felt anger as he’d never felt before rise up in his veins and he sat up loudly. Everyone in the tavern looked at him. Before he could say anything the door had opened again, this time to Lord Fauthston, the major landholder of the area and benefactor of the Church. He occasionally dropped into the tavern, the only one in the hamlet, so his arrival was not unexpected but of a most curious coincidence. Unsure of what to do, Swinsweg looked down at his lute…. And began to play a song he had never heard before, a song of sadness and defeat, and in his beautiful perfect tenor he sang a song from his heart:
Blessed be the Avatar and His holy men; For in their grace is our hiding den. May they save our souls and redeem us, We simple folk who know no better, We simple folk who know no better, May the Church save our souls and redeem us.
Blessed be the Avatar and His preachers, For they guide us and play our teachers, May they save our souls and redeem us, For they should all know better, For they should all know better, May the Churchmen be better than us.
Blessed be the Avatar and His wisdom, He sees all that happens in His kingdom, When the Friars steal and cheat us, We can hope for no better, We can hope for no better, Unless a kind Lord should help us.
Blessed be the Avatar and his judgment, Let’s hope that the Friars have repentance, Our children’s innocence they take from us, They really should know better, They really should know better, Unless the Lord should help us. Unless the Lord should help us.
The tavern was silent during his entire song, and as soon he was finished, the Lord’s eyes fell on the Vicar and his men. Everyone could feel the truth of the song. With a yell full of hell and fire, the Vicar lunged at Swinsweg and the Bard tumbled to the floor and scurried away under a table. He knew little else except the sounds of the battle in the tavern between Lord Fauthston’s men and the Vicar’s men.
Swinsweg got kicked all over his body as he scurried blindly until a small hand grasped his and pulled him through the musty back rooms of the tavern to the back door. Kiramas pulled Swinsweg close to whisper to him, “Run!”

In Character Boards / In Character Board / First bout of training!

Well, let me tell you! What an exciting first day as an official recruit. I had a rough time finding someone to supply a uniform, and at that, he had a hard time completing the outfit. Erik Arkay suited me with some armor and weapon (and oh how uncomfy it was) but had to take the skirt and boots from off what he called an imposter. They roughed him up quite a bit, let me tell you, but finally I was able to complete my Guard outfit. After awhile of walking around trying to get used to the armor, I met a guard by the name of Kiran. What an odd fellow, but quite nice it seemed! He was friendly enough to offer me a few tips on my fighting techniques. For some reason, both he and the good Arkay found my unique style somewhat amusing. But I assure you, I was trying my hardest! It was pretty fun, all and all, despite a few owies. Before too long I was doing much better, or at least to their standards, and I think they were both quite impressed how far I had come in such a short while. That Kiran had a bit of a short fuse with me, however, but I think he was just a little tired. Kiran had to toodle, so Arkay decided to test my refined battle prowess a bit, since he had watched Kiran training me. He decided that a trip to the nearby Orc fort would suffice. They were quite smelly, but I perservered, and Arkay even took me for a drink afterwards. I was more exhausted than I had ever been! Best regards, ~Swinsweg Palmer~

Banedon gave me a house out in Malas that I'd gladly give to someone else for a house in Cove. I don't know how the whole housing thing works nowadays...but if I can help keep a piece of Cove realestate in BoC let me know!

In Character Boards / In Character Board / Khae's Cove Market!
|
on: September 29, 2005, 09:00:53 pm

Penned on behalf of Danichta of CoveA diverse group of civilians found themselves in the upstairs of the barracks, why they all came to be there Danichta didn’t know, but they found themselves congregated nonetheless. A quick look at the bunch, and Khaelith was struck by Avatarian inspiration: Let’s have a Market!!The words no sooner dropped from his lips than the Citizens, Serfs and Peasants alike burst into a frenzied mass of activity gathering supplies and goods from all over Cove. Levon chopped wood while Paul created a plethora of furniture for the booths and open-air tavern. Paul also set up a make-shift jail incase there was trouble, as well as large banquet tables for folks to rest and eat at. Many booths, of all sorts, were set up at the Market. Khaelieth had his own booth in the middle selling Church sanction jinxes, as well as sundry supplies. As for Danichta, by sanction of the Church, she set up a Fortune Telling booth. Paul ran the open-air tavern while Levon had a fruit and wafer stand. Caron, a new Serf of Cove, helped to set up everything and supplied goods throughout the evening. Jessica had all kinds of baked goods at her booth, and even Odenetheus set up a Church booth! Before too long, folks from all over Sosaria were hearing of the spontaneous Cove market. The Baron made a brief appearance at the beginning of the Market, giving his approval to the booths set up and all the hard work done by the civilians. Even some Elves showed up and getting caught in the exciting Market atmosphere, set up a booth of their own Elvish crafts. The atmosphere became a bit too exciting, however, as a few scuffles broke out here and there. Though Danichta didn’t know his name, they seemed to involve a Witch Hunter of Cove and an unknown man named Bruce! Tensions were high, too, between the good Father and the Elves. At first he did not seem to appreciate their attendance, but by the end of the evening wished them a farewell with the rest of the citizenry. Indeed by the end of the Market there was love in the air, pockets full of gold, and an all-around good feeling of a Market well put on! …except for one lonely Peasant left to clean up… thankfully one of the many guards who attended the Market, Joey, helped clean up the massive amount of furniture made by Paul.
