My book, Resurrection Men, is now out as an ebook! If anyone's interested...

https://elsewhen.press/index.php/catalogue/title/resurrection-men/

The bottom of the above link has links to sites the ebook is available from, such as iTunes, Amazon Kindle.  The paperback will be out in late October.

Glasgow 1893.
Wilton Hunt, a student, and Tam Foley, a laudanum-addicted pharmacist, are pursuing extra-curricular careers as body snatchers, or ‘resurrection men’, under cover of darkness. They exhume a girl’s corpse, only for it to disappear while their backs are turned. Confused and in need of the money the body would have earnt them, they investigate the corpse’s disappearance. They discover that bodies have started to turn up in the area with ripped-out throats and severe loss of blood, although not the one they lost. The police are being encouraged by powerful people to look the other way, and the deaths are going unreported by the press. As Hunt and Foley delve beneath the veneer of respectable society, they find themselves entangled in a dangerous underworld that is protected from scrutiny by the rich and powerful members of the elite but secretive Sooty Feathers Club.
Meanwhile, a mysterious circus arrives in the middle of the night, summoned to help avenge a betrayal two centuries old…

Hi all!

It's great seeing Cove active again. I first started UO in 2000 (Lake Superior shard for some reason), moving to Europa near the end of 2005 where I joined BoC. Imho UO has never been bettered for roleplaying, and I'm glad to see free-to-play has brought back the community.

After logging in a few times since Endless Journey, I've been absent. My gaming room ceiling needed completely replacing and replastering, which meant the room also needed painting. Due to this, my PC has been packed away longer than expected.

Once set up, though, my time in UO will be limited. My wife and I have a baby due in October, and my first novel is being published. Between a new baby and trying to squeeze in writing (as well as my day job), my UO time will be limited!

For anyone interested, my first novel, Resurrection Men (by David Craig), will be published as an ebook on 31/08 from Amazon, itunes and other such sites. The paperback comes out around the 22 October (same date the baby is due!).

Below is a link to the press release if anyone's interested.

I've made a public facebook page with book updates and photos from real places featured in the book (those still around).

Meanwhile, I'll hopefully be back in Britannia in a week or so. I see Cove is at war with Vesper again - good to see the old traditions being kept alive!

I played on a couple of perma death persistant world RP Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 servers and found it enhanced the quality of RP.  People were forced to RP their characters more realistically since there was a real risk of death.  Full pvp wasnt a problem since random attacks were too risky for the attacker.

Hope you recharge your batteries and feel better.  I've been in BoC Command a couple of times and it can take a lot of time and effort.  That Hoagie was always skiving...

Kidding! Don't ban me.

My first internet connection was a 20 hour or something free trial with AOL so for some reason I started on their 'private' AOL Legends shard (now Legends I think).   You could only access this shard if you were with AOL.  This was around September 2000 and I bought the Renaissance box (for £12).  I think it was the only UO box to have a proper manual which I've still got.  It was innaccurate in a lot of places, talked about Factions which didnt get released until about December.

Anyway, I wandered about Haven for a bit, tried to tame a horse by hitting it with my practice sword.  My char was called Drenan.  I thought names had to be unique.  I ended up in Britain and was wary of all those scary [Chaos] people hanging round Britain bank on horses, wearing cloaks.  I wasn;t too sure how this Trammel/Fel thing worked.

Anyway, I quicky joined Freeserve ISP and went to Lake Superior despite living in the UK. Connection was horrible (crappy 56k modem).  I spent much of my early time mining in Minoc (manually, no macro).  I made a few crappy weapons, got my arse kicked, joined a guild briefly though had to manually run to and from the guild casetle near Wrong.  Didnt know about runebookss.  After about a month I got a runestone and went to Fel for a whil.  This was before mooongates let you cross facets, let alone recalling across them.  Had to farm lizards in Wrong for them.  Surprisingly never got killed much in Fel, was obviously too poor, though I blew my 5k gold on a full suit of verite ringmail (platte arms).

The woman on my team who organised last year's Christmas party for my team spent much of the time slagging off the previous year's Christmas afternoon/night out, which had been organised by yours truly.  Apparently a Christmas late-lunch in a very nice Grill restaurant followed by some drinks in a nearby pub  isn't as festive as spending the night in a crappy overbooked hotel where the overpriced meal consists of two slices of lukewarm turkey and a couple of small carrots, sprouts and potatoes, and the entertainment consists of a crappy DJ.  And the overpriced drinks are lukewarm.

Aforestated cow colleague decided to organise last year's Christmas do, returning to the 'traditional' hotel crapfest.  Which I declined to attend.  Imagine my ironic amusement on hearing that the hotel had sunk to a new low in that not only did the entertainment consist of karaoke, but that almost everyone went down with food poisoning.

Where: Barracks
When: Wednesday 7 PM

Lads and ladettes,

I'm hosting a training to get us into shape.  The first bit will be the usual stuff, what we should and shouldn't be doing.  Second bit will be a 30 minute non-stop group battle in Cove, two or three sides depending on the numbers.
