Bit of a very brief report there Recruit but a first attempt so not bad. Maybe try adding ranks to the names next time and explain a bit more about the patrol. I like to add in some exciting details such as when we didn't see the lich coming and almost ended up being wiped out.

[Trial 2 - Loyalty]

Trial 2 - Loyalty

Tonight I faced my final trial which although it seemed difficult to try and organise turned out to be fun and enjoyable. A large crowd of guardsmen and citizens gathered at the Barracks with their trained hounds ready to face down the ferocious mongbats that lurk in the woods.  After giving a few informative guidelines and thanking the honoured guests for coming we set off at a pace into the woods.

Orders were shouted to dogs and the hounds barked and snapped at the mongbats. Sadly Sheriam's hound was the first to fall as it bravely took on a troll. The Yewish Hound proved to be quite keen as it began racking up kills and racing at the mongbats faster than any of the other hounds on its sturdy little legs. I believe my old friend Gar would have been pleased with that one.

The hunt progressed towards Minoc and down through the woods to Vesper where we stopped at the Swaggers for refreshments or the case of Trinsic Red that Misses Avalynn and Mizhou helped prepare for me. After everyone was suitably refreshed we carried on back to Cove and finished in good time for the parade.

[Trial 4 Brotherhood]

Trial 4 Brotherhood

I had thought this trial would have been the simplest to complete but finding a Grenadier off duty long enough to interview is a task in itself. When I found Keitaro sat in the tavern last night I decided now was my chance. Marcus also came and sat beside me and I began to ask them both about why they joined the Grenadiers and how long they had been members. Marcus answered my questions promptly stating it had been six months and he wanted to be part of something bigger and dedicated to Cove. Keitaro seemed to be meditating but eventually woke and slowly answered my question.

The night progressed with others joining our table and the beer was kept flowing by Avalynn as she worked behind the bar. Sometime during the night Ting decided to try and fight me as I was sat still trying to get a few more questions done. I shoved her off but Marcus and Keitaro stood up in my defense and before long the four of us were beating her down. It was then I got to see what Brotherhood meant for the Grenadiers as they stood up for me and worked together as one. My cheek suffered a cut from the fight but was soon cleaned up as we went back to our drinks.

The evening ended as we laughed and shared stories as we drank our way though several bottles of ale, rum and brandy.

As you are aware I have received my tasks to become one of your own Grenadiers. One of these tasks is to arrange for a Mongbat hunt for yourself and certain members of Covian high society to take part, Miss Axiana has already expressed an interest to attend.  I would therefore ask if you could advise me on which day you would care to hunt. I have arranged for a case of Trinsic Red to be available and other refreshments provided by the Cardinal Feather.

After the battle as we were heading to Yew's tavern Torrek Keres called me aside and gathered the rest of the Grenadiers. He asked if I had a trial we could do which required five guardsmen. I mentioned the only one we could do that evening would be the trophy hunt so in true Grenadier style we headed off to Ilshenar to find us a Golden Balron and Betrayer.
We headed to blood dungeon first where we easily fought off a Balron of a lesser nature when with luck a golden one appeared. This one however had us on our toes and we were close to beating it down but realised we needed perhaps one more person to help keep us on our feet. Keres sent a message asking for an Arcanist and next we knew half of Yew arrived with Miss Martin.

Once we had the golden Balron down we headed off to find the Betrayer which with a few false paths we eventually discovered in an abandoned gypsy camp. Again it wasn't long before a Golden betrayer rose its head and we smashed it down so I could remove an arm.



Equipped with my two new trophies we made our way back to Yew's tavern to drink and share tales of the evenings battle with Vesper.

For this training session I decided to lead the guardsmen to the jungle and test their abilities in making a fort within a dangerous land. Before we headed out I ensured everyone had their survival kits with them. It took a little time for people to gather their kits or add missing parts to it. We split into two teams with Leith leading Sheriam and Ting and Marcus with myself and the new recruit. 

The order was to build a fort within the swamp. My team set up against the mountainside boarding the swamp using its natural defences as our back wall. The recruit and I chopped wood and killed snakes and crocodiles for their hides as Marcus built the crates and constructed the fort. After giving both team enough time to build their forts we met up to compare and discuss the attributes.

The other team it seems decided to build their fort in the front garden of a civilians property set far back from the swamp. They tried to argue it was as near the swamp as our fort but this was clearly not the case.



After the fort building I led a discussion on possible injuries that could be sustained within the jungle. These ranged from acid on weapons, armour and skin. Snake bites from the large serpents and how to deal with them. Marcus gave us all the correct answers as the other guardsmen came up with their ideas which for Ting consisted of removing your clothes for all the above. 



Once I felt everyone was bored of training we did a patrol of the swamp killing everything in our path before heading back to the Barracks.

It was late in the evening and a few of us were standing around so Sergeant Sanderson suggested I led a Sentry as it's expected of Juniors to be able to construct them and supervise others doing it.



I had a good team to build the sentry so it didn't take too long for it to come together as we chopped wood and raided the local wildlife for their hides. I have noticed there's been a drop in wildlife recently with the amount of sentries being constructed. Might need to bring in some more from elsewhere.



I remembered it needed to be three high but at least this time we had an actual door and I didn't have to stand in for one.



Once it was constructed stories were exchanged as is tradition of a sentry it seems and we kept watch of the Barracks long into the night.

With the help of Miss Vale and the food and drink supplied by Carolin Argon I managed to organise a game of bag ball in the Covian fields. I had never witnessed a game of bagball before so I had no idea what to expect. I let those who came pick their own teams which turned into a three a side match. They chose white and blue for their respective colours and the teams were a mix of Cove and Yewish players to keep things fair friendly.

The first few rounds played out well but as the game continued so the insults started and I had to issue a yellow card to the Yewish Borgio who kept insulting my eyesight. I then realised it was a ruse to change the size of their goal which brought on another round of insults. I almost issued a red card but he waved a crossbow and I didn't fancy my chances.



After the first half a fight broke out just as we were sitting to eat. Tingle "TitsMcgee" and Miss "Brazenlass" Melior's insults grew out of hand as they began to tear chunks out of each other. Quite literally as clothing began to fly and hair was pulled. I had to avert my eyes as they were both exposed at the chest. Captain Wilkes supplied me with a sketch of the action as I was in no mind to draw. Miss Vale had to shoulder bash them apart as they were intent on tearing other items of clothing from each other.

Finally things calmed down and after some food and drink another round of bagball was played. In the end the white team was triumphant scoring 10-4.



After the match we all returned to eating and drinking which was carried on into the tavern where songs were song and a good evening was had by all.

Previous to organising this patrol Miss Axiana gave me a piece of her delicately made chocolate which was very delicious. She explained to me what went into making it and I promised her my help in securing either sugar or the means for her to harvest sugar. I spent a while searching out where I would be able to find the seeds for the needed plants and then organised that my next patrol would lead us to that destination.

Our target was the Kappa which reside in Tokuno. I recalled from previous patrols to this area that the Kappa's blood was acidic and standing in it for too long would damage us. I think before we began using polished armour we had several fall just from the blood but now thanks to our craftsmen and women we found the Kappa to be little trouble to our small patrol.

We quickly dispatched several of the strange turtle like creatures and found the majority of them carried some kind of seed. Several laps around the small lake had our bags full of both gold and seeds of which I happily handed over to Miss Axiana.

I was approached by a lovely citizen named Axiana who offered me a piece of delicious chocolate. She told me the ingredients to make this wonderful product are hard to find and so I offered my services and said I would use one of my patrol duties to hunt down the needed ingredients.

We are to head to Tokuno and seek out the creatures called Kappa and take any seeds they might have so I can help Miss Axiana grow some sugar cane.

After Sheri had gathered her required amount of arrows she handed the line over to me so I could lead a patrol to gather another 10,000 gold. We passed through the dungeon which offered little more than a few skeletons in some rather fanciful rooms. It appeared as an entire village underground that was now full of its dead citizens. We passed a crafting room with tables full of arrows and stacks of ingots. A possible source of materials for future patrols. The skeletons offered us little resistance so we went in search of something bigger.

Out and into the open air we then faced Juka and their gollum contraptions left wandering from Blackthorn's time we hacked them down quickly including their golden counterparts. From here we followed the road killing imps and other such creatures as we made our way finally to the shrine and back safely to Cove.

Time to pick your teams and ready yourself for a bagball tournament. 

Will it be Cove vs Yew or mixed teams? The choice is yours. Who will be the best and win the trophy?
