1  In Character Boards / In Character Board / [Duty] Operation Orc Mines on: September 20, 2018, 08:45:01 pm
Leading:

Jon Trent, Junior Guardsman.

Attended by:

Kelly Sanderson, Sergeant.
Gimbly, Regular Grenadier.
Sheriham Palmer, Junior Guardsman.

I picked up another one of Captain Morana's duties and led out a second patrol this evening. This time to the orc mines of our allies in Yew. The Sarge had us head to Stonekeep first to make the Militia aware of our actions in their territory and with their Captain's blessing, we then made our way to the mines.

However, we were ambushed by orcs in the nearby woods. Sergeant Sanderson mentioned something about the Tolagal orcs and that they used to roam those parts. Battling through our attackers, we entered the mines and fought our way down it's many levels. It looked as though they were amassing arms, armour and supplies, including crude cannons. Grenadier Gimbly set some charges to destroy them and having slaughtered all many of orcs, we returned to the barracks, our packs once again bulging, this time with coins and ore.

Leading:

Jon Trent, Junior Scout.

Attended by:

Leanne Martin-Melior, Regular Scout.
Sheriham Palmer, Junior Guardsman.
Hope Tyrell, Guardsman Recruit.

We made our way from the barracks to Ilshenar, as per the Captain's orders. Once we arrived at Spirituality, we double timed it to the harpies lair and set about thinning their numbers, plucking their feathers and retrieving the shiny coins they collect.

Having slain regular harpies, stone and golden ones and with our packs bursting at the seams, I ordered the patrol back to Cove, so that we could replenish the stores and coffers with our loot.

Adding To The List Of Enemies.

Last eve, Captain Morana instructed me to infiltrate the grand meeting in Vesper and gather what intelligence I could on their political stance towards Cove and our allies in Yew, in order to complete my Light Company trials.

I dressed as a simple member of their townsfolk and mingled with the gathering crowd as their leader Esca Flowne prepared to address his people. There were some persons of interest in the crowd, notably Sioned, who runs the Swaggers inn, Devante Stirling, my former commander in the Royal Marksmen, the deserter Tingleith and someone named Fenris Blackmyre whom I recall seeing in Cove recently, as well as the elf that was the root cause of the current tensions, Cal'an.

During proceedings, Esca declared Sioned as his head of security. He obviously has lost faith in the Redguard and those he appointed to protect the town whilst he was away. He also announced that whilst he would remain as Vesper's Chancellor, he was stepping down as it's governor, opening the way for the elf Cal'an to step into the role.

He then asked his people to vote whether or not Vesper should declare war on Cove and Yew. Many of their townsfolk seemed undecided on who to follow but in the end it was decided that whilst remaining 'hostile' towards Cove and Yew, they would not be openly aggressive and would close their borders and 'turtle in'.

The re-formation of the Blackguard was also mentioned, to spy on our allies and ourselves and a standing order that any Covians or Yewish found within Vesper's borders in uniform are to be removed by force.

Once again, the Vesperians promoted their acceptance of elf, orc and gargoyle kin, in fact an orc roamed freely among the throng, as did a number of hired mercenaries. One other point to note is that the Fenris character, who I understand was lording himself as a 'witch hunter' recently in Cove, was openly trying to incite the gathered Vesperians. Calling for attacks on the Covian and Yewish churches and labeling Covians as animals.

With none awake, I headed off to Yew to map Stonekeep as requested.

I sketched down all the buildings I thought of interest. There were a few Yewish guardsmen stood around but I think they were catching up on their sleep as none so much as moved a muscle as I crept around. Other than that, the place was deserted.

That last sketch sir, I'm not sure, It just seemed... Seemed like it could be something. When I served with the Royal Marksmen, I spent a lot of time in the elven quarter of Trinsic and became familiar with their tree houses and the like. I know the Yewish are no lovers of elves but that last structure reminded me very much of how they disguise/use trees as housing.

I also 'borrowed' one of their own maps that marks out areas of interest in the region.

Apologies for having to leave before the end ma'am.

I think I was a little weary from the raid on Sanctuary. I managed to bring down two out of three marks during the zombie training though.

Sanctuary has long been a haven for the region's undesirables. All manner of foul beings reside inside the ruins within the cave complex, hoarding their ill gotten gains. So I led a detachment to liberate some of those ill gotten gains and redistribute them into the coffers, as per my requirements as a Junior guardsman.

I reminded everyone to stay close, heal the man next to them and to fill their packs with loot. We started well and beat back wave after wave of titans, changelings, gargoyles and all manner of foul beings. We did get bogged down a couple of times, due to sheer weight of numbers but once we regrouped we fought our way back out, before being cut off, with our packs bulging with gold.

22, 933 in gold donated to the coffers.

We received word that the defenders of Minoc needed aid to stave off the besieging forces of Vesper and their hirelings. The Royalist defenders requested urgent aid from the Guardsman Militia of Yew who in turn requested the aid of Covian forces to help prevent Minoc from falling into the hands of the Vesperian Red Menace.

Despite taking heavy casualties Covian and Yewish guardsmen fought bravely to buy the royalists within the town time enough to prepare their defences. The scene of this bloody skirmish was the Minoc moongate and although forced to fall back due to heavy losses the Covian and Yewish stragglers fell back into Minoc to help the defenders beat of Vesperian advances and keep the region free from the greedy clutches of the Red Menace.

As I arrived at the barracks to oversee my sentry the place was awash with sea water, a huge wave having crashed over the cliffs, leaving the area around the barracks and market knee deep in some places. I quickly got those gathered to work with the task of stemming the flood and then removing the water that had settled around the barracks.

I sent Jessica to Minoc for shovels and the Grenadiers into the shire to chop wood. I myself brought sandbags from the stores and helped by a traveller called Lotte we began to build a sandbag barrier in front of the barracks whilst another recruit Talaeth started work on building a flood barrier.

We worked long and hard with other guardsmen joining us in our labours as they came on duty. With our flood wall in place we then started bailing out the barracks area. A woman visiting Cove came up with the idea of forming a "bucket chain" to speed the process and it seemed to work as we had the place cleared in no time.

We could now construct our sentry post and keep a watch around the baronship Household. To pass the time us guardsmen duelled whilst the civilians chatted. I still need to down another Junior or better. Kado's axe and the confined space of the sentry worked against me. We manned the sentry for some time with no threats and no repeat of the flooding.

Here's my drawings:

12  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Rescuing Miss Freckletip on: June 05, 2009, 11:15:38 pm
*A report left on Aliryl's desk*

The Rescue Of Miss Freckletip.

Led by: Me'ann, Watchman.

Attended by: JT, Junior Guardsman. Penny Freckletip, Citizen.

I saw Me'ann at the barracks having walked back from the orchard. He said we had a mission to do, to rescue miss Freckletip from the slavers that had held Addy's sister and the other arcanist. The Watchman said he'd scouted the slaver's hideout and that it was across the bay. With the storms and rain as it was I was happy to take the long way round and walk along the coast.

We headed through Altmere and skirted the northern swamps before  heading southwards to where the slavers had held our friends captive. There was no sign of the brigands, just a lone gargoyle guarding the gates and that was taken care of easily. Once inside the stronghold the elf asked me if I was religious and then took off his armour and started meditating. I cradled my bow and watched him as he got up and touched a stone of the stronghold's wall to reveal a hidden entrance.

The elf must have discovered the lever earlier and was trying to impress me. Once inside we were faced with heavy steel doors that the Watchman blew off their hinges with his magery and in the second vault we found miss Freckletip. I smashed through her bonds with my halberd and we hurried outside. Me'ann aimed fireballs at the straw thatched roof and before long the place was ablaze and we headed back towards Cove and the rain.

We encountered the usual threats on our trip back but they were dealt with easily and we arrived safely in Cove where we took Penny to the tavern where her friends were waiting to meet her.

I hope my report is up to scratch ma'am?

Patrol Of The Shire Ruins.

Led by ~ JT, Junior Guardsman.

Attended by ~ Aliryl, Officer Cadet & Me'an, Watchman.

As well as the usual undead activity around the graveyard the old ruins had been rumoured to be infested by deadites of late, so having cleared the graveyard I led a patrol to sweep both sets of ruins.

No threats were found and neither ruin seemed to have been inhabited recently.
