I arrived at the barracks for duty to find the men sparring on the rooftop after one of Tiberius' famous training sessions. The young arcanist Aylmer challenged me ter a duel but just as I was about to knock him on his arse he begged me cease as he had run out of herbs. I doubt the Vesperians would be so accommodatin'. Anyway, as he went to fetch fresh supplies I warmed up with a bout against recruit Valkur. A macer like myself he is but I was able to down him, then again, so I should. Aylmer returned and promptly singed my kilt fer me. Cocky little git.
"Not as handy doing push ups or climbing rockfaces." Tib' observed.
"Bet he struggles with the lasses too." I said smirking.
Another recruit, Korjaa or summat, promptly put the arcanist in his place. Always someone bigger and 'arder or so they say. Our fun done I lined the men up outside to ready themselves for a mission to the orc fort.
The greenskins had been spotted again roaming around the Household and Shire so we would give them a reminder to stay within the stinking confines of that shitehole of a fort of theirs. We were immediately greeted by a small warband led by two brutes as we approached the fort. We gave them a good kickin'. Though the recruits need ter heed their orders afore they end up as an orc's supper.
We cut our way through the fort, slaying every greenskin in our path until there were none brave enough ter face us. We forced march back to barracks to share out our loot. Each mercenary received 4,000 coins apart from the ones donatin' ter the coffers who only received a half share.
While I put the spare loot in the coffers I'd ordered the men to retrieve their woodcuttin' and woodcraftin' tools and while Buttons wanted ter fortify the gates against and invasion by pandas the rest of us thought a trip to the border to reinforce the Altmere outpost would be a better course of action.
I sent the main of our force into the forests to harvest wood with Buttons in charge of construction. That appointment looked doomed ter fail but ter be fair he oversaw the erectin' of a fine sentry post. Tibby and I shot a little dice and patrols were sent out as reinforcements arrived. We questioned one rather garish looking Trinsican who was travelling through our lands. His armour was the shiniest I'd ever seen and had a rather sickly white tint to it. Although he seemed to be heading westward towards Yew we didn't view him of much of a threat and once he had been allowed to pass we settled back as Tib' started to reminisce about how he came ter Cove and ended up in the service of the baron.
He told stories of the orc occupation and invasions by samurai and Kaldorian's. I too was invited to share some of my stories so I told of the time Vince Valentine routed an entire column of Yewish reinforcements during the first Minoc campaign. Corporal Keres had joined us by now and with no threats to our position he led the men back to barracks for some training.
