Junior Bersi, your actions in response to the various attacks by the Altmere Liberation Front have done little to lessen tensions in that area. In fact, the burning of farmholds in that area has only escalated the conflict. Therefore, I'm dispatching you to the area to take care of a few regional threats as part of your Trials.
Hopefully these trials will also prove educational to yourself and any other guardsmen that accompany you.Trial One: The Keep of Avarice
Deep in the mountainous regions of Avaricia is an ancient, stone fortress - the Keep of Avarice. It is said that it was once the fortress of a mighty Nobleman who dabbled in the Arcane. One day, his greed and desire for power led him to make a pact with the Guardian himself, and he and everyone else in the fortress were slain, rising as Liches and other such Undead.
- Lead an expedition into the Keep of Avarice, in the deepest reaches of the mines known as Covetous.
- Locate the desecrated Chapel within the Keep, and rescue any artifacts you might find there.
- "Liberate" at least 15,000 gold coins from the abandonded Keep.
- Report the expedition in full, including your interpretation of the lesson this Trial is meant to teach you and other Arcanists.
Trial Two: Hearts and Minds
Fighting fire with fire in regards to the Altmere Revolt is obviously not working. As one of the Guardsmen responsible for burning farmholds in the region, you're tasked with making amends with the locals by performing one of the following two tasks;
Option 1: Aid Caravan and Distribution.
- Lead a small caravan of basic food, first aid, and building supplies to Altmere.
- Once there, set up a stall or two to distribute these things to the locals.
- Patrol the area around your stalls, disabling traps and eliminating hostile creatures.
Option 2: Rebuilding the Farms You Destroyed
- Lead a group of guardsmen carrying building supplies to the farmhold you and Ilyana attacked, and repair the damage you inflicted.
- If the residents are still in the area, apologize to them and pay them five thousand shillings to compensate for the damage to their property and crops.
Trial Three: Raising Security
Cove has been at war or on the verge of war with one neighbor or another for as long as any of us can remember. We're shorthanded, undersupplied, and overextended. The ALF cites the infrequency of patrols and sentries in the region as one of the reasons they've chosen their current path. It is your task to prove them wrong by completing BOTH of the following tasks;
Task One: Bolstering the Ranks
- Lead a recruitment stall in New Haven, placing banners and pamphlets throughout the town.
- At least two other Covians must accompany you.
- Try to go during a busy hour, so as to reach the most people possible.
Task Two: Border Sentries
- Our border with the Kingdom must be upheld. You will hold a sentry somewhere along the Altmere-Templewood or Altmere-Britain border, stopping travelers and charging them a small fee (10 shillings) for the upkeep and security of the roads.
- At least two other guardsmen must accompany you.
