Seargeant Raiden Morana's Evening Training - Shields

In Attendance:
Grenadier Sergeant Raiden Morana (Leading)
Dragoon Sergeant Hoagie
Dragoon Corporal Zoie Hayden
Officer Cadet Eve
Regular Scout Drachir
Regular Scout Dalamar
Regular Guardsman John Dell
Junior Dragoon Flina Trix
Watchman Marcus Tel'var
Watchman Ihiniar Tel'var
Watchman Sean Greyson

Before the Training began, Sergeant Morana revealed that the Training would be about the use of shields, and how they can be used in many different situations, and not just for defence. The Sergeant assigned those of us without shields, shields from the pile which stood tall behind him, and asked those of us who already had shields, to wield them.
Sergeant Morana explained that the shield is held in the left hand, so the right hand is still able to move freely. And thus, began the training, and its lessons !

Lesson No.1 - Shields As Defence
Sergeant Morana started off the training session by teaching us one of the most popular ways of using a shield, as defence. He explained that the shield protects our body from attack and allows us to either attack with our own from above the shield or above it. As two different groups, we tried this, and it was successful overall.

Lesson No.2 - Formations Using Shields
After a short run, Sergeant Morana began lesson two, formations with shields. The Sergeant explained that an excellent formation where shields come in handy is the 'beetle' formation. This is pretty much just a box, with shields so it looks slightly more hardened than a normal box formation. We formed this around John Dell and the Sergeant seemed happy with our understanding of this lesson and moved us on to the third and final lesson..

Lesson No.3 - Shields As Offence
Sergeant Morana finished off the Training Session with this third and final lesson, Shields As Offence. He explained that Shields do not always have to be used to block attacks, but to suppress 'Civil Unrest' and situations such as these.
Coincidently, there happened to be a hooded man standing watching (and scribbling) and so the Sergeant decided to ask him for help. The task was to use our sheilds, and the sound of them clashing with our weapons, to move Sergeant Morana and the innocent bystander, to where we wanted them to go. The sound was so loud that it made the mountains around Cove tremble, so I'd say this task was also a success.

With the third and final lesson learnt, Sergeant Morana finished off the Training session with a quick question-answer, with us. The response was good, and lengthy..

The training in progress - kitted up and ready to learn !!
