Character Profile:

Appearance:

The Baron is a middle aged man, and at first sight it is clear he has endured little hardship. His face is clean shaven and devoid of the usual warts and boils that plague the local peasantry. The Baron’s face is dominated by the two noticeable features, which are the set of somewhat beady green eyes and the larger than average nose which he uses to his great advantage as he looks down on the locals with great disdain with it.

In height the Baron is quite tall, though not overly so, and his body is kept in reasonable shape, though far less toned than that of your average member of the Covian army. It would be fair to say the Baron is muscular, though these muscles obviously lack the raw strength of someone in manual work. Women would probably find the Baron over all to be rather plain, yet the air of wealth in conjunction with the obvious abundance of confidence and on demand charm make him a somewhat appealing character.

Work Description:

The Baron is first and foremost a noble and enjoys the many privileges of wealth and power. Yet, his job can at times be a stressful one as he rules over his ever expanding and contracting lands and must deal with the many mundane and extraordinary situations that occur within these lands. Though the Baron can at times be lazy with more trivial matters of state, when it comes to decisions of importance he can often put a lot of thought into the best possible outcome for Cove – as well as of course, himself.

The Baron has a vested interest in the well being and happiness of Cove and its citizens, and as such acts in their best interests most of the time. On occasion he has been known to act for personal gain, yet on others he has fiercely defended the morals and values of the Covian people and acted solely in their best interest.

Personality:

The Baron shares many traits that the majority of Britannia’s nobility posses; he is arrogant and used to being treated with respect. He is also dangerously short tempered and well known for tantrums when things don’t go to plan. To those who serve under him, he is often rude and occasionally sadistic. The Baron also expects the best from those around him, and does not take kindly to failure or worse yet, compromise. He does however reward those who do succeed handsomely with titles and office and will continue to reward them as long as they meet his expectations.

Despite all these negative traits, when he wishes to be he can be quite charming and put others before himself – these occasions however, are few and far between and most likely are merely a guise to benefit himself and Cove.

Background:

The Baron is a true Covian by descent, coming from the long line of the Von Richter family, which was at his time of birth, merely a lesser noble family in the service of the King. As a child the Baron was spoilt, and often took pleasure in picking on those children weaker than himself. In a town that was zealously religious, the Baron was not subjected to any of the usual teachings of the Covian church by his family who were openly decadent and atheist. If the Baron was aware of what a church was, he certainly was not aware of its purpose.

It was clear to the Baron that even from an early age a position of servitude to the King in a lesser noble family was not to his liking – and through strength of vision, and at times ruthless play, he managed to rise to become the leader of the what was then, small fishing village.

Shortly after his rise to power, the Baron’s father was murdered by an unknown attacker

Reputation:

To most the Baron is regarded as any other ruler would be regarded, the masses are generally divided on the subject of his leadership. Some disprove of his style of rulership, while others vigorously defend his rule, yet there are only a few who are motivated to actively work for, or against his rule.

Motivation/goals:

The Baron is not motivated by wealth, like most nobles, although will on occasion work towards it to further his ends. The Baron first and foremost wants power; to ever expand Cove and make it a greater nation in which the people lead happy and prosperous lives. How he achieves this end is unimportant to him, and who is killed or hurt within the struggle is no concern of his. Octiovus has risen above his station in life to get this position, and forge Cove into a force to be reckoned with and will fight to keep this position and to expand his power ferociously.

Quotes:

“The Captain is dead? No bother. We’ll get a new Captain, a better one!”

“What do I think of nations OUTSIDE Cove? Pah, it’s all raging hordes of barbarians outside of the walls. They’re uncivilized, petty, and worst of all – they have no taste in wine.”

House Von Richter:

  • Octiovus Von Richter – The Baron himself.
  • Shadwell – The Baron’s best friend and personal aide.
  • Raziel Richter – Bastard heir to the throne of Cove.
  • Kendall Richter – Cousin to Octiovus, currently in active service with the Covian army.
  • Rex Richter – Disowned relative. Relation unknown.

Lore and miscellaneous:

The portcullis is the symbol of both Cove and the Barons personal crest.
