Of course, this isn't the only reason I've been away so long; if anyone's that bothered I'd be happy to fill them in on ICQ.

However! One of the reasons is that something's wrong with the computer, and I can't seem to fix it. "svchost.exe" error, and a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services error" (or something), are plaguing my machine. My taskbar reverts to "Windows Classic" despite still saying "Energy Blue" in control panel, I'm losing sound, often if I try to play a game I'll just be taken back to the desktop.. it's annoying.

So.. I downloaded some software that supposedly fixes it ($19.99 too), but it didn't, and eventually I took the computer into some electronics shop to get repaired. After a few days, I got it back and was told it was my antivirus program - Sophos. Fair enough, I got it back and was having no problems, but after a few days I lost internet. Eventually being sent a BT Home Hub to replace my router almost two weeks later, I installed the software, and the aforementioned errors were seemingly triggered.

Thoughts?

You're infected with a virus.

I recommend reinstalling it from scratch. You may attempt to get rid of the individual virusses plagueing your machine. But you'll have more chance and consume less time simply to reinstall it

Speedy reply. Tongue

Running a Norton Full System Scan now, but yeah I'll certainly try reinstalling the Hub.

Running an anti-virus software will aid you litte: more then likely the anti-virus software has been altered to 'ignore' the virus on infection

Reinstalling the hub will do little as well given it's your PC that's infected

I'm afraid reinstalling your PC will be the more speedily

If it's a branded pc (Dell/Hp, IBM, etc) it should have come with a reinstallation CD. Otherwise you'll need to locate the copy of Microsoft Windows you used to install it in the first place...Reboot with CD in the drive and follow instructions

I was about to say:

And if that doesn't help, try peeing on your PC!

Could also be a bug.
Open your cd-rom drive and spray bug-repellant in your pc, not guaranteed to work though!
If that doesn't work and it's indeed not a bug but a virus then I recommend pouring hot chicken soup in your cd-rom drive and have it rest for at least 24 hours before turning it back on.

One solution as far as I am concerned.

Reinstall, and get proper Anti-Virus, Firewall and Anti-Spyware programs installed. AVG Free, Zonealarm & Ad-Aware is recommended.

Well, my people, the BEST and ONLY approved method to fix a broken Window$, is to use the "drag&drop" technology:

Drag the bastard on some high mountain, and drop the bugger off the cliff...

Works 99% of the times (depends on height of the mntn)
