When: Friday 23 February
Where: Cove, Moonglow Lycaeum, the Savage City, the Gargoyle City

Co-ordinated by: Reynard Destain, Bishop of Cove

Led by: Raiden Morana, Grenadier Corporal

Attended by:

Hoagie, Dragoon Sergeant
Lyoko BladeWind, Guardsman Recruit
Dalamar, Regular Scout
Marcus Kobra, Guardsman Recruit
Brandy Arrowsnap, Guardsman Recruit

The following has been scribed from the accounts of the Guardsmen who undertook this quest.  I explained the nature of this holy quest to the guardsmen present and instructed Corporal Morana to lead them.  They were sent to the Moonglow Lycaeum to recover the book of Honesty, one of the eight books of Virtue.

Once there they met with an ancient mage named Tobus, and asked if he knew of this book.  It transpired that this mage not only knew of the book, but was in fact the subject of the book.  Having thus read the Book of Honesty it doth seem to be about a mage named Tobus.  It doth seem that after inspiring this tale of honesty, he fell into wicked ways and used his arts to sustain a long life, attempting to thwart Avatar's Will.  He removed the book of Honesty from the library and handed it over.  A colleague of his then appeared and returned the Guardsmen to Cove.

They met with me in the Church and handed the book over.  They then made mention of the sword.  It appeared this old mage had one of the eight swords of Virtue in his possession!  Each of the subjects of the eight books were given such a sword, though all the other subjects have long since died.  It doth appear these swords were constructed ere the time the King established the Virtues, but before the shrines were completed.  As such, the swords were never sanctified to the specific virtue.

Having chastised the imbeciles for not bringing this sword, I sent them back to Moonglow to recover it from this mage.  Such a holy artifact must be protected by the church, not some feeble old fool.  The Guardsmen arrived but found that their unthinking stupidity had cost them dear.  The mage Tobus had been murdered and the sword stolen.  Fools!  Incompetant fools!

This colleague of Tobus gave a description of the murdering swine.  Barbarian savages in white paint.  They had left a tribal mask behind also.  It seemed one of the murderers was a warrior, the other a wytch-shaman.  The Guardsmen then travelled to the Savage City in Ilshener where they encountered this shaman and other infidels of his tribe.  The shaman claimed a Gargoyle named Telax was responsible for ordering the theft of the sword.  The shaman then attacked the Guardsmen and was subsequently sent to explain his vile sins to Avatar in person, the sword retrieved.

The Guardsmen then treked, without getting lost I am told, to the Gargoyle city where they soon met this Gargolye Telax.  It doth appear he was awaiting the savages.  The whole sordid tale was then told.

It doth appear that Telax was the brother of the Gargoyle ambassador sent to Britannia.  In exchange for the Book of Honour, the Covians assigned to that holy quest were asked to escort the ambassador to the Gargoyle city.  They returned to Trinsic and told the paladin there they had been successful and retrieved the book of Honour.  But it now transpires the Gargoyles found the remains of their ambassador near to their city.

This Telax appeareth to have taken this personally and it can be assumed the paladin in Trinsic was contacted.  Thus knowing the Covians were seeking the Books of Virtue, he had spies monitor the likely locations and acted to thwart Avatar's Will.  The Gargoyle then attacked the Covians and was thusly slain.  The matter appeareth closed, but it may be some time before we know what other mischief this Gargoyle miscreant hath done, possibly to the other books of Virtue.

The Guardsmen, in a rare show of competency, made it back to Cove and handed over the sword.  Alas, I discovered it hath not been sanctified.  It could thusly be corrupted in the wrong hands.  I shall endeavour to discover how to sanctify it in Avatar's Name.

In Nomini Deus,

Father Reynard Destain
Bishop of Cove

[ooc: Thanks go to all who came and especially to Raiden who led things.  Apologies for the delays, I had some extreme lag and disconnects which made the char-switching timeconsuming.  Also, apologies for the Shaman confrontation not going as planned, I didnt know until the time that tribal paint doesnt work on characters under a disguise kit, else I'd have had the confrontation inside the city.]

The Book of Honesty

By Redren Mallor

In the city of Moonglow there lived a young apprentice mage named Tobus.  This city was a gathering place for mages, and Tobus aspired to learning this arcane art.  He persevered in his studies at the Lyceaum and eventually gained the attention of an archmage named Ronan Firespring, a knowledgable but vain and prickly man.  The archmage took Tobus under his wing and taught him much of magery.

One day the pair travelled to Britain, as Lord British's mage, Nystul, was giving a lecture.  They arrived easily, using their arts, and rented a room at the inn.  Ronan was eager that the pair look their best, as he hoped to impress Nystul and gain an appointment at the castle.  He spent a lot of his coin on brand new robes and hats for the pair, sparing no expense.

The evening of the ball arrived and the pair dressed in their finery and attended the castle. Britain impressed Tobus, but he was in a dilemma.  Ronan was a fine mage, but his tastes in fashion were not so well-developed.  Ronan thought the pair looked impressive; Tobus thought they looked comical.

They arrived at the Ball and socialised with the other guests, most of whom struggled to hide a smile at the elderly Ronan in his garish orange robe.  As the guests got more and more drunk, one made a comment about the robe.  Incensed, Ronan beckoned for Tobus to attend, and defend the robe.

Tobus was in a dilemma.  He was loyal to Ronan, and struggled between being kind and defending the robe, or being honest and giving his true opinion on it.

He chose Honesty over Compassion, and offended Ronan.  He was cast out as an apprentice and spent the next several years struggling to learn the arcane arts on his own.

Thus endeth the tale of Honesty.
