Militia Duties: Securing The Shire

Well met Covian guardsmen,
Here lies a specific duty that must be completed in the forthcoming days. The Covian Shire is becoming more and more desolate, and the Militia Command has ordered that a grand fortress be erected in the heart of this plagued forest.
The Duty is perilous, and therefore MUST be completed by at least FOUR guardsmen. Venture to the heart of the Shire and set up a grand outpost there, which is equipped with bedrolls, provisions, and a fire. Then send out one or two patrols around the area, returning AT ONCE if night falls. Nay want to lose any of ye to the growing Evil that lurks in the Shire.
And so, here it is again...

Objectives:
* To set up a grand outpost in the heart of the Covian Shire.
* To patrol the local area.

Conditions:
* At least four guardsmen must be present.
* Patrols must return when/if night falls.
* Outpost must be held for at least half an hour.
* One guardsman must be in the outpost at all times.

Post a report below,
Militia Administration

(OOC: Militia Duties is a new concept aimed at promoting and encouraging freeflow roleplaying in the Militia, whilst completing the daily and somewhat monotomous chores of Cove required.
On completing this Duty, guardsmen will receive points going toward their career records. In short, this helps towards promotion. So enjoy! And test your roleplaying skills to the max! Also note, the Covian Shire is haunted!

On 5.5.05 a group of guardsmen was organized by Junior Grenadier Ryan Greystone to construct a fort and patrol the surrounding forests. This has been the first step taken to re-secure the Covian Shire from the nasties that are currently lurking therein.

This effort was attended by :

*Junior Grenadier Gimbly,

*Junior Guardsman Valiro

*Watchman Calico Kate

*Watchman Kal ShadowHand

*Watchman Kas Valentine

Most of the guardsmen attending were already well trained in the proper way to secure an area thanks to countless hours of gate duty. Valiro, Kas, and Kate set up the main part of the outpost while Gimbly, and Kal brought in hides for re-enforcement. In short order they had the fort ready.

Two separate patrols were sent out to patrol the shire. Junior Grenadier Gimbly leading one party with Junior Grenadier Greystone heading up the other. Gimbly's group took the western border of the shire, while Greystone's group patrolled the east side. They both encountered a token number of local monsters but did not see any evidence of wytchery or scary stuff. The two patrols met near the grave yard, and thought it best to beat the denizens back for good measure.

While the patrols were still busily beating the lesser undead back to a manageable level a carrier pidgin brought a note from the fort and Valiro calling the guards back to the fort. What ever it was that had troubled the Junior enough to call the others back, there was no evidence of it upon their return. In fact, while Gimbly did a few more scouting round near the fort, the others started up a dice game. At first Greystone had Valentine beaten, thanks to the lucky lady sitting beside him, but Gimbly's rolling into the game seemed to turn the tides.

Better late than never, Guardsman Tiberius showed up well into the fourth round of dice. There was momentary confusion in which most of the gambling guards blamed Valentine for starting the dice game. Instead of being upset, Tiberius dropped some coins and requested to be counted into the next round.

In conclusion, it is apparently lucky to have Kate sneeze on things, and the icky wytchy things, other than Kas, seem to have not been out this day.

(OOC: Fine report, Watchman Kate! And a good effort all round. This is exactly what the Militia Duties are all about *nods*)
