Attended by:
Regular Guardsman Kas Valentine.
Guardsman Recruit Yenril Darkeyes.
Watchman Torrak Keres.
Commoner Jessica Goldeye.
Commoner Linaeus.
Self confessed badass Sammy Hagar.

A few nights ago I dealt with some business that the new owner of the Post Office (Jessica Goldeye) had been involved in. An assault had taken place when she was dealing with the postbox of a new customer and since I had been at the building when she left with this man I was convinced he was to blame.

I searched for the man once I'd received the report of the encounter and eventually discovered him at the Goblin in conversation with Linaeus. I made my concerns known, explaining how and why I thought him responsible but as it turned out he had a cast iron alibi. He'd been "stacking crates" at the warehouse of Linaeus when the assault had supposedly taken place. I was not remotely convinced by this but gave him the benefit of the doubt and left.

The following evening I was again summoned to the postal building. Jessica had taken it upon herself to lock the man (who I later discovered to be Sammy Hagar) inside after finding him snooping around upstairs. I questioned Sammy about exactly what he'd been up to and when no suitable reasons were forthcoming I took the liberty of locking him up. I was assisted by Torrak Keres who arrived as my talk with Sammy was coming to an end.

We secured Hagar in a cell and went about trying to discover what he knew. I spoke with him initially but we'd already covered the same ground back at Jessica's place. In the end I allowed Torrak into the cell who had an extremely brief chat with the criminal and then allowed himself to be joined by Yenril. The recruit had only just arrived and insisted on being involved with the issue.

Almost as soon as Darkeyes was in the company of the accused things went from bad to worse. As Command may know this particular recruit has a way of addressing even the most peaceful of situations with a disturbing degree of aggression. Darkeyes threatened the man in the hope of learning something previously undiscovered but much to my dismay he unsheathed his weapon.

In my rush to apprehend Hagar I had forgotten to check him over so now we had a standoff between the blades of the criminal and the recruit with Torrak in the background loading his crossbow. The next series of events is the reason for my report. In the process of arming himself to subdue the accused Keres accidentally let a bolt fly which hit Yenril and floored him. Sammy took advantage of the mistake and took the Watchman hostage before making good his escape.

Immediately Torrak and I conveyed Yenril to the hospital in an effort to put him to rights. However he was not breathing and when I checked his wrists I could find no pulse. We tried everything in our power to revive him. We pumped his chest, his throat and attempted to seal the grievous wounds. It is with great sorrow that I admit our attentions to have been in vain.

We announced Yenril dead after a good fifteen minutes of trying to bring him round and covered his body with a sheet. Should Command wish to administer punishment for this failure I would like to nominate myself. It was my word the guardsmen worked upon and I accept full responsibility.

For the time being the body of the recruit has been left in the hospital, but it was my hope that we could submit him to a proper grave as soon as possible.

Signed with respectful handwriting,
Regular Guardsman Kas Valentine.

* Marcus walks up and read the report then hangs his head*

Damn another statistic. . . well they can't all live to be watchmen.
