Righto, it's that time again, the help jen fix her template time! So at the moment it's looking like:

110 archery
110 anatomy
110 tactics
100 focus
90 healing
80 hiding
80 stealth

I read that having anatomy and tactic above gm for an archer is pointless.. Is this the case? If so um thinking of dropping themto 100 and grabbing maybe 60 ninjutsu.. Is that any use To an archer!?

Help plix.

Take it from a soon-to-be legendary ninja, ninjitsu is pants in anything but a dedicated assassin template which means sacrificing most of your survivability and durability and learning to play a specific way.

In your average template, certainly with 60 odd, you'd pretty much never use it. The occasional shadow jump and rat form maybe? Idk.

And nobody needs 100 focus.

Meditation is where it's at, really. You can achieve pretty much the cheapest possible special moves with an archery stealther template and still have a wod of skill points left over. I used to have 105 fencing on Tuvia for the hell of it and the occasional disarm but I got rid of it and now have meditation and love it. Just blamo, blamo, blamo, blamo, concussions over and over.

Declan O'Connor's template (which should be visible on my uo) is basically what I've stolen and recommend to Thf archers.

Think im going to be looking at something like this:

110 Archery
110 Tactics
110 Anatomy
90 Healing
80 Hiding
75 Stealth

80 Meditation
60 Focus

That seems to give me pretty good mana regen then.. 1.20 per second or something.. according to stratics.. >.<

You're going to be in all leather, right? No need for your hiding and stealth to be that high. 40 Hiding/80 Stealth will suffice. A little higher on the Hiding side if you want to be able to hide on the run a little more reliably.

Unless you want to keep failing hiding all the time then you do need higher hiding.
I think the best archer templates have 120 Archery as then your sure never to miss a shot really.

I've started changing Aliryl into a ninja/fencer but its going to take a long time as I don't really spend time training skills.

I really recommend higher hiding if you're a scout.

I'm not very keen on these templated with 40 hiding, it just seems abit OOC almost.

I'll write my template to save you abit of time.

115 Archery
110 Anatomy
110 Tactics
75 stealth
100 healing
80 Hiding
70 Meditation
60 Focus

I only have a +20 stat scroll, but my stats are... 90/100/60

It seems to be the best I can get out of that template, I've been playing it for ~2 years or so.

Hope that helps.

There is no reason whatsoever for your hiding to be that high if you're wearing all leather. I fail to see how only having enough hiding skill to have a 70-80% or so chance of success in the gear you intend to use is OOC behavior - its just an efficient allocation of skill points.

Geralt Swift has (or had, before I moved some stuff around);
100 Archery
100 Swords
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Healing
100 Focus
80 Stealth
40 Hiding

I could probably drop focus and healing a little, hide to let mana regen in emergencies, use enhanced bandies for the +10 healing bonus, and get away with 120 Archery. His stats are 100/100/50.

I can hide on the go with satisfactory success rates, and if I need 100% success chance (such as when fleeing for my life from unstoppable monsters in PvM) I can just shadowstrike a rat or goat. Meanwhile, it allows me to have a versatile template perfect for hit-and-run fighting.

I'd have strong words with any member of Thf that was locking their hiding at 40 (and by that I mean I'd make them change it regardless of their opinion =P.)

For a start, on a technical level, doesn't the amount of hiding you have effect the distance you can hide from somebody targetting you? I'm sure I read this years ago back when the changes to hide and stealth were made and stealth was brought down to a 50 hiding requirement.

As a hit and run character that's frequently targetted (Tuvia / Hedlyn because they were in charge and Su-mi because she's chuffing annoying) I find reliable hiding invaluable and make a habit of darting into the tree line to break off and hide, reset the encounter and come again. That's what made Rbl succesful. That's hit and run.

But it's the roleplay issue I'd take fault with really. It's effectively metagaming, gimping out your template to bare minimums because of what's - ultimately - poor game writing on EA's part, really. It doesn't make sense and it shouldn't really work the way it does.

You can track almost everyone in the game with JOAT because that's another skill EA have royally fecked up , it doesn't mean you should do so in fact, again, back in the Rbl scenario both Grd and Rbl agreed to not exploit tracking and put a ban on the use of the skill (unless, of course, people were actively training it higher) as there was in the Crossroads of Yew community.

As roleplayers we self moderate, we occasionally sacrifice our gimped out templates because they don't make sense and we w ish to prioritise being "characterful" over squeezing in a few more points here and there in our templates.

**

And to be honest, when I look at your Geralt Swift template it somewhat baffles me anyway. If you want to "gimp out" you've gone a bit mental. For a start, higher hiding (for the reasons stated above) is damn useful but secondly you're effectively wasting a massive amount of points on swords, focus and healing and arguably 5 on stealth.

Tuvia (and Hedlyn, as they're clones - not in any odd COLL super tech sense but just, yknow, identical templates) used to have 105 fencing and 105 archery because I kept convincing myself "it's useful for the occasional disarm" but it was ultimately just bollocks. I never used fencing and for a very good reason - archery's just feckin' awesome. You'd be far better off lumping a couple of power scrolls on archery (because EVERYONE'S scrolled these days and the miss rate with 100 is irritating as hell), tactics and anatomy and dropping the melee skill completely for something like meditation.

You'll find you've then got ample skill points spare to throw up your hiding to a decent (and I mean that both technically and morally) level.

Just to add input, my template as a Scout was:

110 Archery
100 Hiding
80 Stealth
100 Healing
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
50 Focus
90 Meditation

I liked to be completely assured with my hiding, and I found focus didn't help much. I kept the meditation high and I also didn't see any use of my Anatomy and Tactics being over GM. It didn't seem to make a difference, so I put those points into Med and Hiding.

Tactics and anatomy are nice with archery if you're going to properly min-max your toon, using a slow weapon you generally want to maximize the damage of every hit you land. Actually hitting is more important, though, so archery's probably a priority.

Just a tip, Focus' mana regeneration works in groups of 20ies, so 50 focus gives you no more than 40.

I suggest 60 focus and 80 med, you don't lose any mana regen at all, and you don't waste 10 points. Smiley

Hmm so focus and med? I was running maccen with 100 Focus, and only 40 mana, the regen is nice and I can pop numerous specials in rapid enough succession. But hes also not a PvP temp at all. Hes actually an Alchemist, I'd love to throw bombs at you all buuut Its simply not in my guild rules Tongue But I built him as a Fence/Archer, and I exploit JOAT in order to hide when ever it arrives, if that makes me a "bad" or "poor" RPer, heh well not everyones opinions are the right ones. But I will have to look into this med/focus Combo.

Cheers.

I like alot of mana regen, and I can pretty much spam concussion about 8/9 times in a row before I need to wait for mana.
