I'm sure Irwin would be honored so many internet junkies would superficially grieve for his loss.

It's too bad he's dead. I'm a huge animal-nut freak myself, though I always thought he was a little over-hyped. I'm just glad he died doing what he loved and wasn't over-poetically killed by a crocodile, or under-dramatically killed by some sort of raging infection from scraping his elbow on a rusty nail.

I have respect for him. He never apologized in 2004 when he was filmed holding his new baby son in one arm while he fed a crocodile with a dead chicken with the other. Huge anti-child abuse support groups slandered him for months, but the man knew exactly what he was doing and was convinced the child was in no danger. Here's to you for maintaining your sense of pride instead of kissing the public's ass in favor of their opinion.

Damn.

Perhaps one of the toughest and fool hardy blokes I've ever seen on television.
He should have died many times before, but didn't.

I thought the guy was immortal.
But yeah, seconding Veldrin's words "doing what he loved".

Don't get me wrong, it's sad when some one dies, especialy a family man... I just think it's amazing he hasn't died before now.  Every time I've ever seen him hes been doing some thing horribly unsafe around animals. Most people think "wow cool! Look at what hes doing, he really knows what it's all about!" But that's just not true. He just wasn't afrade to take outrageous risks, and I think he started beliving his own hype. As a vets assistant and farm girl I know there are a lot of things I can get away with around particular animals, my trust old ponys, or a sweet neibor dog, but the first time you ignore common safty percautions i.e. letting a horse know your comming up on it's blind side, your asking to get kicked in the head.

It's sad his two kids lost their dad, but at the same time they will probably live longer now that he isn't around to "introduce" them to any critters.

I don't like the idea that Terri Irwin will no longer continue persuing the goal of protecting wildlife, or not let her kids near animals. What happened to him was a freak accident, and he's been in far more dangerous situations that he lived through because he knew what he was doing. He died because he wasn't paying attention and made a mistake. Keeping his two kids away from animals now would be understandable, but not completely logical. I hope that she and her children continue to persue the same career path and continue Steve Irwin's dream.

Fortunately, Steve's dad is still around, and it was his parents' dream that Irwin shared and based his career on. Hopefully, his dad can help Terri out and give her some guidance and some much needed comfort. Steve's mom died only a couple of years ago, so that family has a lot of pain to deal with. I hope they can pull through.
