This idea for an event on an ongoing basis is founded on two tenets:

- Anyone can participate, regardless if a new character or an old veteran
- The event can be opened to non-Baronship members as a basis for inter-guild interaction

THE HUNTER'S LEAGUE

A series of skilful events, taking place over a 6 week period, challenging the participants to prove themselves in the virtues of the hunter. There would be a league table, post-event tavern night, and a final week awards ceremony.

The skills each participant would be tested on are:

- stamina
- guile
- deduction
- bravery
- patience
- luck

WEEK ONE - The Trial of STAMINA

A successful hunter needs to be fleet of foot and have endurance to combat the most dangerous of foes. The trial of stamina will test the prospective hunter in their ability to race a perilous course, with only their wits, two feet and barest of equipment to keep them in one piece.

Competitors, on the eve of the trial will arrive solely in the most basic of clothing. With only minor protection from a piece of cloth headwear allowed, each participant wil have their backpack checked to make sure it is empty, and then be given 3 potions of healing, and one to refresh their stamina.

After a brief explaination that the Baronship cannot be held accountable for any injuries sustained on the race, they will be taken to a mystery location within Britannia (OOC: in Trammel to ensure participation for all). Once there, they will be given a destination they have to race towards, and rough directions.

Stewards from the Baronship will oversee the race leaders from horseback to ensure no cheating is involved.

The course will have dangers from the local wildlife, and all the competitors have is the supplied potions to keep themselves alive.

At the end of the race the following points are awarded:

1st place: 20 points
2nd place: 10 points
3rd place: 5 points
All competitors outside the top 3: 2 points

1st place bonus reward: 25,000 gold piece check is awarded to the victor. The league table of  the results is displayed for the week with the details of the following week made available.

WEEK TWO - The Trial of GUILE

A successful hunter needs to have the knowhow to survive in the wilderness. Whether that be to find a wild flower with healing properties, or seek out the sap of a tree with life-giving water, the ability to find resources and items is key to their very survivial.
The trial of Guile will test this knowledge to the limit.
At the start of the event, each competitor will be given a book with 20 items to be found within a one hour time limit. These will be diverse to ensure no specific character profession will have an advantage over any other. Items asked for could range from 5 bandages dyed dark blue, to a piece of fertile dirt or a map of any area to the east of Minoc. Competitors may engage in negotiations between them to swap items, which could be an interesting test of skill in itself.
Each competitor must return before the hour is up, with as many items off the list as possible.

At the end of the quest the following points are awarded:

Every competitor gains 1 point per item found.
Any competitor gains 5 points if they found all 20
The first person to return with all 20 items gains a bonus 10 points
The second person to return with all 10 items gains a bonus of 5 points

1st place bonus reward: 25,000 gold piece check is awarded to the victor. The league table of  the results is displayed for the week with the details of the following week made available.

WEEK THREE - The Trial of DEDUCTION

To be a true hunter, you must be able to read the signs and portents of the forest. You must have the intelligence to understand the sounds of wildlife, and the deductive ability to understand the abstract language of nature. The trial of deduction will do just this; test your ability to glean the truth, from the mysterious.

Each competitor at the start of the test will be given one hour, and a riddle. The riddle will lead them to the location of a second riddle. The location of the second riddle will lead them on to a third, and finally the location of the third riddle will contain one last riddle - the location of the fourth place to visit, and the final riddle.

Once the competitors have got to the fourth riddle, they are to return to the starting point with their answer.

At the end of the quest the following points are awarded:

Every competitor gains 2 points for taking part
The first person to answer the riddle earns 20 points
The second person to answer the riddle earns 10 points
The third person to answer the riddle earns 5 points

1st place bonus reward: 25,000 gold piece check is awarded to the victor. The league table of  the results is displayed for the week with the details of the following week made available.

WEEK FOUR - The Trial of BRAVERY

The tales of a hunter are legendary. Stories told around the campfire of danger and peril are those of mythical proportions, and the greatest of hunters share the greatest of tales.
Prior to the event, the nature of this trial will be shared to all. Competitors are to take turns taking to the side of the campfire, and sharing the tallest of tales of bravery with the judges and onlooking throng. The tales are not expected to be true, but they are expected to be fantastic and entertaining. They will be judged on how they entertain the crowd and how amazing their tale of heroism is.

At the end of the storytelling the following points are awarded:

Every competitor gains 5 points for taking part
The judge's overall favourite gains bonus 20 points
The judge's overall second favourite gains bonus 10 points
The crowd get to vote on who they want a bonus 5 points to be awarded to.

1st place bonus reward: 25,000 gold piece check is awarded to the victor. The league table of  the results is displayed for the week with the details of the following week made available.

WEEK FIVE - The Trial of PATIENCE

The true hunter needs the patience of a saint. To wait for their prey, to seize the right moment, to track down their target. Patience is indeed a virtue many would say, and none need it more than the hunter.
In this test of patience, all participants will be put to task against the smallest of prey - the wily creatures of the sea.

Each competitor will be given a fishing rod, and taken to a pre-chosen location where they are to test their skills of reflexes and patience within the murky environs of the ocean. They will be given half an hour to catch as many fish as possible from the waters below.

No practicing fishermen or women are allowed! (OOC: no skill above 0 is accepted - no idea if you can catch fish with 0 fishing, but I certainly hope you can. Will rewrite this one if not. Don't expect many people to have any fishing skill).

At the end of the tourney the following points are awarded:

Every competitor gains 1 point per fish caught
The competitor with the most fish gains a bonus 10 points
The competitor who comes second gains a bonus 5 points

1st place bonus reward: 25,000 gold piece check is awarded to the victor. The league table of  the results is displayed for the week with the details of the following week made available.

WEEK SIX - The Trial of LUCK

More true than anything else, luck will play a part in every hunter's life. Whether that be missing that poisoned dart, or catching the loose branch as they fall off the cliff's edge - luck can and does make the difference between life and death. The trial of luck will test the competitors ability to survive in a deadly and chaotic environment.

As with the race, all participants turn up in simple clothes, and no more than a cloth hat for protection. Each persons backpack shall be searched to ensure it is empty. On doing so, they will all be handed 20 potions of Greater Explosion.

When all competitors are suitably equipped, they will be taken to a secret location and the truth revealed.... using only the exposion potions they carry, they are to knock out all other competitors and somehow manage to dodge all the other people's explosions themself. The luckiest will survive. No skills of any sort may be actively used (such as hiding). (OOC: a non war ring character will be hidden in the area to oversee the event)

At the end of the trial the following points are awarded:

Every competitor gains 2 points for participation.
Last man standing gains a bonus 20 points
Second to last man standing will gain a bonus 10 points
Third to last man standing will gain a bonus 5 points
In the event more than one person is left standing when there are no potions left, surviving competitors will gain a bonus 5 points each only.

(All competitors are considered knocked out by the explosions, not killed).

1st place bonus reward: 25,000 gold piece check is awarded to the victor. The league table of  the results is displayed for the week with the details of the following week made available.

WEEK SEVEN - The overall ceremony

The ceremony will be held in a place of choosing of the Baron, official sponsor of the tournament.

After a speech, the prizes are handed out to the winners, or representatives of the winners.

1st Prize: 200,000 gold pieces plus (some sort of gift)
2nd Prize: 100,000 gold pieces
3rd Prize: 50,000 gold pieces

Screenshot is captured for marketing, as well as overall winners speech.

This is followed by festivities of a banquet, bards playing music and general entertainment.

Week 8 there is no event.

The Hunter's League cycles back to Week 1 on the following week.

---------------------------------------------------------------

This is just an idea of an event, that could be used internally for fun, or could go external to allow other guilds to participate and promote interaction and our name as a guild. It was designed such that any character could participate, though the fishing one may need refinement. The Trial of Guile is similar to that run by The Guardians of Yew (Petra Fyde) many years ago, and the event as a whole was run by me in a different online game with much fun had. Due to time constraints, I wouldn't be able to run this event now.

I've no idea if you feel this fits with the ethos of the guild, but I'm hopeful it would be a fun and rewarding event if undertaken.

OOC:
A VERY interesting idea. I admit I've only had a chance to scan through the material as I'm on a tight deadline to draft up my next copy of the Poste, but I see this event definitely happening in the near future.
I'll liase with ye further over pigeon, Camb!

Well, by the sounds of what you're telling me, you are pretty hot yourself and stand a good chance of getting her I reckon. (Don't tell anyone I told you you're hot, or you die a grizzly death).
