Ive been in since yesterday...tried it...and ....I dont like it at all...now its BETA...so ill wait n see what it is at release...but for now...I cant even log in to KR its so bad...yuck.

Well from what ive "heard" the optional thingy is only for a time. After a while you will have to play in KR....Im not 100% sure of this.

But I am 100% sure that you wont be able to play any future expansions without the KR client.

EA has confirmed that you will be allowed to play on the 2D client at least until the update following Stygian Abyss, after that 2D won't receive anymore updates and thus you will no longer be able to play on it.
