News from Kingdom Reborn and the new Add-On Stygian Abyss

There will be NO Dwarves in UO!   {o.ô}

UO Kingdom Reborn will be FREE, Stygian Abyss however will be like any other expansion and will be a purchasable upgrade (no amounts mentioned) in which the Gargoyle race will be introduced along with: new abilities, UO's Largest Dungeon, new monsters, new skills, new magic, new craftables, new pets, new quests, and new housing sets. ...

It's like they don't know actual role players exist in UO. Or they would put a race in that people plays/would be wanting to play;
Skeleton; Orc; Dwarf; etc etc


I'm probably wrong though! I'm sure there are a lot of kinky Trinsician's that wish to play as a Gargoyle.

That's true. Although they're ugly, but so are elf's so what are you going to do.
But whatever else race people might wish to play, tiny folk or whatever.

I don't understand why people want other races...You need about 40-50 Magery or Necromancy to be able to play:

Orcs, Gargoyles, Liches, Skeletons, Trolls, Lizardmen, Werewolves, ect etc

Beside dwarves, people who want races only want cool new abilities...Who gives a feck what 'race' gets them :)

I'm wondering how overpowered they'll be. Let's face it, every expansion brings an ever 1337er skill to UO. Gargoyles could be fun though, persecute them and put them in happy camps in Felly!

The video of the new Ultima Online Kingdom Reborn is now up on youtube, it's in several parts so to watch it fully you'll need to click "more from this user" and go from there. I have to admit I was rather skeptical about this at first, but it does look very exciting from the video.

I've created a summary of some of the keypoints for people who don't really want to sit through this (it's over an hour, and features some pretty annoying accents and imbecilic questions):

- There will be no dwarves.
- The guild system will remain the same.
- A hotkey system will be introduced and as a whole the interface will be more streamlined; the backpack will become a list and there won't be buttons cluttering up your screen.
- There's going to be a lot of updated graphics which look quite cool, the paperdoll and the in game avatar are revamped, all tiles and monsters etc. Additionally there's some interesting new graphical elements like running water and so on.
- There'll be some new items introduced with this expansion.

Hopefully UO will get a semi-realistic medieval look again!

... You don't need to pay for UO Automap, if that's what you meant. And UOassist is worth the 10$

Yes, of course, UOAM is free, there was a missing "have" in front of 'uomap'...

But the point was that you need additional software to use some functions, which as life shown, are much needed ingame.

BTW Khae, you have a contract of cooperation with Veldrin on pointing all possible mistakes? ;)

Well, although the mega-greatness of UO, one of things I was thinking before obtaining the game was:
"Damn, sounds f*ckin' awesome... But the graphics... The weird isometry..."
I'm most far from the ppl that look at a screenshot, say "GFX suxx" and doesn't even touch the game, although the graphics are somewhat important.

To the point - When KR will be released, hells will be unleashed in form of discussions which UI and GFX are better - "legacy" (as devs call the actual one) or the modern one. Looking at graphs, I must say that they look great (especially spells effects), we'll see about UI. Thumbs up goes to devs for letting to choose how I exactly want to use the new UI, which new features are to be enabled or which old ones left (when I've started reading the phrase that Type-to-talk is going to be replaced with switchable chat mode, I've said "WTF'ckinF?!?!?!" but it's also switchable).

Damn, I can't wait to install it...

Well, overall it looks more and more promising, I think I'll very like the new Diablo/Baldur's Gate graphics...
But on the other hand - haven't they heard about antialiasing?? The furniture or wall edges looks very "steppy"

What I love most about this whole thing is that they didn't get get another graphics artist and a whole new style of graphics to fuck things up just a bit more (the name Todd McFarlane comes to mind). Instead what they did is look at the original concept artwork (from 12 years ago - yes from when UO was still in production) and alpha graphics and build the new client and graphics accordingly.

For those who were around during the launch and announcements of UO in 1995-1997 alot of stuff should look really familiar.

In short : I think the new client pwns. I even dig the Everquest - yes WoW copied from them - concepts they added (like inventory/hotbar and such).

I'm not sure whether I'll mainly use the new client, or the 2D client until it's finally turned off, but although the new client will take a fair bit of getting used to, it does look very nice!

WOW!! I FINALY got to see the new screenies. It looks like waht I've wanted UO to look like for the last 3 or 4 years. I'm just glad my graphics card has Transforming & Lighting... thsoe mage spells look kinda well like one of my AOs or PRs put all of the birds flares out and ignited them as one!! totally awsome looking and seems that it will "feel" lke UO still. I'm just wondering what this new look will do to our current uniforms... IF anything at all. I mean do we think command might rethink the uniform if it looks.... "diffrent" ?? Anyway, kewl stuff.

I dont like the idea of the new backpack system. I like my old cluttered one, its no fun if you dont have to hunt through your items for something small.  :'(

Yes, they said that current in-game chat system (called Insta-Chat) will remain the same (with possibility to use a hotkey to enable/disable it if you'd like, like in FPP games)

Gaaah, it's not about it... Well, it's more of a matter of how Windows will handle the new client... We'll see.

The char is called Jeremy but looks like a girl?
(either that or all men get manboobz now)

At first (before realizing it was a female avatar) I was ecstatic because it had a different face.
That is something where Iīd really like to see more customizability, otherwise like in the 2d client the only difference is gonna be the facial hair and for the rest everyone looks still the same.

The terrain looks a LOT more streamlined tbh. But I'm not sure if I'd use the hotbars, I'm a hotkey man myself (and UOAssist as well, coincedentally ;p)
