Civil War In Vesper!?
Last eve I was invited to attend an emergency meeting of the Vesper council, of which I am a member, to discuss some sort of unrest in the town. It seems Escaflowne and Van had spat their dummies out the night before at the Swaggers quiz night and it had spilled over into some sort of personal power struggle between the two.
With the meeting convened Esca' laid charges of thievery and mismanagement against Van and asked the council to vote him out as Chancellor of Vesper, no doubt wishing to fill the vacancy himself. Van of course refuted these charges but alas it is hard to take the man seriously dressing as he does and the council seemed somewhat split over what to believe.
To my eyes neither of the buggers are fit to run a town. Vesper would be better off with the bloody gorilla in charge but the decision whether or not to kick Van off the council and out as Chancellor was put to a silent vote. Each of us had to whisper the decision to Sergeant Hoagie who was an onlooker from the gallery along with Sergeant Valentine and he had the obviously very brain numbing duty of totalling the seven votes cast.
It turned out that the voting was 4-3 in favour of voting Van off the council and out as Vesper's civic leader. It was a bit of a shock to be sure. However the Swaggers had nay had their vote and word was sent for Becca to cast it. In the meantime Devante seemed intent on blaming Van's defeat on my vote. The bastard. Who's to say which way I voted? And there were 4 votes against Van so maybe the buggers need to look closer ter home rather than trying to pin their problems on Cove.
Seems to me Devante's trading company stands to make a lot of money from a civil war in Vesper and the bugger is trying to deflect attention onto Cove. Maybe he voted against Van? He was quick enough to claim his support for the Chancellor and second guess everyone else votes. I think one day me and him are gonna have a serious disagreement.
Some minutes passed with posturing from both sides until Becca arrived to cast the Swaggers vote and make it a 4-4 tie. What a shambles. Then again, it -is- Vesper. The council meeting was adjourned, though civil war seems to be on the horizon.
I did feel a little sorry for Van by the end of proceedings. I suppose he's harmless enough but I nay trust Escaflowne nor him further than I could throw them. Van started to give me some lip in the Swaggers about loyalty. He seems to forget that Vesper sold us down the river to the Loyalists at the Moot. I nay give a damn who rules in Vesper. It'll always be the same, but one of them may need the Company to turn the tide if it does come to war...
And both sides will need armour, bolts and bows. So Devante will probably be the happiest man in Vesper.
Best get the men battle ready, we'll be needed soon...
Keres!!!!*signed*Raiden, Commander.
