Guardsmen of Cove!
Your Command team would like to offer some clarification on the Guardsmen Duty system, why we have it and what you, the loyal Covian guardsmen can get out of it.
Guardsman Duties replace the old labour intensive admin system, which often required higher ranks to lead events, in order for lower ranks to fulfill their promotional requirements. However, this could hold back Recruits and Watchmen during times of low activity and so, the Guardsmen Duties were born!
All you have to do now to get closer to promotion is to pick up one of the general duties or one from the sub board relevant to your current rank and follow the instructions enclosed within.
What do I get by leading a Guardsman Duty?You get to fulfill a promotional requirement! Possibly several if you donate any gold you loot to the coffers and pen a report.
What do I get by attending a Guardsman Duty?You get to support a fellow guildmate in their quest for promotion! You may also donate any gold to the coffers to help with your promotional requirements.
What do I get by participating either way?First and foremost and most importantly of all... You get to have some fun with your guildmates! To enjoy some good old fashioned Covian roleplay and to continue your character's journey and development and develop friendships both IC and OOC.
Guardsmen Duties are not meant to be
'levels' to grind through. They are here to provide a backdrop to your character's story and advancement in the Covian army. It's not about how quickly you can knock them off doing the bare minimum required, it's about having fun. It's about being creative, creating activity and developing your character. The fact you are also fulfilling promotional requirements should be a byproduct of that, not the endgame.
Please Note: If the Command Team feels that any particular duty, event or spontaneous RP action is conducted and reported to a remarkably high standard, additional Guardsman Duty points can be awarded at our discretion.

Again, depending on your current rank, you may be able to fulfill certain requirements and as mentioned above, you may even catch an officer's eye and earn a duty mark. But we hope at the very least, you'll have fun roleplaying your Covian and create some fun for your friends too!
