- Treasures of Cove -

aim
 - introduce buglary and theft to Cove on a scale not seen before while not having it affect people too much
 - give thieves something to do without there having to be other people around to steal from

By placing locked chests in important and less important buildings in Cove, thieves can now actually steal from those places. Chests and crates created by carpenters/tinkers of variable proficiency with certain items in them give thieves a nice incentive to be active. Keys to the chests would be given to key figures and those figures can either have their key stolen or knocked and their key taken from them. This means the militia has to be more vigilant and there will be a need for bodyguard and sentries. The contents of the locked chests could be anything from gold and gems to Covian armour or perhaps church artifacts. Also, some chests could be unlocked but behind locked doors (doors with access rights). This would actually mean thieves have to infiltrate the room in order to get to the valuables, giving thieves without lockpicking also something to do.

A few ideas for locations of the treasure chests and their contents :

Barracks
 - a chest, made by a novice locksmith, with armour placed in the storage room
 - a chest, made by a novice locksmith, with weapons place in the storage room
 - a chest, unlocked, with some gold and gems, placed in the strong room (no access door)

Church
 - a chest, made by an adept locksmith, with church clothes somewhere in the church
 - a chest, made by a master locksmith, filled with tithes somewhere in the church

Tavern
 - a chest, made by a novice locksmith, behind the bar with some of the days takings

Apothecary
 - a chest, made by an adept locksmith, with full kegs or potions somewhere in the house

Kazuo's office
 - a chest, made by a master locksmith, filled with gems and gold, placed on the upper floor

Many more additions can be made

Additionally, thieves could set up events where they steal a house key from someone, making them a friend of the house, giving them access to doors they normally would not have access to.

Also, there could be chests placed at random or chests with event items for certain scenarios. An example would be that a thieves master orders his minions to steal a painting from a particular place, this painting would then be placed in a locked chest.

Needless to say, if a thief is seen stealing or trying to break open a chest, they would be arrested by the guards. This means that not only do they have to try to aquire a key or pick the lock, they also have to create diversions to keep the guards occupied.

There could also be more improvisation in events or scenarios created by this concept. For instance, a thief could break into the tavern and poison (actually poison) the liquor supply. Going further, it could be done by a thief or assassin under orders from a member of an organized crime syndicate.

If people are interrested in making a thief, let me know at cage number 150122488
(a thief would be a normal villager, with a normal life in addition to being a thief)

Those who own buildings, please post below what building you own and if you want co-operate.  Basicly your co-operation would mean the following, that you spend about 15 minutes a week in total, refilling/replacing/relocking the chests in your building every few days. Also if a chest gets break into too much, you are responsible for reporting this to the militia so it can be guarded.

Scenarios involving stealing items from people and the actual rules concerning this will follow shortly.

A final set of rules when stealing from buildings will be posted shortly.

-----------------------------------
UPDATE :

I have been contacting most of the house owners by now. Kazuo (and if the concept goes bigger I might need some additional help) will be friended to the buildings the chests are located in. A few times a week (starting with once a week) the chests will be refilled and locked so that there is always plenty of loot to be stolen. From time to time the chests will have a special event item in them, if so it will be in an engraved bag or box inside the chest, more on this will follow.

Rules when stealing from players :
(for now, limit yourself to stealing from BoC characters)

- You need to have a thieves licence (explained later on)
- Do not steal from players who are in combat (be it fighting you or someone else)
- Be always ready to face the consequences (if you get caught you can be punished or jailed)
- Only steal comodities (gold, gems, jewelry, bandages), not equipment
- Do not steal more than once from the same person in a 2 hour time limit
- If caught, do not steal again from the same person within 24 hours

Rules when picking chests

- Do not attempt to pick a chest when it is being guarded, if spotted you will be jailed
- If there are people around and they notice you stealing (this depends on roleplay) you can be jailed
- Do not steal from the same building more than once every 48 hours
- NO TELEKENESIS to disarm traps, if you are caught casting the spell everyone who sees you has a free shot at knocking you! Train up the trap disarm skill instead!
- When hit by a trap you are to roleplay being injured from it for a period of 24 hours

Other rules

- Thieves licence, this means you have to made yourself known as a thief to an employer (currently this is Kazuo Shinrai)
- Try to keep things fair, stealing from the same person too often is no sport, try to maintain some diversity Wink
- No complaing when jailed or knocked, IC the Baronship has zero tolerance for thieves. If you do have a problem however, contact me personally and we can at least talk about it.
