Small Hours, Saturday, 23rd September 2006In the small hours of this morning - probably around one hour past midnight - Junior Scout Sanderson organised a training session for the two remaining recruits still on duty, Jenna and myself, subsequent to our
gate sentry. Important in several ways - from maintaining our proper preparation for, and awareness on, the field, and increasing our skill at keeping our comrades alive and our enemies at bay - the training drill was significant as ever.
Commencing with basic equipment checks, Junior Sanderson called for the revealing of each essential piece of equipment; these being ‘light sources’ (torches), bandages, bedrolls, and kindling, as I remembered (though personally I dislike an empty belly, and also carry rations and water!).
With that, Regular Dragoon Hoagie appeared, accompanied by Guardsman Recruit Flina Trix, though she did not partake in any training activities. Hoagie did, however, and reflecting this, Junior Sanderson chose to move on to healing practice – involving Hoagie walloping our armourless Recruit selves! This went fairly well, with a noticeable improvement in the space of a mere ten minutes.
Finally, to conclude the training drill, Guardsman Recruit Jenna and myself, working together, had a little tussle with Hoagie. In our poorer armour, we took the Dragoon head on, Jenna lasting quite a length of time alongside myself, who went on after she fell for a good five minutes. Perhaps I can blame my age, maybe my shoddier armour, but either way I did receive a knocking. A good fight it was, and a good way to finish off a generally good day!
