Well! If that wasn't a fiery response.

For your information I wasn't lying, though I certainly appreciate you telling me that I "always lie" based on the grounds of a single post.

It's true that Eason did remove the forums in a fit of anger. But if you noticed, they were never put back. Octiovus had been wanting to remove the Off-Topic forum and the only reason he never did was because of Eason, who left. So if you're going to call me a liar, then let me rephrase it. The Off Topic board was never put BACK for a reason.

It's true, Octiovus didn't like it. But have you ever stopped to think that perhaps people have reasons for things like that? He's not a crazy irrational lunatic man who sits in his throne (computer chair) laughing as he writes up crazy ideas about how to make all citizens fairy pigs and then dances around his living room in wooden shoes singing in yiddish wearing only his Baron toga and a covian cap. For all the reasons I listed before, he wanted to remove it, and he finally got his wish. Eason was the one who removed it, yes, and not for those reasons, but it's for those reasons that the Off-Topic Board has stayed gone.

The large reason Octiovus didn't like the Off-Topic Board was because the most frequent posters seldom logged in game, and I think you're a very good example, Jack Sinist. I think your post count is higher than the number of times you've ever logged in your BoC Characters. Kazuo, Khaelieth, and especially Dellamona! (while she was still even in the guild) were far more active in the forums than in the actual game. Gregor Eason has even posted more lately than he's logged into BoC.

Now as far as the contents of your post. *rubs hands together*

Quote
And when people say it keeps things from happening IC, that's also bullshit, like your first comment. People not actively playing in BoC, or simply just being bored at work can post and talk to their fellow guild members without screwing up the ooc board with ooc crap.

Minus the profanity, that's actually a valid point. People who are bored at work or school or their great aunt Rudy's stuffy house can post on the Off Topic board to everyone else. Of course I see nothing keeping them from posting on the OOC Board currently, as there are usually at least three or four active topics to put forth their opinion on. Unless you were referring to the Babble Thread which seemed to be treated like some sort of instant messenger.

However this leads back to my point of being being more active on the forums than in game. Not everyone posting will be at a non-UO-playable location, in fact the majority of them won't. "Babblers unite!" Well you should be uniting to discuss how you're going to convince us that you'll start logging in BoC more and not spending time posting on the forums instead.

Quote
When you say "we will consider it" that's also bullshit and lies. You wont consider it, not even a tiny fucking bit. Stop lying God damnit.

Not as a Command member, but as a person do I believe in never saying anything you're not willing to back up. I don't lie, Mr. Sinist, and I meant what I said. In fact when I typed it, I was recalling back to Octiovus telling me one rainy fall day, "Maybe I should put the Off Topic Board back." It already HAS been and is still BEING considered, and certainly not out of the question. Your pessimism is inspiring but Command is not inflexible and we are not closed to the opinion of the general public that we work for.

And his poll isn't silly. And his attempt to mutiny was probably just a joke.

I'm often told that people can't tell when I'm joking. I was joking too, and I'm sure Kazuo knew that at least. Maybe I should have added a smiley face at the end to clear it up.

There's your answer. I do hope your reply is a little less intoxicated and vulgar. We do have a lot of young people below 15 in BoC so I'd tone it down a little for their sakes. They get enough of that in school and from thier lousy drunkard fathers (or mothers!).

I thought it was unjustified before, but now I can see why you were banned from the F4G forums, Jack.

If people are hanging around the forums waiting for responses to their babble posts they are not in game RPing.

In my opinion that is the simple reason its not here and should not be reintroduced.

And I don't appreciate people putting words in my mouth. If you could quote where I said "always lie" in my post I would be happy to take that back. But for now, your a hypocrite. (I'm sure it's not the first time you heard that)

A sentence put wrong can start a war. No doubt yours was a lie until you rephrased it. Yes, the off topic board was never put back for a reason, thanks for saying what I already said.

Oh we both know that's wrong.

No need to repeat it, I'm not THAT slow.

I think.. your full of shit! Why? Because I'm not a good example, not at all. When I was unable to play for reasons like no internet, no game time etc I did not post as when I did when I did play. Your comparison to times logged in and times posted is slightly off and frankly it's quiet dumb. But I yes, I can honestly say I like to discuss, talk to people on forums about things, not everyone is up tight nerds thinking their too good to talk to "the people". But hey, that's just me. And your free to think whatever you want, even if your wrong. (And I will have you know, when I quit UO this time, I did not post (it is true I have posted once or twice (now, a few more times in repsons to this)) and you can simply go and check that for yourself).

If you don't want people who played and still want to keep in touch with people on the forum (yes I know they can talk in icq) then I suggest you take away the ooc board as well then.

Well, as I stated I was a bit drunk when I wrote that, I don't even recall writing it at all. Not that it condons it, not at all! Just to keep the shine up I'll keep being vulgar. And my heart goes out to the innocent 13-15 year olds that never heard a swear word before. Really, it does.

I didn't lock this thread because I thought perhaps you would have more to say than more personal insults. Evidently I was wrong, and I'm disappointed. It's a shame that your fellow Babblers didn't get a chance to say much before you ruined it for them by slinging profanity and names around. However I can rest easy knowing at least one of us made an attempt to be civil.

This isn't the first time this has been suggested, and quite frankly I doubt it will be the last. For the record, I'm not really against babble or BoC members staying in touch however in the long run I believe any sort of a babble board seems to be more trouble than it is worth. The very fact that this thread in itself took such a bad turn only goes to prove this.

This thread has been locked but I will leave this topic with a final few points. To date, no-one has actually sent me any sort of coherently composed proposal as why to the board should be reintroduced, and judging from the way the poll was actually going, it seemed that it was fairly evenly split. We've allowed some slack in the way the OOC board works to allow people to have some fun such as on the picture thread, and I think we should leave it at that. An entire board full of what is essentially garbage only goes to clog up the forum and present a tacky image to the wider roleplay community. I'm not going to go as far as to say the babble board will never be re-introduced, but certainly after this I don't see it happening in the near future.

Cheers,

Octiovus.

...and then dances around his living room in wooden shoes singing in yiddish wearing only his Baron toga and a covian cap.

OI! I tell you, do NOT mock wooden shoes!
The Dutch Intelligence Agency will hunt you down and tie you to the spans of a windmill for that!
(yes, we actually have an intelligence agency and just like a real one, they are also dumb and incompetent)

As for my presence being more visible on the boards than in game, well the reason for that is simple!

Kazuo has GM Stealth and Hiding!
and I used a hax so I don't show up in the guild roster!
*nods sagely*

Seriously though, I consider BoC to be more than just a guild I am in. At some times I don't give a hoot about the actual BoC inside UO, the guild that is. Not to slander the guild or anything, it's great, it's just that some times I got other ways to spend my time. But I always care for the people that are in that guild. The off topic board is a way for us to goof around and socialize. Yes, it has little to do with the Ultima Online part of the Baronship, I fully agree there but for me it still was a vital part of being in the guild. Just to socialize. Now, why I cannot do this in game? Well, I can, but first of all I am not a big party chat fan and my characters are to be In Character at all times, little use of playing them otherwise (unless I am like... really stoned, which happens more often that I'd like to admit). Socializing is not something you are supposed to do in game. It just means your characters are standing around while you are in party chat. Socializing is not something you do with your characters because when you do then you are still In Character, you socialize as your character and for most players (including me) that character is a whole different person and a different personality than mine. The Babble board is the place where I go to hang when I have a few minutes, when I am browsing on the net anyway I usually stop by. Just that little extra to make BoC just a little more special. It's not just roleplaying, it's about making friends.
*nods sagely*

Just my two cents!

That post as made after the initial response from Sinist to Vendrin's pose.
Hell, first I just wanted to make a witty "do not mock the Dutch we will pwn you joke" but I got kinda carried away.

I have always been on the front line of the babble board freedom fighters and have usually taken (what I thought was) a light and comical approach. As far as the personal issues that were being threwn in by some people, hey, we're all human and a board is a great way to vent! It won't be the last time this happens and everyone has just seen that this is not something typical of a babble board. Were there no OOC boards it may have happened at an IC board should a certain boiling point be reached! But look at the numerous posts the babble board had and then look at how many of those posts actually turned bad.

When a thread turns into an insult exchange, we have moderators to lock those threads and if needs be deleted. Hell, I have decided it was time to vent on the babble board before and some of my posts haven't even lasted five minutes! But after all that, I still think a babble board is worth having. Seriously, how much more work was it? The most frequent babblers were also moderators. Perhaps this could happen again, after all they always have command to answer to if -they- step out of line. And hey, I may be going on a limb here but seriously, every one here who remembers the babble board will generally remember it as a fun way to spend that extra minute.

As for us being in game instead of on the babble board, that is wishful thinking. If we wanted to be in game we would be, otherwise we'd find something else to spend our time on. Bless the Baronship for their active and dedicated members! It's their extra efford that keeps the Baronship alive and having a babble board will ultimately be their decision. All I am tryng to say here... *sniff* *breaks down and cries* Give us babblers a chance!

Roight, enough of me playing on sentiment. Just another two of my cents.
That is four cents already, I'm making an efford here!

Speaking of which, this thread was locked. I don't know how it became unlocked but it's been locked again thanks to the keen eye of Octiovus. I'd like to thank Kazuo for making his points, I'm glad someone else had the decency to post their views and leave out the slander, but this particular thread is closed from further discussion.
