First of...tell us a little bit about yourself. Do you have alts in the guild, in other guilds, is your BoC character an alt? Etc..

I personally have one UO character I play most of the time....Erik. I have a commoner called Evinyatar who's a member of BoC as well and that's it. I hardly play Evinyatar and I fully realise he's a lesser character for those reasons.

My take on it is that extremely few people are able to pull off more then one character. It takes a lot of effort to really flesh out a character and start giving it a personality that's perceived as such by others. Too often these 'alts' are shallow characters with not enough playtime or effort invested to make them unique. I believe that they lessen the overall RP experience with the abundance of shallow characters. On the other side there are quite a few interesting characters who're going to waste because they're playing on their other characters, which is a shame.

Another note is the lack of Guild Commitment, with capitals. I may be old school, but I still believe that joining a guild is a commitment. I'm no longer in command but I know very well how much effort it takes to run a guild like BoC. Members receive a lot from BoC and that would not be possible if not for the people who show the commitment refusing to have a gazillion alts floating around and simply log in where the action is. I think that's a bit shallow and once again, does not help the overall RP atmosphere.

I'd like to say I'm a 100% dedicated member of BoC....Who else can say that? Come on, I know you're out there, step up! Who's here to help build the greatest guild in history and who's here just for the ride?

Add-on:

This is also one of the biggest reasons that a citizen element is difficult to get underway and the church often misses credibility....Too many citizes/churchies are alts....I find that all the characters with not enough time and effort invested contribute very little in most cases.

Hmmm... I may be the best or worst person for this depending on your point of view Tongue

I play:

Raiden Morana, Grenadier Corporal - Trusty old Raiden, my main character - gone from bright eyed recruit to Grenadier Corporal with plenty of Gahs, Hars and ctrl-s's along the way!

Amon Jarl, Covian Citizen - My first UO character and risen through the civilian system to the rank of Citizen. Still fleshing him out in terms of personality - but a very helpful sort of chap.

Perun, Junior Scout - *smiles evily* Unfortunately she doesn't get a great deal of game time but she maybe has the most exciting personality of my characters. She is definately damaged goods.

Sallust - Get's hardly any game time and has noooo real personality development. Was part of the ECTC a while back before Khae & Jessica took a break and not really used him since except to keep my other characters in scrolls and poison.

I did, dare I say it have another alt in a rival guild for a very brief period earlier this last year but he is a blue again now and never gets used.

Sooo... I dunno. I understand what Erik says about shallow characters and the difficulties alts bring when they cant sustain areas of the guild i.e. church + civvies etc. - Sallust is a point in fact and Perun too in terms of game time but I think her "character" is worth having her around here and there.

However I like to think Amon has been good for the civilian side of things and I love "playing" Raiden Wink

EDIT: I like to think that at least 3 of my four characters add to BoC and the Covian culture and also show how committed to the cause I am Wink

I've got two characters, which I think I split the time equally between.

Khae: Well, most of you know Khae and know how he is Wink

Lil'alure: My drow. When I want to be vicious, sadistic or generally nasty, I play Lil'alure. Which is about 50% of the time. His personality is well fleshed out, and usually with a hidden agenda within a hidden agenda, which causes mildly erratic behaviour at times. Some people think Lil'alure is a girl when he's hooded, due to people paying more attention to name than anything else. Currently, Lil is a member of F^L.

Declan Innes: My oldest surviving character and the second I created. He's a mule and in BoC, but for no specific reason. I never use him for anything but crafting.

Tyron: Used to be active on him, a few might have seen him.

Valandil: My pacifist druid! Never play him.

I don't have any mains anymore as I more or less focused on UD on Hybrid. But I have had about 5 Unique characters, 3 at the same time.

I've always been loyal to BoC and only had one character till the day when the Baron went to Yew and my character followed him. And I had fun in the new guild, although most of the people that went from BoC returned, I didn't. But I still loved BoC so I made this character, now he was mainly to be like an event character but I had fun playing something completely different from John, so I let him live.

I later got a chance to have a good position in UD (Although somewhere around there I helped that blond guy start CDPL up but anyway) so I took it.

Its not really hard to play several completely different characters if you just put your mind on it and go in for it. I mean, surely that's what RP is about, pretending to be someone your not. If you have a hard time role playing two characters differently, is your first character really different from yourself in real life?

I might act like it, but I'm really not a 7ft retard. Or a stuck up smart ass either.  Roll Eyes

But like I said, I was dedicated till I either get kicked out or lead out. (I was even dedicated to Grd once Shocked)

I have two characters currently in BoC, Eve and just recently Axiana a commoner.

I wanted to experience both the army and citizenship, and enjoy trying to make them dissimilar to each other.

AVERION!!: Everyones favourite quarter Orc. Ya know it's true!

Gralsnek: Full orc and recruit guardsman, Nifty with a mace Wink

Spike Milligan: My insane character, active on him.

I have five characters in BoC, but two of them are little more than around for administrative and equipment reasons. The other three I play regularly, and I'd like to think that Tiberius, Octiovus, and Sir Hugo were all quite varied and well developed characters. While I concur not a lot of people can really pull off more than one character (which generally tends to be modelled on their own personality) convincingly, people like variety and that's what keeps a lot of people playing UO.

I play Odenetheus and Trelos (Maestro of CDPL.), and Hikage no Kumo. I think I do a pretty good job at keeping them unique.

I only have problems with one sort of characters. Horny 14 year olds who create "Half-succubus, half-drow sex fiend women." Even Veldrin has more of an idea about how women act than they do! Cheesy

I play Jenifer Feather.. at least 90% of the time.. You all know Jen and all know her personality.

I also have a character called Dylan Freewater, i use him for when i don't want to die easily and do some damage >.< He is a fully developed (in my eyes) character in that i know all the details about him and he acts completely differnt to Jen.

I agree it is difficult to play multiple characters, but not impossible... and i agree that it is hard to fully play one character if you have many... but that doesnt stop them being fully developed characters.

I've had one or two BoC alts in the past, but they've never flourished.

Its pretty much just been Eason..
Can't really split myself that well  Cheesy

And since I joined BoC (November 2004), I don't think I've joined any other Guilds. I was thrown into Command right from the beginning, so all my efforts were invested in Cove. I have left UO to play other games, however, and to level up in RL  Cheesy
