Hi ho fellow Roleplayers,

You might wonder why i -so harshly post and register on your beloved forum- is here, well the thing is
i was wondering about UO these days, Does it bring satisfaction to the RP community and hand out a healthy sum of roleplaying opportunities, or is it dull and dead-boring? Are there a rather moderate playerbase within the RP community these days or is it just babble form google-fu using?

You might not (most possibly not) know me, i have now been free from UO for about three years. And browsing you (and many others) forum made my eye water, my lust for roleplaying has laid dormant for the years without UO, and i now wish to go back and Roleplay, the big question is, Is it really worth going back? Is it really worth buy UO over once more and hand all these new hours to the evil devil of gameplay?

i would like a small resumé on the world of UO today, and if it still exist enough players to have get a few laughs and roleplay-evenings atleast a few times a week.

Sorry for barging in like this, and most of my questions may have been answered on your primary site, and some may not have. I dont expect much of an answer, as this is not the only RP forum i have found that still is populated during these dark times of UO.

Cove however was once my choice of town in UO back in the old days, and i would like to RP in that region again.

Well, what could I say.... I'm rather new to UO and such form of RPing (and whole UO) is the best internet activity I had in my entire computer-related life.

Returning to your question: I'm sure, that if I wouldn't come here, I would surely close my UO account after max. of 2 months of playing. UO is great, but it naturally got a bit unbalanced, especially in contet of trading. Here comes the fun of roleplaying. Having such huge community makes if incredibly easy to create events. Have look at our reports - hunts, bar brawls, Valentine Days party as the one recently - and many many more keep us busy all the time.

Still, if you have any doubts, download the 14 day free UO client, and come to Cove couple of evenings - I'm sure you'll stay for much longer... Just like I did Wink

Well, i already downloaded the 14-day trial, but at school right now. Might stop by Cove this evening checking the community out, i know its a normal day today. And that many are not willing to play during weekday evenings. The Activity is most likley bigger weekends than weekdays. And yes, about the new graphics, is it still the same old 2d or have they changed it as iv read at some forums, or is it perhaps choosable?

Well, it depends. The nice thing is, that we have a calendar of events, therefore many people plan they weekly schedule to be able to be online even for 30 mins to attend an event.
Have a look here: http://cove.fantasyworld.nl/forum/index.php/board,39.0.html to see what's coming up next. Some of events there are connected with military tasks (check respective boards) or citizen tasks (also got their boards).

The upcoming game expansion, Kingdom Reborn, is going to bring all the news - both new graphics and a new UI which many chooseable options. It's due spring this year.

I see, so the new graphics is not something i have to worry about just yet then. Well that does it, cove will be my first (and possibly last) step towards UO rp once again, the UO spirits are strong in me today, I cant wait for School to end...

See you in Cove then will i not?

The char-name will most likley be "Anno Lusk"
And thank you for answering the questions i asked.

Woo! Come back!  Grin

If one doesn't like the whole Kingdom Reborn graphics when they come out, they can just stick with the old 2D graphics. Because they will run both for some while

If you're playing UO just for the game then I would say don't bother, there are better games out there.
However, if you want to play it for the roleplay it has then UO is THE game for you. No other game as a roleplaying community like UO.

Personally I've been active in the roleplaying community for close to 7 years now and though my characters have had a frequent change of atmosphere (different guild, not guild-hopping but your characters eventually "grow" and move elsewhere) and right now I dare say that the CoRE community is doing really well. Plenty of rather large guilds to choose from although the pure-evil or rogue guild choice is rather limited at the moment. But hey, play your character as you see fit, if you feel like playing a brigand then you can, even if you are in a guild full of do-gooders (but beware there may be In Character consequences should you get caught).

If you need anything to get you started, let me know.

Of course do i not play UO for the game, i have played dozens of MMO games which all are better then UO in their ways. But as a #1 game withing RP UO never fails at bringing me joy and happiness.

Hey Anno, welcome back!

As for do EA bother with us roleplayers? Yea they do, we even had an interest GM called Jordan Jerrel who created several exciting events.
Jordan Jurrel the char died, not sure what happened to the player but im sure hes around somewhere, watching.. and waiting to spring another rp event on us.

They've started drowning us in gifts too, so far we've had different gifts at Christmas (x 2 actually), Valentines day and basically at Halloween. They did a trick or treat thing at halloween which was fun.

So, answer to your question:

Q: Is UO worth it nowa days?
A: Uo is a crusty old dinosaur but, YES! Definitely.

According to Mela, which i hope is a reliable resource ( Wink) you will most probably see me tonight strutting around cove!

Although, it can go another way, myself i am Running Linux (ubuntu.com) and might not be able to get the game running, but all in all, i might boot up my old 600mhz computer just to atleast try joining you for some delicious rp babble.

hope to see you ingame!
