What kind of metal and leathers are alowed for what ranks?

For example a recruit...can I use valorite weapons?

As long as it looks Iron or Shadow Iron for the weapons.

Shadow hued for armor, but I doubt you want to make a custom metal set as a recruit as the results would be crappy anyway.  Leather on the other hand knock yourself out, you'll be looking the same anyway from recruit to Hardened.  If you are wearing metal armor wait till you're Junior too make a custom armor set.  As your uniform will change drastically from Recruit - Junior.

A wooden shield? No kilt? Man-lover!

Anyway, I think that the metal should be only shadow iron, valorite in character would be much more expensive, Shadow iron is affordable and we don't get many noble recruits that can afford he luxury of comfort and durability over cheapeness unfortunately :/

So it's not only a look issue, it's a in-character issue!

In fact...The shadow iron set is pretty decent. I don't look that much down on it...And I only rarely use my val set.

And ye should at least have been a regular to be allowed special armor like shadow-dyed val armor.
