1  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Fresh from Yew - results of 3rd Yewish Games on: August 28, 2005, 06:07:21 am
OOC note: this report is blatantly stolen from the Guardsmen Militia board Smiley

The results of the 3rd Yewish games are in. This time the games where cause for controversy on multiple occasions, and tears of both joy and sadness where shed by some of the entrants.

It was a decent turn out again, with around 15 total entering.

The Events and results are as follows:

The Log role:
As so many showed up for the log role it had to be split into two qualifying rounds and a final. The top three in both qualifying round advanced into the final, where the top three from that where awarded the points. Sadly I neglected to mark down the winners of the qualifying races, however the final ended with these three men on top:
1st Nav
2nd Grief (a Covian guardsmen)
3rd Hawk

Bulldog:

Bull dog was more straight forward, little can be said expect the results where:
1st Nav
2nd Grief
3rd Leo

Wrestling:
It looked good for Covian commander Eason in this event, he was on track to pick up points as he dropped fighter after fighter, the Yewish saw this though and converged on him. Taking him down quickly and neutralizing the threat. Nav was next to followed by Sward. The first upset of the night happened next when Hawk yield and Natalie won the event. Results are:
1st Natalie
2nd Hawk
3rd Sward

Cross country run:
Finding a local crafter I asked him to start the race for me while I waited at the finish line to declare the results. Natalie took the event again with a clear win of over 5 seconds. Second place proved the second controversy of the night when Leo and Nav appeared to cross the line at the same time. It was however, after several moments of conversing with a citizen who stopped to watch decided Leo had had a trailing leg, thus Nav was given second place.
1st Natalie
2nd Nav
3rd Leo

Archer Contest:
Three groups of three where made, each group would take three shots and the top score from them would pass into the final. The groups where as follows:

Group 1 = Grief, Nunk, Leo

Controversy struck again as the footman took the group, knocking out a marksmen with almost double his score.

Group 2 = Erik Arkay, Navaska, Garand

Arkay took the group with ease.

Group 3 = Hawk, Eason, Ahmed

Hawk took the group with a relatively low score.

Final = Hawk, Leo, Erik Arkay

Erik takes the group with ease. Hawk sneaks into last place.
1st Erik
2nd Leo
3rd Hawk

Fishing contest:
Everyone was poor in this round, except Natalie who was able to pull up 5 small fish and take first place once more.
1st Natalie
2nd Nunk
3rd Nav

Scores at the end of the games where:

Natalie 9
Nav 9
Grief 5
Leo 4
Nath 4
Erik 3
Nunk 2
James 1
Rest 0

Natalie and Nav took joint gold and 10,000 crowns each
Grief took silver and 5000
Nath (for the second games running) and Leo took bronze and 1000 crowns eeach

Thank you for all who took part, and well done to the winners!
2  OOC Boards / OOC Board / Re: ONE GLORIOUS YEAR.. on: August 28, 2005, 05:58:09 am
And people said Cove cant be successful due to crappy town location, due to too many player houses outside it etc etc.

NONSENSE Smiley

Happy birthday to BoC and a big pat on the back to the leadership. A slam on the back you could say Smiley
3  OOC Boards / OOC Board / Re: Power Hour on: August 25, 2005, 06:49:22 am
This would be great. A time each Sunday when Guards and Citizens alike stick around inside Cove and not just in the barracks. Would be especially fun if there were pickpockets and criminals and the like to cause some trouble Smiley

5  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Re: Results and paintings from the Jousting Masters! on: August 22, 2005, 09:26:47 am
I've hired a dozen of painters who, having positioned themselves on the roofs of nearby buildings, really captured the spirit of the evening! Although in whole there were over fifty paintings, here you shall find only the best:

6  In Character Boards / In Character Board / Results and paintings from the Jousting Masters! on: August 22, 2005, 09:23:59 am
Ladies and Getlemen, Boys and Girls – the first Jousting Masters tournament is now over and the results are clear for all to see. The number of attendants and spectators was high, tension hung in the air and we witnessed more than one or two surprise outcomes!

Here’s the final standings:

I phase:

Hrothgar versus Tommy Nottinbury, 0:2 – A great opener round which saw the outlander from Yew defeat the local favourite. The final score doesn’t do justice to how close it actually was.

Henry Lumbard versus Nathaniel Hawk, 1:2 – Vicious joust between two outlanders.

Gotrek versus Garand, 2:1 – Although Garand had an early lead, Gotrek came back strong to claim victory.

Llemandrell versus Gregor Eason, 1:2 – The contestants were quie evenly matched, however in the end the covian proved more resilient and skilled.

Anari versus Ira Sanguistat, 3:2 – Both jousters werent about to give up easy and there were plenty of double dismounts in this one! In the end Anari landed a particularly nasty blow which knocked Ira off the horse and left her unconscious in the dirt! To joy of the most and to grief of the sadists, miss Sanguistat managed to walk out of the arena on her own in the end.

Robert Fripp versus Killian, 2:1 – A bit of a surprise this round was, to me atleast, for it began with a double dismount and then ended as my horse tripped over and Fripp landed a lucky blow to advance further in the tournament. Sadly, my mount was mortaly wounded after this one and I was forced to end its torment by putting the creature to rest.

Drachir versus Kal ShadowHand, 2:1 – Not always do the higher ranked guardsmen prevail. Although it must be noted that Drachir was buffed with various ‘brews’.

Claudius Brutus versus Grief, 2:1 – Claudius took an early lead and then managed to hold off a furious assault from his opponent. After the round Grief was stricken with grief (bwahaha) and expressed his rage on the poor mount he rode. Gregor Eason promised a hard talk with his underling after the tournament.

Tiolas versus Erik Arkay, 2:1 – Although Erik had some trouble riding and was generaly over-excited, he still put up a good fight against the late entrant Tiolas who proved to be slightly more skillful.

Phase II:

Robert Fripp versus Anari, 2:0 – Fripp continued his strong performance and won a flawless victory against his opponent.

Drachir versus Tommy Nottinbury, 1:2 – Tommy made his intentions of winning the tournament clear in this one. Drachir gave it his all but it was not quite enough.

Nathaniel Hawk versus Claudius Brutus, 0:2 – As Percival the announcer said, Brutus lived up to his name and devastated the contestant from Yew.

Gregor Eason versus Gotrek, 2:3 – This was a round filled with intrigue and tension. At first it seemed like Gregor had won, however due to a certain mistake when calling the round I was forced to disqualify the result and call it a false start. The contestants jousted on for a while more and after a lot of misses and evasions, Gotrek landed a blow and dismounted the clear favourite of the tournament.

Due to an odd number of contestants Tiolas was given a free go into the next phase.

Phase III:

Tiolas versus Robert Fripp, 3:2 – Two very evenly matched jousters fought for the right to advance! Neither had an advantage for long but in the end Tiolas proved more lucky.

Claudius Brutus versus Gotrek, 2:0 – The Beast (as he is now called) continued to devastate opponent after opponent! This time Gotrek was his unlucky victim.

Due to an odd number of contestants Tommy was given a free go into the next phase.

Phase IV:

Tommy Nottinbury versus Claudius Brutus, 3:2 – Definetly one of the highlights of the evening! The Beast’s mad charge was held off by the besieger from Yew, although at one point it looked like Claudius would make it to the Final!

Tiolas’ unbelievable luck held and due to an odd number of contestants he was given a free go into the next phase.

Final phase:

Tiolas versus Tommy Nottinbury, 1:2 – The remaining crowd cheered for the covian as the jousting arena crumbled from all the punishment it had to take. Flying bodies and limbs as well as falling horses really tooks their toll on the wooden constrcution! The round was intense and lightning quick as both contenders wanted to finish off their opponent fast to claim the ultimate prize. In the end a black cat crossed the road in front of Tiolas the Lucky and Tommy became the first Champion of the Jousting Masters!

Champion: Tommy Nottinbury
Second place: Tiolas the Lucky
Third place: Claudius Brutus the Beast

Special thanks to:

Veldrin for helping with the equipment, prizes, ideas and organising of the tournament!

Clovis for doing a magnificent job as Percival the announcer and for waking up in the middle of the night to do his job. Smiley

Hrothgar for valuable ideas and a great slot in the Freedom Festival to hold the joust.

Octiovus and Gregor Eason for the authorisations.

Kal ShadowHand for many many crates on a very short notice Smiley

Thanks to everybody who attended!

Good news, participants! Seems we will not be forced to use donated farming tools as I have contacted the Adarastos family in Magincia and managed to secure their 'sponsorship'. This family have long been my friends and have agreed to provide lances for use in this tournament at their own expenses!

I look foward to seeing you all in the Tournament.

[OOC: We will be using UBWS (use best weapon skill) lances. Appropriate permissions have been received Wink Archers are free to take part now.]

Do you consider jousting to be a pansy sport for the nobles where nobody gets hurt? Where thick platemail shields your body from harm?? A sport where only the privileged ones can take part?!

If so, you’re WRONG!

In Cove jousting is exciting, lethal, full of gore and best of all it is available to even the most common man!

Here in the Barony the brave souls willing to take part will only wear minimal armor for protection while using pitchforks, clubs and various other farming tools instead of lances while using well-crafted lances provided by the Adarastos family. Also, the glorious baron Octiovus has agreed to lend mounts from his personal stables for a meager fee. This is an opportunity you just cannot miss! Sign up today.

The winner shall receive a monetary prize as well as the prestige of being the Champion of the Jousting Masters!

Rules:

People using any weapon skill can take part! We will be using UBWS (use best weapon skill) lances.

Contestants will be required to pay fifty gold coins for the rent of a horse. Renting armor is optional and those wishing to will have to pay twenty gold coins. The number of armor pieces supplied is highly limited.

Bringing your own set of items or your own horse is prohibited, you can only use the items issued directly at the tournament.

To win a jousting round you must dismount your opponent using the dismount ability.

To move on in the tournament you must win two rounds against you opponent.

There shall be a hired announcer for the tournament.

There shall be an official bookmaker to take your bets. The payout for a sucessful guess will be double the betted amount.

Jousting will take place in a specialy built arena inside Cove.

Additional notes:

You can color the given set of armor as you see fit. Make a statement of style!

Further improve your prestige among your collegues by bringing your own presenter who shall shout your glory to the heavens before every round!

Those wishing to sign up can leave their names here or contact me via ICQ: 290-595-951
