My dad used to say "Don't try and fix something that isn't broken." Why change what works? The Current Barracks has been the Barracks sence 2004. Yes, it's seen several changes and reformats over the years, but it's always been the Barracks. Why change now?
1. There's more room around the Llama Point plot that absolutely can not be suddenly taken up by another house that we can use for more, larger events than there is in the area of the current barracks.
2. It makes more IC sense for the primary base and fortress of the Covian Army to be situated somewhere where it commands a view of both the primary land (the Altmere Road) and sea (the bay) routes into the land it serves to protect.
3. Changing the current Barracks into something like a Town Hall instead shifts the focus of the region to the Civilian or at least more peaceful aspect of the guild, which is the element we've always wished was stronger but never quite been able to stabilize.
4. The current Barracks is an indefensible, hideous cube. We love it, we have a lot of memories there, but the design is fundamentally broken in every way except that it's open, has a lot of large rooms, and it has everything we - in a strictly utilitarian sense - need.
5. We have more control over a plot that an active member owns. With all due respect to Hoagie, who I'm sure we all agree is an all-'round awesome person, he isn't very active for most of the year. This makes adding co-owners, changing decorations, removing items people randomly decide to lock down in the middle of the parade ground, etc. very difficult. By moving the barracks to a plot I control, we guarantee that we will have full control over it at all times, and be free to make changes to the design, deco, and so on at will, as opposed to whenever Hoagie pops online to make sure we haven't burnt the guild down.
That's why. ;P
